Dolamite, remind me to never play golf with you. You'd crush me! I haven't played at Raven Rock in forever, I usually just play at the Mountain Pub Links Course.

 

I do plan on going to Raven Rock tomorrow though and go to the driving range.

 

Ahhhh I'd say I'm not as good as you think, still have a lot of work to do. Main thing with golf is you have to play. When I was getting to play 2-3 times a week I was putting up some good scores, but last couple of weeks with all the heat and rain have brought me back down to earth.

 

 

And I normally just bounce around all the courses. We play our golf league at Pub Links on Friday evenings, normally I play Raven Rock because it is closest to where I live. I have a buddy who works in P'burg and is a member at Stonecrest so I try to meet him once every week or so after work one evening and play a round up there, def the nicest course we have around here.

 

 

Used to I played a majority of my golf in Virginia. That's where my dad lives so I would usually always go play with him and his buddies, we would travel all over southwest VA playing everywhere from Tazwell to Bristol and everywhere in between. Then when I lived in Richmond I would usually play Gibson Bay. Now that I've been back settled into Pike Co. and now that I am kind of paying my own way now and not mooching rounds off my dad I play around here.

I've had many eagles, only 2 on par 4's (both were chipped in). Never an ace. I hit the ball way too high. I'd have to dunk it to ace one. I've hit the pin several times, never dunked one.

So for those of you that play frequently, did you ever take lessons? Did you start playing at a young age?

 

Never had a lesson, been playing since around the age of 14. I'm 24 now so thats about 10 years. However, I didn't really get that decent until 4-5 years ago. Those first five years I was just a hard swinging hacker, now that I've understood that its all about ball striking and less about swinging as hard as you can I've made a lot of progress in developing my game. I have built on my progress last couple of years and now I am old enough to understand the game a lot better and make changes to my swing when need be. I have slowed my swing down quite a bit and pretty much focus solely on making smooth contact with the ball everytime instead of how hard I hit the ball. It has caused me to have to drop down a club or two from what I used to swing but the results speak for themselves. I used to hit a PW 130-140 yards, now I pull a 9 or 8 to get that kind of distance. The accuracy and ball flight though is 100x better than back then so I don't care in the least. I could probably still get a PW 130 easy if I wanted to I just don't like to swing it that hard. The biggest thing that helped me understand what it was all about was playing with some older guys who play with my dad. They never hit a ball past 180 yards but they are in the fairway every time and rarely shoot below par. Learning how to basically play old man golf instead of look how far I can hit it golf has turned me from a 18 handicapper to a 9 or 10 handicapper in just a couple years.

I bought the Callaway Razr fit, not sure how I feel about it. Stiff shaft which I always buy. Just not in love with the thing. I bought the youngest son the Rocketballs Tour, reg flex. I like it better than mine. I may sell the Razr and buy my little old self the RBZ with the stiff flex shaft.

One of the guys who play's in our golf league at work was saying the same thing. He said he was trying them out at Dicks and said he wanted the Razr but after hitting the RBZ it was just hard to decide. Said he had intended on walking into the store, getting his Razr fit and leaving but after hitting the RBZ he left without anything and has been thinking about it all week. After hitting my RBZ 5W Friday I'm pretty sure he's going to pick up the whole set, Driver, 3W, 5W.

No clue. I also have the Razr Hawk Draw that is new. I don't like it at all. IF you fade/slice, it will help. I bought it hoping for a little draw. I got a duck hook:walk:

I've seen that a lot of people are getting rid of their 3-woods for hybrid clubs, anyone here doing that? I can't say that I really use my 3 wood at all. I usually tee with either the driver or an iron.

Took group lessons at age 28. That would be 28 years ago - how time flies. I wish I had taken up the game much earlier. Never had an individual lesson.

 

I realized early on that I was never going to put food on the table playing golf so I don't spend a lot of money on the game and I play strictly for fun. Used to play a lot more than I do now - health issues and all that.

 

Best round I ever played was probably at Houston Oaks (Paris) 15 years ago or so. Only time I've ever seen the course; doubled 10 and 11 (fairway bunkers both times), and still shot 76.

 

I LOVE having the Golf Channel - can't wait for Thursdays to roll around each week. Bewteen coverage of golf across the pond, PGA, Champions, LPGA and the occasional Web.com (hard to get used to saying that) event; there's a lot of golf for an old retired guy like me to watch.

No big deal. It's very true. I still have the strength to get the clubhead speed that a stiff shaft (no puns intended here papa) serves me well. But to be very honest, I have hit my sons driver with the reg flex and it seems to be not much different and I get similar distance with less effort if that makes sense.

So I noticed a couple of people have posted their clubs so I figured we all could.
