Best score for me at Hickory Sticks is 82 or 83, but I can't play from the tips. I'm old, short and straight.

I have two buddies that I golf with regularly thus far, one more so than the other but we all 3 play together when we play if that makes sense. Well one of my friends the first few times would consistently play like 4-5 balls per shot almost every hole. Then actually use his best ball as his score and consistently "beat me" by like 6-7 strokes. Well he finally realized that was getting old and the last time we played I beat him by about 18 strokes and I didn't even play well. Just wondering if that was the norm and maybe I was the odd ball, it appears not.

No offense to your friend but if he was doing that in front of me I would call the club house and have them take care of that situation. I assume he only does it when people aren't behind him. I know what you mean about people trying to play more than one ball and saying they beat you. We play for money now so none of that stuff happens.

I've never been one to sink buckets of money in new clubs.

 

Early this golf season I went to a yard sale and picked up a set of Mizuno T3 T-Zoid irons, 3-F wedge along with a Mizuno cart bag. Cost me all of 25 bucks.

 

Usually hit Noodles or Srixon AD333s. Don't swing hard enough to use high-compression golf balls.

I can get around the local "ego courses" easily enough. Shot 77 from the forward tees at Laurel Oaks a few weeks ago. Put me on a real course with some length and I'd have problems.

 

I haven't played in the last 2 or 3 weeks. It's not the same game (to me, anyway) playing off hardpan, so I don't do it.

Does Hickory Sticks still have the old guys special on Wednesdays? Something like $20 for 18 and a cart if you're 55? I haven't been this year so I don't know if they still do that.

Yea he cought on eventually and usually when we go there literally isn't a soul on the course but it's funny you mention calling the clubhouse. About 3 weeks ago we were out on the course playing as 3. The very first hole the guys behind us drive as soon as we finish our second shot, fine whatever but I'm not exactly happy about it. We get to the second hole, play it thru but have to wait for people in front of us that are walking, so it's the second hole and it's already jammed up and there's a group in front of the group in front of this. Had never seen this happen but usually we're not playing behind two elderly couples that are playing in front of 3 walkers. Fine whatever let's just try to get to the back nine and hopefully the people in front of us aren't playing after the turn. Well as we are teeing off on the third I see a ranger pull up and start watching us(seriously are you kidding me, I'm not happy about this). Finish the hole, move to the next where he continues to follow so we ask him whats up, he explains that the guys beind up called and complained. We aren't too happy about this seeing as how we're not exactly thrilled about how long we're having to wait either and they're border line hitting balls in our area, one had already nearly hit our cart. We complain, he explains we have like 15 minutes per hole and he is timing us. We explain we can't hit any faster than the people in front of us will allow for and that it's really a pain him being there. He sympathizes and so on. On to the next hole which is a par 3 170 yards. He times us, we get done with 8 minutes to spare he says we're not the problem and he's leaving. The guys behind us continue to hit in our direction. On to the 6'th hole, they hit the ball bounces past me as I'm trying to hit so I promtply go and pick up his ball and throw it across the street. Now things are getting fun, they act lost and confused about where there ball went so I point across the street as we are teeing off at the next hole. Moving along, while chipping on to the green from about 15 yards out another ball land in our area, my friend walks over to it and does his best Happy Gilmore swing and crushes the ball, probably his furthest shot of the day by far. I look back at the two guy hold my cell up to my ear and yell back for them (edited version) Call someone who cares!!!

After that they didn't tee off until we were completely off the green the rest of the day and my friends and I couldn't help but laugh as we watched them spend a good 10 minutes driving around looking for the guys ball. I am EXTREMELY patient on the course but those guys were down right obnoxious, the ranger had warned them and explained that we could only play as fast as the folks in front of us.

 

Oh and FYI all of us were only playing one ball that day so it wasn't like they were getting ticked because we were playing multiple balls or anything like that didn't want anyone to get the wrong impression based off of previous posts.

Nice. :lol: We had a group of 2 behind us today but there wasn't anything we could do. There was at least 6 or 7 groups of 4 ahead counting us. They weren't going anywhere and they understood.

I guess that's a good thing about playing in an area that isn't heavily populated.

We don't really have that problem. We usually go early morning and there isn't a ton of golfers on the course. I hate having people behind me.

 

With my work schedule just recently changing we tend to go monday or tuesday just after noon, it's usually not that busy at all. That day was a Sunday and the only day I've golfed that course on a Sunday, I was not too thrilled about that experience other than it does make for a pretty good story. On a Tuesday my friend and I got stuck behind some league guys when we were making the turn and it SUCKED. Literally took about half an hour on one hole, we were ticked. Took over 2 hours 45 minutes to play the back 9 playing behind them, based off the 15 minutes per hole the ranger told us about it shouldn't take more than 2 hours and 15 minutes, that's if they take 15 minutes on every hole. Needless to say we found out what time the leagues start to make sure that never happens again.

I teed off at 625am on Friday at Fox Run using one of my CincySavers 1/2 off rounds I purchased. I shot 40 on the back and was on about an 81 pace before having to quit after 16 holes due to a scramble starting at 8am. Got 16 holes in 80 minutes! Just booked 139 at Boone links today on golfnow.com for 24.00 a person and taking my little one out there today. He has tryouts tomorrow-Wednesday at Boone and he's never played there.
