Why is Highlands v Cov. Cath. a great rivalry?

Featured Replies

BFritz - I'd encourage you to stop while you still MAY be able to get out. You're just digging yourself deeper & deeper.

Somehow something I said got taken the wrong way and the more I try to fix it, the deeper I get. I'll put it this way- kids left CovCath when they had no real reason to

I simply made a few points, you argued that one was wrong, and then you post that, which was not relevant in any way, shape, or form. You attack me and say that I have no class, when I simply posted facts that were in no way cruel or attacking anyone.

CovCath students- make sure you're right before saying anything, don't attack anyone, but defend CovCath with facts, just as I did.

Thanks oldguy :thumb:

Some kids leave CCH because of the very essence of your posts.

Dixie doesn't have clicks? Or any high school in Kentucky for that matter?

I could see how the econmical "clique" could be a factor on a kid attending CCH. There is a reason why the kids from St.John's parish which is still a feeder school to CCH offically, attend Holy Cross now.

I think its a great rivalry because for years the Birds were the King of the Hill. CovCath under Ray knocked us off for a while. Mueller has returned us to the top. Both schools have proud students and alumni. No one likes getting knocked off the top. They usually have to play one another in the playoffs with all the marbles on the line. Its that simple. If CovCath gets bumped to a different class due to more classifications or multipliers, the rivalry will continue but at no where near its current strength.

BTW, we've now shown the UGLY side of this great rivalry.

You say "the UGLY side." I say "The some times more entertaining side." :D

Look, I am a fan of the Blue colonels, but to compare the social setting at CCH to Dixie is ludicrous. They are apples and oranges. I am not trying to down the blue colonels as much as state the truth. Alot of kids go there, and love it. Yet some don't. I am speaking from personal knowledge as a student, parent, and friend to parents and alumni. This school is not for everybody. That is not an eliteist statement as some might think. What I speak of has nothing to do with money, academics, or athletic ability.

Covington Catholic is not for everyone, that is true. A lot of alumni love the school, while some do not care much for it; however, I do not think that money or social status is the reason. Simply put, CCH is a different environment than many other schools, and not everyone likes it. Different strokes for different folks.

Right if you read the previous posts this post was not about football it was about the other team sports. The comparison made was that Highlands is the best football school in NKY going against the best "sports" school in NKY. The baseball title was an oversight that has already been corrected.

As far as the beat highlands t-shirts goes, I will make this comparison. You will never see a floor rush after a game at Rupp Arena because it is expected that UK wins. I doubt you will see en masse highlands students with beat cov. cath t-shirts for the same reason, it is expected. :D:D:D

Its expected in one sport only-football. I assume thats what you mean.

They are not dominant in the form of winning state championships in team sports. There are multiple other schools in Northern Kentucky that have won more state titles in the recent past than Covinton Catholic. Last time Cov. Cath won a state title in Cross Country was 1994, Golf was the only other state title I could find in 1984. Brossart, St. Henry, Highlands, Notre Dame, etc. have all won state titles in the last 5 years, with a few of those mentioned in multiple sports.

Did I ever mention winning state titles? Did I not say cross-country was not one of CCH's superior sports?

My point was if you had to choose ONE school from NKY who is considered the top dawg in most sports, it is CCH. You're kidding yourself if you don't agree.

They are top 3 in all sports, no other school can claim that. They are top dawg in baseball, track, tennis, swimming, golf, and usually soccer. Throw in the fact they are top 3 in hoops, football, and CC. Do the math, thats 6 out of 9. Wasn't that my point- the top football school vs the top sports school?

That was just my theory as to why despite Highlands owning CCH in football over the last decade, this remains such a great, intense rivalry.

In 2002 I think CCH knocked HHS out of the regional tournament or playoffs in every sport. ;)

I believe they won "region" in everything except basketball? Maybe Cross country too?

It's tough to argue that CCH is not the #1 sports school in NKY; however, Highlands is the #1 football school.

My point was that they have not had many state championships in those sports you mentioned compared to the schools I mentioned. There is no doubt that both schools field very competitve soccer, golf, track, cross country and tennis teams.

Very correct.
