Oldham County leads the all-time series between the two oldest Oldham County schools, 16-15, but South has won eight in a row - the longest winning streak either school has put together against the other.

The last two games have been very competitive; South won, 16-6, in 2017, and 23-17 last year.

South hasn't lost in Crestwood since before Jamie Reed took over as head coach; the Colonels beat South in 2009 at South, 42-7.

Interesting stats and players to watch:

- South Oldham, ranked #7 in class 5A, has been to the 5A semi-finals in two of the past three seasons. The Dragons are one of the five winningest teams in their class over the past four seasons, during which they've won 44 games. The two best seasons in South Oldham history came in 2016 and 2018 - both seasons they finished 12-2. South has lost to the eventual state champs the last two seasons.

- Oldham is bouncing back in a big way under third year coach Mike Fox. In 2+ seasons, the Colonels are 19-8 under Fox (.704) after six consecutive losing seasons before that.

- Both teams are 3-1 on the season. South opened with a 6-0 (OT) loss to #1 (3A) Christian Academy of Louisville on the road, but has ripped off three straight wins since. Oldham began the year with three straight wins before falling on the road last week to 6A #6-ranked Manual, 41-14.

- Players to watch include Juan Tapia of Oldham County. The senior RB is #6 in class 6A, averaging 136 yards rushing per game.

- The Colonels' are #7 in 6A in scoring at 32.5 ppg. They have been particularly good rushing the ball, averaging 220 yards per game, #8 in class 6A. Defensively, the Colonels have flown to the ball; they've forced 7 fumbles - recovering all 7 - the most forced fumbles in class 6A.

- South Oldham is top 10 in both scoring and scoring defense in Class 5A, averaging 34.8 ppg (#9 in 5A) and allowing only 3.2 ppg (#1). South gave up 6 points to CAL and 7 points to Eastern, but hasn't allowed a point in the last 8 quarters.

- South is #2 in class 5A, averaging 2 INT per game.

- The Dragons don't have a top 10 rusher - but they have TWO top 30 rushers. Senior FB Keaton Martin is averaging 81 yards per game rushing (#24) and J. T. Benson is averaging 78 yards per game (#26).

Key matchups: South's 8th-ranked rushing defense (allows 61 yards per game) vs. Oldham's 8th-ranked rushing attack (220 yards/game).

Oldham's scoring offense (#7 ranked, 32.5 ppg) vs. South's #1-ranked scoring defense (3.2 ppg).

The turnover battle. Oldham leads class 6A with 7 recovered fumbles....South is #2 in class 5A with 8 interceptions.

Kicking. Both Khaled Al Asad (Oldham) and Conner Langford (South) are ranked 8th in their respective classes in PATs made and PAT pct. Al Asad already has experience connecting on a game-winner, with his last-minute FG to beat Shelby County, 31-28. Langford is just shy of perfect on PATs, hitting 17 of 18 on the season (94.4%).

Oldham's sophomore QB Sam Young (#20 in 6A at 126 yards passing per game; 68.4% completion percentage, 6 TDs vs. only 1 INT) vs. a ball-hawking, veteran South Oldham secondary - (7 different players have at least one INT).

Live video coverage of the game begins at 7 pm ET on The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN

LAST WEEK:

South Oldham 38, North Oldham 0 - The Dragons blew open a 0-0 game with 28 points in the second period.

Manual 41, Oldham County 14 - The Colonels began a three-game road trip against three straight top 10 teams (Manual, South Oldham, and Fern Creek) with a loss to Manual. The Colonels had nearly 300 yards of offense - but gave up 283 yards to the Crimsons on the ground..

This is going to be a fun one....

I should clarify a statement I made. South hasn't lost in Crestwood to Oldham County since before Jamie Reed took over.

Sorry about any confusion there...
