Beau Buchanan, Bowling Green (6-0, ranked #2 in 5A)

 

Week 5: 12 of 15 for 233 yards and 5 TDs in a 49-7 win over Greenwood

 

Season to date: 112 of 187 for 1,420 yards with 11 TDs and 4 int.

 

Stock: UP

 

Buchanan finally had his first “big stat” game of the season. He was clean, efficient, and connected with five different receivers for TDs.

 

 

Joey Cambron, Daviess County (3-3, unranked in 6A)

 

Week 5: 28 of 44 for 479 yards and 4 TDs with 1 int. in a 55-43 loss to McCracken County.

 

Season to date: 132 of 217 for 1,607 with 15 TDs and 10 ints.

 

Stock:

 

The good news? Those are the numbers we came to expect from Cambron last year. The bad news? The video game numbers ring hollow in Daviess County's second straight loss, dropping them to .500 for the year.

 

 

Gavin Spurrier, South Warren (6-0, ranked #3 in 5A)

 

Week 5: 20 of 30 for 211 yards with 2 TDs and 1 int. in a 46-0 win over Rocky Mountain (CO)

 

Season to date: 71 of 97 for 1,028 yards and 17 TDs with 2 ints.

 

Stock:

 

Spurrier's 66% completion percentage last week actually lowered his percentage for the season (73%). Expect him to pick apart Greenwood this week the same way Buchanan did last Friday.

Braxton Ratliff, Ashland (6-0, ranked #3 in 4A)

 

Week 5: 6 of 14 for 90 yards and a TD ; 7 rushes for 45 yards and a TD in a 34-6 win over Rowan County

 

Season to date: 47 of 88 for 919 yards and 10 TDs with 3 ints. ; 53 rushes for 451 yards and 5 TDs

 

Stock:

 

Running backs Blake Hester and Keontae Pittman shouldered the load for Ashland's offense versus Rowan County, making for a relatively quiet night from Ratliff. He could be looking at some very short outings the next two weeks as the Tomcats face a couple of teams they beat a combined 138-0 last year.

Jaden Stinson, Mayfield (6-0, ranked #2 in 2A)

 

Week 5: 13 of 19 for 243 yards and 2 TDs in a 45-21 win over Corbin

 

Season to date: 73 of 115 for 1,509 yards and 19 TDs with 0 ints.

 

Stock: UP

 

Stinson and his Cardinal teammates put on an impressive display versus Corbin. This was a rare head to head meeting between two watchlist members as Stinson outdueled Corbin QB Chase Estep.

Week 5: 13 of 20 for 111 yards and 2 TDs ; 15 rushes for 49 yards in a 45-21 loss to Mayfield

 

Season to date: 64 of 101 for 1,102 yards with 12 TDs and 3 ints. ; 59 rushes for 351 yards and 5 TDs

 

Stock: DOWN

 

Estep was without his big play WR Christian Gosselin against Mayfield, and he might have to make due without him for the foreseeable future. Estep didn't necessarily have a bad game vs. the Cardinals. But Mayfield's defense brought their A game and held the Redhounds’ QB well in check.

 

 

Cameron Jones, Frederick Douglass (6-0, ranked #3 in 6A)

 

Week 5: 7 of 9 for 141 yards and 2 TDs in a 49-15 win over Paul Laurence Dunbar

 

Season to date: 83 of 106 for 1,587 yards with 19 TDs and 3 ints.

 

Stock :

 

Jones had an easy night versus an overmatched Dunbar squad. He and the Broncos are one step closer to Scott County. Only winless Bryan Station stands between FD and a date with the Cardinals.

Wiley Cain, Pulaski County (4-2, ranked #10 in 5A)

 

Week 5: 23 of 37 for 224 yards and 2 TDs and 1 int. in a 39-22 win over Madison Southern

 

Season to date: 140 of 220 for 1,729 yards with 16 TDs and 5 ints.

 

Stock:

 

Cain was once again in sync with receiver Jake Sloan, hooking up eight times for 132 yards and 2 TDs. Cain, not typically known for his legs, also chipped in 51 yards on the ground.

Running Backs

 

Wandale Robinson, Western Hills (4-1, unranked in 3A)

 

Week 5: 21 carries for 183 yards and 4 TDs ; 4 catches for 94 yards and 2 TDs ; 1 of 2 for 53 yards and a TD ; 10 tackles and an interception in a 55-42 win over Woodford County

 

Season to date: 92 rushes for 996 yards and 13 TDs ; 10 catches for 317 yards and 6 TDs ; 43 tackles and 2 interceptions ; 2 kick return TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

Wandale continues to astound. How's this for a night's work - 330 yards of total offense, 7 TDs, 10 tackles and a pick. He now leads Western Hills in tackles for the season.

Casey McGinness, Covington Catholic (6-0, ranked #1 in 5A)

 

Week 5: 28 rushes for 194 yards and 3 TDs in a 35-14 win over St. Francis de Sales (OH)

 

Season to date: 88 carries for 978 yards and 16 TDs ; 10 catches for 190 yards and a 3 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

McGinness came up huge in CovCath's toughest game to date. According to our good friend @Colonels_Wear_Blue, Casey became Covington Catholic's all time leading rusher versus St. Francis de Sales (OH).

Tre’ Bass, Franklin-Simpson (5-1, ranked #2 in 4A)

 

Week 5: 11 rushes for 201 yards and 4 TDs in a 48-21 win over Glasgow

 

Season to date: 70 carries for 865 yards and 13 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

Bass ran wild in arguably FS's most impressive showing so far this season. The Scotties had been surrendering approximately 100 yards per game on the ground. Bass doubled that by himself.

Jayden Neace, Perry County Central (4-1, unranked in 5A)

 

Week 5: 19 rushes for 277 yards and 4 TDs in a 49-35 loss to Letcher County Central

 

Season to date: 107 carries for 1,368 yards and 21 TDs

 

Stock:

 

The big takeaway here is PCC's loss to LCC. A less than strenuous schedule appeared to clear the way for a possible 10-0 season. Despite Neace's huge game, this loss pushes him further into the background of the Mr. Football picture.

Kent Trey Matthews, Mayfield (6-0, ranked #2 in 2A)

 

Week 5: 26 rushes for 125 yards and 3 TDs in a 45-21 win over Corbin

 

Season to date: 116 rushes for 877 yards and 12 TDs

 

Stock:

 

His 4.8 ypc average might not blow you away, but Matthews ran for some though yards against a very good defense and found the endzone three times.

Anthony Adkins, Larue County (4-2, unranked in 3A)

 

Week 5: 8 rushes for 170 yards and 2 TDs in a 43-7 win over Adair County

 

Season to date: 73 rushes for 870 yards and 11 TDs ; 2 catches for 51 yards and a TD ; 1 kickoff return TD

 

Stock:

 

Adkins will be stuck in watchlist limbo for another couple of weeks. An improved Lincoln County, Elizabethtown, and Campbellsville will provide him the opportunity to boost his stock against some quality teams.

Landan Swartz, Bath County (4-1, unranked in 3A)

 

Week 5: 16 rushes for 204 yards and 4 TDs in a 47-14 win over Pendleton County

 

Season to date: 126 rushes for 975 yards and 15 TDs

 

Stock:

 

For the second straight game, Swartz had a 95+ yard touchdown run. Last year, the Pendleton County game started a streak of eight straight games with over 200 yards rushing for the Bath County running back. That streak ended earlier this season versus Western Hills.

Joe Jackson, Johnson Central (4-1, ranked #1 in 4A)

 

Week 5: 17 rushes for 137 yards and 5 TDs in a 48-7 win over Boyd County

 

Season to date: 93 rushes for 684 yards and 11 TDs

 

Stock:

 

JC's powerful running game mowed down the Boyd County Lions. And Jackson was the primary beneficiary of the Golden Eagles’ domination of the line of scrimmage.

 

 

Dalton Cook, Lynn Camp (5-0, ranked #10 in 1A)

 

Week 5: 10 carries for 169 yards and 5 TDs in a 56-0 win over Jellico (TN)

 

Season to date: 52 carries for 1,107 yards and 17 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

His chances of getting even a sniff of the Mr. Football award are pretty slim. But he deserves some attention for the type of year he's having. Not to mention, Lynn Camp is off to its best start in… maybe ever? Cook is averaging an absurd 21 yards per carry.

Wide Receivers

 

Demontae Crumes, Butler (3-2, ranked #6 in 6A)

 

Week 5: 3 catches for 96 yards and a TD in a 30-12 loss to Male

 

Season to date: 18 catches for 514 yards and 7 TDs

 

Stock:

 

The Bears may have dropped a highly anticipated game against 6A #1 Male, but Crumes made his presence felt. Not even Male's superb defense could stop Crumes from getting loose for one of his weekly, long distance TD receptions.

 

 

Marquel Tinsley, Daviess County (3-3, unranked in 6A)

 

Week 5: 8 catches for 227 yards and 2 TDs in a 55-43 loss to McCracken County

 

Season to date: 40 catches for 686 yards and 8 TDs

 

Stock:

 

Tinsley was a beast versus McCracken, but his monster game was in vain as the Panthers lost a shootout.

 

 

 

 

 

Linemen

 

Bryan Hudson, Scott County (5-1, ranked #2 in 6A)

 

Week 5: Scott County rushed for 340 yards and 6 TDs in a 57-18 win over Bryan Station

 

Stock:

 

Following back to back encounters with the GCL South, the Cardinals eased into district play against a winless Station. Aside from his usual dominance as a blocker, Hudson again proved to be formidable on defense, posting 6 tackles (3 TFL).

 

 

Jacob Lacey, South Warren (6-0, ranked #3 in 5A)

 

Week 5: 6 tackles (2 TFL) in a 46-0 win over Rocky Mountain (CO)

 

Season to date: 25 tackles (8 TFL) ; 2 sacks ; 1 forced fumble

 

Stock:

 

The Spartans’ starting defensive unit is giving up less than 100 yards of offense over their last five games and haven't been scored on since Week 0.

Tanner Bowles, Glasgow (5-1, ranked #6 in 2A)

 

Week 5: The Scotties posted 280 yards on 53 rushes in a 48-21 loss to Franklin-Simpson

 

Stock:

 

Glasgow's unbeaten record was dashed by a show of brute force from Franklin-Simpson. Bowles and the running game turned in an admirable performance against one of 4A’s top run defenses.

 

 

 

 

 

Athletes

 

Milton Wright, Christian Academy of Louisville (5-0, ranked #3 in 2A)

 

Week 5: CAL had a bye week. They play Meade County this week.

 

 

Logan Castleman, Beechwood (3-2, ranked #1 in 1A)

 

Week 5: 6 carries for 112 yards and a TD ; interception return TD

 

Season to date: 54 carries for 410 yards and 5 TDs

 

Stock:

 

After two straight weeks of running head first into the run defenses of Corbin and CovCath for a combined 20 carries for just 27 yards, Castleman found plenty of breathing room in an abbreviated outing against Covington Holy Cross. A big stock boosting opportunity awaits vs. Simon Kenton.

 

 

Drew Sawyers, Southwestern (5-0, ranked #5 in 5A)

 

Week 5: Southwestern had a bye week. The Warriors face Central Hardin this Friday.
