Winter Weather Threat Mode

The possibility is growing for a possible round of accumulating snow Sunday night. There is still some uncertainty about the storm strength and track, but southern and potentially central KY are most at risk. The latest data is trending towards a stronger storm that would be capable of snow. Keep checking back for updates about this possible situation.

Here is the latest NAM simulated Radar for Sunday evening into Monday morning.

I'm going into a Winter Weather Threat Mode due to some in Kentucky could receive some significant snowfall accumulations tonight into Monday morning. The very latest NAM model information just released during the past hour is showing parts of western, southern and eastern Kentucky getting hammered with snow. Western Kentucky is looking at anywhere from 7-13 inches of snow. Far western Kentucky could receive from 1-5 inches. Southern to southeastern Kentucky is looking at 5-10 inches. The range is so wide because I'm trying to cover most of the areas mentioned. There looks to be a short cutoff of the snow accumulations on the north side of the storm track.

Here are some forecast accumulation totals for some cities.

Paducah 7-9"

Hopkinsville 7-9"

Owensboro 3-6"

Bowling Green 2-4"

Elizabethtown 2-4"

Somerset 2-5"

Jackson 4-6"

Pikeville 5-7"

There are some areas that could receive anywhere from 10-13" in western Kentucky. This area is centered between Hopkinsville and Owensboro. Also, there is another area in southeastern Kentucky could get from 6-10". This area is centered between Somerset, Jackson, and Pikeville.

The following map shows the possible snowfall accumulations.

The NAM simulated radar is from 5 pm to 8 am EDT

Depending on the track of this storm the totals could change. Updates later today.

The mid-morning NAM run has the storm tracking a little further north than earlier. It also is showing some strengthing. It really depends on how fast the change over from rain to snow will happen as to how much snow some will see. I'll update later today.
