No major surprises in the 10th last week. Number 1 took care of business, number 2 fell to one of the state's powerhouses by a mere bucket; and just about everyone stayed where they were at the start of the week.

1. Clark County (19-3, 8-1 region). Don't look now, but after starting the season trying to find themselves, the Cardinals have won nine straight and are 16-1 since falling at home to Campbell County way back on December 12. The Cards forced 20 turnovers and blocked 9 shots to begin the week with a 36-point thrashing of Tates Creek; with Ryan Cooper, Will Philpot and Jordan Graham hitting double digits. Montgomery County endured a similar fate, falling 67-31 to the Cards and only managing 9 points in the second half and making a total of 10 baskets in the entire game. Frankfort gave the Cardinals a much tougher gme the next day, eventually falling 67-57. Clark is at Bourbon County, then hosts South Laurel and Mason County this week.

2. Campbell County (18-4, 8-0 region). Coach Russell's Camels dropped a 55-53 thriller to 9th-region and state power Covington Catholic to drop 2 straight for the first time all season before trouncing St. Henry 83-55 on Friday. Joel Day had 17, Reid Jolly 16 and Tanner Clos 10 in the CovCath game (won on a last-second basket). The same trio were in double digits again versus the Crusaders - Jolly and Clos with 20, while Day chipped in 14. The Camels are on the road for a pair of games this week at Harrison County and Highlands.

3. Scott (16-5, 5-3 region). The Eagles are on a modest 4-game winning streak of their own after last week's trio of wins. First was a 78-39 doubling up of Calvary Christian (on the heels of a Sunday game at NKU), followed by a 27-point pasting of Bishop Brossart (cementing their hold on the 37th's 2-seed). Scott's Jaycob Pouncy was nursing an ankle and Chad Ohmer only tallied 8, but Meister, Perrin, Hunter and Joyce all reached double figures. Scott then headed to southeastern Kentucky for a matchup with Harlan County the next day, prevailing by a point 72-71. Scott will be tested this week with games against the papists of Covington Catholic and Newport Catholic.

4. Pendleton County (16-5, 9-2 region). The Wildcats also boast a winning streak, this one a handful after taking all three games last week. Mr. Everything Dontaie Allen had 30 in a 95-63 win over St. Henry; then poured in 34 to help pull away from Newport Catholic 79-64. Finally, Allen became the school's all-time 3-point shooter (and he's a junior) while tallying 32 in a hard-fought 72-62 win over Harrison County in Cynthiana; with Grant Walsh adding 17. Calvary Christian, Bishop Brossart and Bracken County fill this week's slate.

5. Paris (14-6, 8-4 region). The Greyhounds got back on the winning track last week, beating the "new-look" Mason County Royals 56-49 at home behind 23 from Eric Johnson and 15 from Taleigh Adams. Saturday saw Paris dispatch a pair of opponents (Model, 72-34; Nicholas County 74-47) to win the Bluegrass Conference Championship. Dunbar, then 40th-district foes Montgomery County and Bourbon County this week.

6. Robertson County (16-7, 10-1 region). The Black Devils played five games last week, including their first-ever All-A state appearance. That game was the squad's only loss, as they ran into Jackson Harlan and Seth Stockton of Clinton County, falling 69-51. The rest of the week was easy pickins' for the Devils as they rolled over Menifee County, Silver Grove, Walden (Alex Schalch with 24/10; Justin Becker with 17/10) and Beth Haven. Robertson faces Menifee again then Nicholas County in back-to-back games this weekend.

7. Mason County (11-9, 3-4 region). It's been a soap opera in Maysville as Caleb Boyd and Jayden Steward were reportedly dismissed from the squad while Jaylen Lofton is still nursing a case of the flu. They still have a tenuous hold on the seventh spot after close defeats at the hands of Paris (56-49) and Boyd County (64-62 in overtime). Season-leading scorer Leevi Dunaway led the Royals with 21 against Paris, then had 20 against Boyd, with Jeremiah Jones and Malcolm Devine adding eleven apiece. Montgomery, Bracken and Clark up this week.

8. Montgomery County (9-10, 3-5 region). While the Indians got thumped in both their games last week, consider the competition. Madison Central and Clark County both doubled the score on MoCo - 85-41 and 67-31. No stats to report for the Indians this week. Three home games (Bracken, Paris and Fleming) and one road contest (Mason) this week.

9. Bishop Brossart (11-9, 4-3 region). Coach Code's Mustangs ran over Dayton and Harrison County before being reined in by Scott last week. J.D. Schumacher and Bryce Donnelly led the scoring parade for Brossart against Harrison County with 17 and 16 with all ten players who got in the game making the stat sheet. Per Mustang's game summary, Bryan Duffy led the squad with 9 points in the 23-point loss to Scott. Mustangs will be road warriors this week - at Augusta, Pendleton and NewCath.

10. Bourbon County (9-11, 5-6 region). The Colonels easily handled Nicholas County (78-53) and Bracken County (86-67, Titus Ransom with 25) at home before dropping a heartbreaker on the road at Southwestern (67-65). Claark County, Frederick Douglass, Franklin County and Paris are on this week's schedule.

11. Harrison County (7-11, 3-5 region). The Thorobreds started out well, manhandling Bracken County 71-42. The rest of the week wasn't so kind with the aforementioned 56-47 and 72-62 losses to Brossart and Pendleton. Quenton Turley tallied 13 for the 'breds against Brossart; while Spencer Free poured in 23 against Pendleton. Campbell County (yikes), Madison Central (yikes) and Fleming County this week.

12. Nicholas County (8-10, 4-8 region). The Bluejackets went 3-2 last week. losing to Bourbon County and Paris, while handling Williamstown, Augusta (Spencer Morris led 4 Jackets in double figures with 17) and Berea. Berea, Sayre and Robertson County this time around.

13. Augusta (8-11, 4-8 region). The Panthers started the week with a narrow 4-point win over St. Patrick with sophs Preston Philpot and Austin Eichelberger leading the way, then fell to Nicholas County 61-56. Stephen Cordle and Thomas Mains each had 14 for the Panthers. Brossart, Ripley (OH) and Owen County this week.

14. St. Patrick (9-13, 2-6 region). Isaiah Garrison and Ben Swolsky tallied 28 and 17 in the loss at Augusta, but followed up with a convincing win over Riverside Christian and a close 74-70 decision over Jackson City. The Saints look to keep things going against Dayton, Anderson County and Calvary Christian.

15. Calvary Christian (13-9, 2-7 region). After being thumped by Scott, the Cougars bounced back with wins over Williamstown, Covington Latin and Portland Christian. Pendleton, Bellevue, Dayton and St. Patrick this week.

16. Bracken County (3-16, 0-10 region). Polar Bears fell by double digits thrice last week, with Trey Deaton scoring 26 against Bourbon County. Montgomery, Mason and Pendleton comprise this week's slate of games.

17. Silver Grove (2-15, 0-5 region). No School for the Creative Performing Arts on last week's schedule as the Trains lost their three contests. However, SCPA is back on this week's schedule along with Heritage Academy.

Player of the Week: Let's see. Hmmm. I wonder?

Dontaie Allen - 96 points in 3 wins and 171 triples in his career. I hope and pray that Wildcatpride is okay with this decision.

My guess - a 24+ point win for the Cardinals. Probably not a compelling basketball game to watch.
