10) 2A Walton-Verona (3-2) – No action this past week. The Bearcats will return for 2A district play this Friday against Trimble County (5-1).

GAME OF THE WEEK:

5A Covington Catholic (6-0) vs. Indianapolis Bishop Chatard (3-4)

Covington Catholic seems to be firing on all cylinders, and despite Bishop Chatard’s 3-4 record coming into the game, the two teams had very similar performances against their one common opponent, St. Francis DeSales out of Columbus, OH. Chatard beat DeSales (4-2) back on Sept. 15th by a score of 42-7, and Covington Catholic beat DeSales the following week by a score of 35-7. Should make for a big game in Park Hills.

TRENDING UP:

1A Ludlow (6-0) – The Panthers continued their undefeated streak on Friday by beating 1A Bishop Brossart (4-2) by a score of 54-27. Ludlow plays 1A Dayton (1-5) this week in their first district matchup.

5A Dixie Heights (3-4) – The Colonels have begun putting their 0-4 start behind them, and beat 6A Cooper (0-6) on Friday 36-20. Dixie Heights plays 5A Highlands (2-4) this week in their first district matchup.

TRENDING DOWN:

1A Bracken County (5-2) – The Polar Bears lost 34-14 to 1A Paris (5-1), starting themselves off 0-1 in their district. Bracken County faces 1A Bishop Brossart (4-2) in their second district matchup.

6A Simon Kenton (7-0) – In a rarified case of “trending down despite winning”, the Pioneers dropped a spot in the power rankings because of their surprisingly unimpressive 22-14 win over 1A Beechwood (4-2). Simon Kenton plays 6A Boone County (1-5) in their first district game this Friday.

2) 6A Ryle (4-2) – Ryle hosted Indianapolis, IN-6A Cathedral High School (3-4) on Friday. The Fighting Irish came in favored, and left with a 23-17 win over the Raiders. Ryle had a good showing in the ESPN-televised game, despite the loss, and actually had more overall offensive yardage than Cathedral: 345 to 277. QB Easton Pilyer passed for 167yds and 2 TDs, while RB Jake Chisholm was held to 94yds rushing. It was only the second

Smith has a high motor. Really like his game.

I don't understand why everyone gets on Simon Kenton's case regardless what they do.. Seems people can't wait to jump on the 1st little thing they do that can be construed as negative..

Even in this piece, they're conceived as trending down after beating the 4th best team in NKy.. Plus, it talked about surprisingly struggling against the Tigers..

Hey, if Beechwood truly is the #4 team in NKy, then why would it be surprising if that game was close? CalPreps has the Beechies at #18 in the entire state, regardless of class, so, if anything, SK should be trending up or at the very least, staying the same.

If you're looking at the comparative scores between Cov Cath against the 2, then CC is clearly the best team in NKy.. I don't think there was much question to begin with.. Or, if you're downgrading them because they aren't in Trinity's caliber, then join the rest of the state, who aren't either..

Some of it is the long time bias on here created by a couple different posters who support SK.

Even if Beechwood is #4 in this poll, # 1 in 1A and # 18 in CalPreps, a good (supposedly state title contender) 6A team should not have struggled to beat the tigers.

Deserved or not, SK probably won't ever catch a break on here. That's the way it will be as long as some of their fans post outlandish predictions and fail to recognize facts present by other posters.

The reason SK gets so much scrutiny is due in large part (IMO anyway) to how SK fans - unencumbered by facts - continue to play SK up as a viable state title contender. Buffet would call it irrational exuberance.

SK is not a state title contender this year.

Regardless - with playoffs approaching class-level rankings become more relevant.

Wake up people! Beechwood can beat any 6A team in the state outside of the top four. These repeated posts that assume just because a school is 6A it should beat any and every 1A team are ill Informed. In fact, I think Beechwood would be favored to beat any team in 6A outside of the top seven or eight.

Relax. I think you're reading my post wrong. It's more of a shot at SK than it is a knock on Beechwood.

IF the 6A team is a true state title contender, then no, they should never lose to a 1A school, regardless of how good that school is.

Beechwood is very good and should have beaten SK. SK is not a state title contender.
