The KHSAA sets a minimum requirement on schools to enforce that each student athlete pass a certain percentage of their classes. Weekly grade checks are done by school administration. Part of this could be academic or maybe there were some mistakes when filing the paperwork. There are only certain stipulations the KHSAA requires. There are so many mistakes that could have been made in this case. As for people getting jobs at Toyota trust me it happens. Don't want to say certain names on here but it is a fact. Especially in the mid to late 90's when coaching changes were made and players were drawn from the area the coach previously coached.

Many of Williamsburg's players will contribute and will be an important part of their success. Barton seemed to be the teams most improved player and leading scorer this summer. Payne, Jones, Lowrie, and Smoak all have experience from last season. Wburg will have to develop a bench to be successful. Does anyone know about the hoffman kid. Is he playing this year? The 50th district is more even this year than in the past. If my memory serves me right those teams with cunningham also had a guy named teague who was the teams leading scorer many nights and always the leading rebounder. Those guys were the building blocks of what is being continued now. Good luck Jackets. I look for a succesful season with everyone working together and doing their best.

Whitley should win this game every year. No different this year.

I would love to see powers come out and get a good test against the Jags. Lowrie will do a great job if that is the rought they go. Very impressive performance against Jellico for powers and the Jackets. I really hate to see kids put in so much hard work and then not get to perform on the stage they have been waiting for, especially seniors. Maybe lowrie can lead the jackets to victory. Congrats to Redhounds. Great season here in the 13th Region. After losing what they did last year it is incredible they were able to do it again. Nice job by all. North Laurel didn't play well at all. Maybe they were just happy to beat South and get to the championship game. You never know how some teams will react in a situation like last night. The pre game introductions were awesome. Arena did a nice job. Tell me anywhere else that could hold I am guessing 5,000 people last night that comfortably. No parking issues, no seating issues. Great tournament.

Both teams played very hard. It was a great high school basketball game. Congrats to both sides (coaches, players) for a hard battle. I will give credit to the officals for one thing. For the most part the last 15 - 20 seconds of regulation and all overtimes they were going to let the kids decide who wins. Unless something was a must call they let a lot of contact go both ways. That was pretty even both ways. There were some questionable calls but there always is and always will be. I like to see the end of games be decided by the players and I feel for the most part this is what happened.

I was at the game and not for either team. Corbin playing this game at home was a big advantage. Any time you play at home it would be. Nothing new about that. Whatever the reason shooting that many more free throws than your opponent is strange. Especially considering the type of basketball corbin plays. I wouldn't exactly call Corbin a small school either. Definelty smaller than South but prob upper middle of the pack in the region as far as size. These two teams may get a chance to square off again. Boths teams played hard and showed lots of toughness and courage.

I just wish there was some consitency in the alignment. Some areas the alignments are based upon geography. Some are based on two teams not wanting to be in the same district. If you are in the same city as another high school you should be in their district. That is if you are going to base your decision on geography. I know it is hard to do in some areas because some areas have more concentrated number of teams than others. Someone earlier said you can't take into consideration the size of schools and how good they are. I disagree. That shouldn't be the main point but for the good of the region tournament why would you want 3 or 4 of the best teams in the region to be in the same district.

If it is about geography then why are North and South not in the same district?

Here is my prediction. Taking into consideration of trying to have equal teams in each district. There doesn't need to be a situation where the district championship game is also the region championship game every year. That is what the 13th has had for a while now. Here is what I think taking into consideration sizes of school having close to eqaul number of each in the districts and also location. 49th - North, Jackson Co., South, OBI, Clay Co. 50th - Wburg, Whitley, Corbin, Lynn Camp 51st - Bville, Knox, Harlan, Harlan Co 52nd - Mboro, Bell, Pineville, Red Bird

No way this was an upset. Lynn Camp has a better basketball program than before but this Lynn Camp team was not expected to beat Knox Central on its home floor. Sorry to say this was no upset. I will have to disagree with one thing Les. Miller is not one of the best players in the state. Maybe a couple years ago many thought he would be. He is a very good player but not one of the state's best.

All of this tradition everyone is referring to is controlled by a very small number of schools. There are cinderlla runs and great stories out there and there are teams with great tradition doing it the clean way. What everyone doesn't see or hear about are all the bad situations out there where very tiny schools are in districts and regions that are swamped with big schools and they will never have a chance to go to the state tourny. Do you people know what it is like being around kids year in and year out and they know they have no chance of competing in post season. It just isn't right that the coaches and players out there that try to do things the right way (Practice hard, play hard, run a clean program with no recruiting) are getting punished by having to play schools 10 times their size and schools that recruit and are basically running college programs. You people can call it whatever you want (tradition) but it is an injustice to the people doing things the right way.

I think everyone should quit kidding themselves. High School sports is not for the KHSAA to be a dictator and not consider what is best for the kids and the school systems. It is not about money. It should be about the kids and making it the most competitve and enjoyable environment possible. The fact is that schools are growing, consolidating and the more this happens the further the gap grows between small schools and big ones. The average small school can't compete with big schools. There are exceptions but 90 percent of the time this is true. There are years of history to prove it. The fact that Kentucky's Sweet Sixteen is so much better than every other state's is largley because of the fans in this state. Look at all the important sports in the state. College or High school. Kentucky people are extremely passoniate about sports. The football program at UK is average and they pack the stadium every saturday. The basketball program even on down years always sells out rupp. It is not the type of Tournament the KHSAA is running that makes it so great it is the fans.. I think it is extremely important to think about that. Kentucky goes to 4 classes in basketball. Get rid of the All A and make it 4 classes. Top 4 teams from each class go to rupp and they play their final four there. 4 state champions. What is the difference in football in basketball? The football players deserve a class system but the basketball players dont? Doesn't make sense.

Not sure about that. I think Watkins and Gilbert would both be in Corbins top 6 or 7.

I have seen both teams play this year and I think Corbin is playing better. South has the edge with the domination of St. John but Corbin will take it to him and he will be in foul trouble early. I expect Corbin to win by 8-10 points.

Lynn Camp looked much better in this game. Not sure about Middlesboro. They didn't look sharp second half. Mboro is a good team and will rebound from this loss quickly. Might be a rematch in the All "A" finals.

All of these issues can be fixed. The arena needs a couple of things. First thing is to solve the seating. They need the movable stadium seats like rupp has. The seats that are on the floor that connect the perminent seats to basically right behind the bench. This would put a lot of people on the floor much closer to the game. They had cushioned seats on the floor but that is not going to be good enough for the region. It would be a shame to let this facility go unused for the region. I agree that Harlan Co. deserves the chance to host it some but the arena does as well. I hope the school administrators do the right thing and figure out what is best for the kids and the communities.

Don't be suprised if there is a change in the current regional site selection process. The whole system is not working. It currently rotates between districts and what schools in those districts are able to hold it. Knox Central host it every time for their district because the rest of the teams dont have big enough gyms. In some districts 3 out of 4 teams can host. That is not fare and needs to be addressed. The best and only fair procedure is to rotate the regional tournament throughout the 17 member schools. If it is a smaller schools turn to host and their gym can't accomodate they can contract the arena or another member school to host the tournament. To me that is the only fair policy that includes everyone and it leaves the decision up to the schools.

The KABC is trying to update there basketball records and is trying to get all 13th region champs, runners up, and head coach's name from each team. Anyone have any info? Whitley should be a very good team this year. Footloose and distraction free they will make some noise this year. It is hard to say how they will fair against Corbin and South but I would think they will certainly have a great shot at getting out of the district this year. If they are going to do it this would be the year. I think Chris Baker, Jason Faulkner, Cory Sears, and the new addition Randy Love are doing a great job with this program. The administration should be very proud of this staff as they seem to be turning things in the right direction and have one of the best young coaching staffs in the area. Everyone wishes the Colonels good luck and would love to see someone step up and compete with Corbin and South for the district championship.
