I spoke to both a source and a reporter in the Kentucky area and according to both, former Jamestown basketball star Jaysean Paige has been ruled ineligible to play by the KHSAA after transferring from Jamestown to Perry County Central High School in Hazard, Kentucky this summer.

“Mr. Paige has been ruled ineligible to play at this present time but the initial ruling is going to be appealed,” said the source.

I spoke with Chris Ritchie, a reporter for the Hazard Herald in Kentucky and he confirmed speaking to Perry County School Board Chairman John C. Combs, who was informed of Paige’s ineligibility late last week.

An appeal is scheduled for November 1 and there’s definitely a chance the initial ruling could be overturned.

Paige tore up the local circuit as a junior at Jamestown last year, averaging over 26 points and eight rebounds per game as the Red Raiders finally defeated Niagara Falls to win the Class-AA Section VI crown, defeat Rochester in the Regionals and advance all the way to the New York State finals in Glenn Falls.

For his efforts, Paige was the overwhelming choice for both the Buffalo News WNY Player of the Year, as well as the Buffalo Sports Daily Player of the Year.

I was just logging on to post this...the appeal will be something to keep an eye on.

I just don't understand how some kids are ruled eligible and others aren't. Are these cases open record cases? It doesn't make sense to me. Either make a rule that says all transfers must sit out a year or everyone can transfer. It's getting beyond ridiculous.

Unfortunately, it's all about who you know and in some cases, who you don't know.

This is the kids I was talking about in another thread that I wanted to go watch play this year. Appeal hearing is set for Nov. 1st. Hope we hear something positive after this date.

A college coach told me this kid would be the best player in the area, hands down.

Why is he ineligible?

This one has me a little puzzled. The kid moved to Kentucky from out of state so it hard to see anything there that would make him ineligible. Is there something in the move that is unusual? Did his whole family move to Kentucky? What is the specific reason he is ineligible?

Just saying, if he had went to Scott County or Trinity, he would have been eligible with NO questions asked..... Period....

I know that the Hicks kid went to 3 different high schools within a 1 year time frame and he was rule ineligible last year, but he is back practicing and playing this year, has anyone cared to check in on who is paying for that bill at Trinity? Guess NOT..... Or how about the kids would have transferred to Scott County, who so just happens their parents get a job at Toyota, has anyone from KHSAA checked in on those? Guess NOT....

Daryl Hicks sat out all of last year after transferring to Trinity. He served his time and is good to go now. Mentioning him is a waste of time. The issues he had with the three different schools are old news. When Shelby County and Collins came into existence he chose to go to Trinity and sit out a year and did so. He began his second year at Trinity when school started. He's legal. Period.

 

No one has transferred to Scott County recently so let that rest also. Last I saw a kid just transferred from Scott County.

 

I'd like to know how Christen Cunningham, David Kapinga and the Fox kid are elgible and Page isn't. That is what I want to know. This is what is happening right now. There are some other transfers I am sure of also. Didn't a kid just leave Madison Central for Jeffersontown?

Do you have a clue to what you are talking about? Hicks went to Trinity and he was ruled inelibible and sat out an entire year. Cunningham transferred out of Scott Co. I haven't heard of any transfers go to Scott Co. the last three years. At least no high school transfers that I know of. The transfers three years ago were all ruled ineligible then after the appeal process they were finally ruled eligible by the Board of Controls (the ineligible rulings were directly from Devrees herself, which was totally biased in almost every decision she made while at KHSAA). Also, please tell us who got jobs at Toyota? I would love to know, since you know so much or at least think you do.

 

I wouldn't mind having a job at toyota. Maybe I should take my kids there and get a job.
