Williamsburg 2010/2011

Featured Replies

What does Williamsburg need to do to improve in 2010/2011? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

I think Coach Robinson and the Jackets will be okay. They lost several seniors, but they have some talent returning. I think Jones, Payne, Smoak, Lowrie and Barton will all have good seasons this year. Who knows they might even do a repeat and win the 13th Regional All A again!

I don't see them beating Barbourville or Harlan in the All "A" Classic.

Not too many people thought they would this year either, but they found a way.

Barbourville and Harlan were both very young this past season. Williamsburg loses a lot more.

I look for Harlan to have a really good season and Barbourville well they have Dinky what more can you say.

I agree with Commander 25 its a very tough 50th district. WIlliamsburg is always up and down but if theres ever going to be a year that Williamsburg has a chance to win 2 or even 3 district games then this is the year to do it. They have one of the best players in the region the Jones kid and if he can rally his teammates around him then I look for Williamsburg to finally beat South and maybe Corbin, but if its going to be a one man show like a couple years ago with Cunningham then were gonna see a very talented Wburg team not reach its full potential.

Many of Williamsburg's players will contribute and will be an important part of their success. Barton seemed to be the teams most improved player and leading scorer this summer. Payne, Jones, Lowrie, and Smoak all have experience from last season. Wburg will have to develop a bench to be successful. Does anyone know about the hoffman kid. Is he playing this year? The 50th district is more even this year than in the past. If my memory serves me right those teams with cunningham also had a guy named teague who was the teams leading scorer many nights and always the leading rebounder. Those guys were the building blocks of what is being continued now. Good luck Jackets. I look for a succesful season with everyone working together and doing their best.

Hoffman is playing this year. I look for W'burg to be very successufl this year.

I watched Willaimsburg play Knox Central the other day at The arena in Corbin and they didn't look good at all. It may of just been nerves or first game jitters, but they have some serious problems they need to fix. Lowrie did not play well on defense and Jones didn't play well on offense. I thought Smoak played a good game overall as well did Barton.

The score was 35-35. Does that mean KC didn't look good at all also?

Williamsburg played Middlesboro in the Pan-O-Rama last night and looked good. Middlesboro couldn't keep up. Jones and Payne still trying to work out the football in them, but in a couple of a weeks Williamsburg should all be in sync and be tough to beat. People have been playing Williamsburg down this year, but I believe once the season gets underway, people will be singing a different tune.

You said M'Boro couldn't keep up. What does this mean? M'Boro not any good or W'Burg just quicker than normal? How was W'Burg's guard play and how did Smok look?

Guard play looked good, this team has the talent to do well depending on whether they can hold it together without blowups, distractions and jealousy as in years past. Middleboro was not great but williamsburg went ahead and put them away early. Kevin Hoffman was a true point guard driving and distributing the basketball (great addition). Barton scored 30 plus points in 3 quarters looks much quicker and stronger. Smoak did a good job getting position and rebounding (works Hard). Jones has the potential to put up big numbers if he plays calm and his emotions don't get the best of him. Lowrey and Payne are solid players who just need to be consistent in their play. Defense seems more aggressive, hustling and diving for loose balls. This team has good potential but we will see!!
