Hounds were up by 14, until South mounts a comeback. Way to hold on Hounds!

Corbin barely escaped. At one point, it looked like Corbin would win by 30.

The Redhounds actually led 36-18 in the second half. The Blake Sanders kid from South Laurel can play. I look for these two teams to meet in the region finals...at The Arena.

Yep, I agree. Corbin is the favorite until someone beats in the region and it might not happen. I believe South will get better with players such as Sanders, Josh Karr and the other kid that comes off the bench getting more playing time.

 

I thought Isaac Wilson's handling of the pressure late in the game was key.

The South Laurel bench played much more aggressive defensively and got them back in the game.

 

Corbin seemed to go in with a very good defensive game plan, but South found a hole in their defense in the second half and really exploited it. South's press also caused Corbin to get out of their offense in the second half, encouraging the Hounds to take some bad shots and turn the ball over too often. A couple of good adjustments by the South staff that changed the momentum of the game.

 

South Laurel took some very questionable shots in my opinion during the last 3-4 minutes of the game. They were not patient enough to get St. John the ball and I feel like they probably would have won if he could have taken more shots down the stretch. I agree about the kids off the bench, Sanders especially needs more minutes.

South should have won this game after battling back the way they did. I agree that they should have worked harder late in the game to get St. John the ball.

 

I think tonight's game showed just how important Isaac Wilson is to the Redhounds - even more so than Madison Johnson at times. South worked hard to keep the ball out of Wilson's hands, face guarding him the entire second half. That was the key to the come back.

 

I think South will end up being the better team. I think they showed last night that they have more talent from top to bottom, and can play more kids than Corbin. The guards that come off the bench for South all have a high motor, and bring a lot of energy.

 

I look to see these two teams in the region finals once again. I can't wait!

IMO, Corbin is 15 points better than South at this point...but I don't see them beating Corbin at any point this year now since the next 2 games are at Corbin (if both teams reach the district finals)...Then the 3rd one would be at the Arena.

When Travis Smith gets back to form, he will take a lot of the pressure off of Wilson and will make teams pay when they employ this strategy in my opinion. I'm not sure why Stewart played little or none last night for Corbin, but they can easily go 8 deep, which is as many as they would normally play come tourney time.

He has been in the line up since the start of the preseason scrimmages. IMO, Corbin allowed South back in the game due to not putting the ball in Wilson's hands during the 3rd qtr. and seemed to be determined to keep it out of Wilsons hands for a long period of time. Corbin turned it over repeatedly during that late 3rd- early 4th qtr meltdown. I dont believe Stewart or Jones got in at all. It appears that 4 or 5 players are competing for 1 or 2 positions therefore minutes are going to be very limited to those 4 or 5 players. :confused:

Aside from Matt St John (obviously), I dont think any of South's players would make it into Corbin's top 6 or 7 spots.

Stewart got in for about 15 seconds then got jerked out...and I agree Wilson can make a difference between a win and a loss as you seen last night.
