I believe it may have been first thrown by Steve Hamiton, who played for the Yankees and then was the Head Baseball Coach and later Athletic Director at Morehead State University. If I recall correctly there was a question in the original Trival Persuit game refering to it, but it was called something like the "Folly Floater"

Are high school Seniors allowed to play at the JV level. Just curious

The class of 2011, just may be one of the best baseball classes that Northern Kentucky has seen in many years. I can't wait to see how good these young men are when they are seniors. Bertke, has pitched, played third or short at all three levels. He has several complete games pitching, and pitched 6 1/3 and got the win in the varsity game against Bryan Station.

What game are you talking about, and who was playing short that had so many errors.

I have not seen anywhere where it says that Bertke will be a dominant force for Beechwood. The article in the paper quoted coach Myerhoff saying that he was just one of several young pitchers that gained some valuable Varsity experience last year, and that experience will make them that much better this year. Here is the quote from the paper. Elliott will lead a young staff Myerhoff expects to perform very well with a year's experience under its belt. "Our younger pitchers are all a year older and they should be that much better because of it," Myerhoff said. "Jake Smith and Nathan Snyder are both juniors and they pitched a lot for us last year as sophomores. Josh Bertke pitched a lot for us as an eighth-grader. He should do very well as a freshman this year with that experience. They've grown up that extra year, and they should help us a lot on the mound."

Are there any other NKY middle schools that have a baseball program. I thought Gray Middle in Boone County used to.

As I sit and read all of these comments, I can’t help to think that most of us have lost our focus as to what all of these programs should be about at the end of the day. Yes some programs have the tendency to attract a better caliber of player than the others, but the bottom line is that all of the programs promote the game of baseball well, and all have many fine young men playing the game we love. I cannot speak much about the other programs but I am familiar with the Bluegrass Baseball Club. From last years Bluegrass Chiefs Roster, I can think of 10 young men but I believe there were 14 total that are going on to get their college education while having the privilege of playing college baseball, I know coach Sanders is proud of the number of former players that he has helped go to college, and getting the opportunity to play baseball is a bonus. If I am not mistaken, the Bluegrass Chiefs routinely send 10 – 15 of their players on to college each year. Here are the 10 I know, Not sure about spellings and could not tell you high schools. These players from the 2007 Bluegrass Chiefs are in college and getting to play baseball. Lane – Mt. St. Joes McClean- Mt. St. Joes Baker- Ohio Valley University York- Ohio Valley University and now NKU Sheehe- Belermine University Weis- NKU Moore- NKU Oliver- Transylvania Hatfield- Transylvania Storng- St. Catherine

I was just being kind, don't know if the staff at Bellevue has actually seen him play yet. But like you I am sure he will be the Shortstop>

Any word on who will be the head coach at the new high school in Boone County. Cooper High School???????? I think they are scheduled to start play in 08-09.

Just like in other sports, it comes down to the size of the school. The bigger schools have more to choose from which equals better golfers, the small schools less to choose from which equals not as many good golfers. I talked about this in the baseball thread also, maybe we should take a lesson from our neighbors to the North. Ohio has a state championship for each sport in each class. I know in Northern Kentucky, it is tough for the Beechwoods, Villas, or Bellevue's to compete againest the Covington Catholics or Ryles, in every sport. Just a thought.

If we are looking for equality and crowning a true and fair champion for any sport, maybe we should take a lesson from our neighbors to the north. The State of Ohio breaks down every sport by enrollment of boys and girls seperatly for their sports. They Crown a State Champion on 6 levels for football and for baseball they crown 4 state champions. Here is the breakdown for baseball. Enrollment = # of male students from grades 9,10 and 11 in the previous year. Division Enrollment Schools I 411 or more 194 II 236 to 410 194 III 136 to 235 196 IV 135 or less 196 Total Schools 780 Ky. already has multiple state champions in Football, Track and Cross Country. The All "A" tournament already is played in almost every sport. Seems like just a little bit of effort to add 1 more level or two would be an easy soulution. How many High School baseball teams are there in the state?

WOW Beechwood goes from #7 to outside the top 50, They have 20 wins, I know they have lost 4 of the last 6 but 2 of the losses came from teams in the top 25 of this ranking and another loss was to team who is undefeated in the 6th region ( I Think) They have played a very difficult schedule, 20 wins this season with only 1 senior and 1 returning starter from last season is pretty impressive. Great Job Tigers.

Maybe I am wrong in thinking this. But don't schools (at least I think they should be) looking at it as having a baseball program, and not 3 baseball teams. If at any given time any given player can help the program at any level is that not what should happen. As long as there are no rules pertaining to that level. ( a soph. or Jr. obviously cannot play in the freshman tournament) If a younger player can move up and gain some very important experience against a varsity team, is that not helping the program at both levels. How different is this from bringing up a pitcher from louisville to help out the pitching staff of the Reds because of an injury or then even sending a seasoned Major leaguer to AA for a 3 week rehab assignment.
