With the “eephus” pitch getting some notoriety with CAL last year in the 7th region playoffs against Trinity and St. X, it’s mentioned recently with Randy Johnson on the mound. He accidently threw a pitch so slow that it didn’t register on the radar gun in the stadium. A boat’s horn in McCovey Cove in San Francisco accidently distracted Randy Johnson and altered his delivery. The pitch froze the batter, Fred Lewis, and was called a strike. Accidental Eephus

A few innings later, on came the eephus and Doggie blasted one over the monster.

My first recollection, of the eephus is Bill Lee and Luis Tiant, thru a modified version.

I believe it may have been first thrown by Steve Hamiton, who played for the Yankees and then was the Head Baseball Coach and later Athletic Director at Morehead State University. If I recall correctly there was a question in the original Trival Persuit game refering to it, but it was called something like the

"Folly Floater"
