Ruru308 Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Started playing division 1 knothole this year. I like the idea of having the kids playing better competition against teams from around the greater Cincy area instead of just Campbell County.
Hit and Run Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 The ability to do this as exixted for years. The Southwest Ohio Baseball League is on of the largest and most competetive leagues in the Country. http://www.leaguetime.com
Stayinline Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Knothole is still the largest in the area and for a price that is not an income for many others!

Have had teams in D-1 in the past, foud it to be a very well run competitive league. Have a good year. I'm sure your kids will enjoy it.
nees1212 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 The only problem with Knothole is that all areas should either draft or have tryouts. There shouldn't be a mixture.
cooperstown Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Knothole is still the largest in the area and for a price that is not an income for many others! Maybe in overall teams including all age levels, but not if you are looking at just teams at the D-1 age level. I agree that SWOL is more expensive, but there are ways to hold down individual player costs. For years, I only charged my players $200 per season and the rest of our (very large) budget came from various fundraisers and donations. As far as the comparison between quality of teams at SWOL and D-1 Knothole, SWOL (especially at the NL and AL levels) is stronger. That is absolutely not meant to disparage D-1 - it is a well-run league - but is something I witnessed firsthand.
Birdz 4ever Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 My son has played on the same knothole team since 1st grade(he is now in the 7th grade). We moved up to Div. 1 when they were C2 team, due to lack of competition. It has worked out very well for our team. We do a fund-raised once a year to cover the teams expenses. The only down side to Div. 1 is the traveling. We have played games that are 45-60 min away and the game is scheduled to start at 8:00 and we get home 11:00 on a week night. Not fun.

I had a team in Div. 1 for two years until my son moved onto H.S. ball. I remember the coaches at that time did all the scheduling. If you didn't watch it some coaches living in outlying areas would schedule the early morning or late evening games to get an advantage. I recall traveling up to Mason for a Tuesday, 8:00 p.m. game. The game ahead of us went into extra innings. Our game didn't finish until 11:20 p.m. and that was after we run ruled them after 5 innings.

Better pack a lunch and be ready to re-fuel Ruru cuz you will be traveling all over the place during the week. Good luck to your boys though, I know you all will do us proud here in NKY.
