  1. If you go to http://www.kcufootball.com there is a link to a great interview with Coach Damron by Morehead State radio. He sounds very high on the team and has some pretty high goals set for the program. He also used the interview as a way to reach out to the community and brag on the school. I don't think KCU could have picked a better coach. By the way, please pray for Coach Damron's father, Dick Damron. He had surgery a couple days ago to remove a cancerous mass on his stomach. They removed the mass, but found that it has spread into the top of his small intestine. Dick Damron is a legend in the area. He coached the KCU basketball team for many years, winning 4 National Championships. He is also a history professor and minister. He is a great man and a huge part of KCU. Please pray.
  2. Can anyone, who has seen him play, comment on Johnson Central RB Ron Blume?
  3. I know, UKCATSFAN. I was just stating how silly arguing about this is. Some people are ignorant to facts and like to stir up trouble. My post was more pointed at other unnamed posters. I just think it's ridiculous to say that one kid is better than another when they have not seen one of the parties play often or at all. Anyway.... RB WAYNE STEVENS from Bath Co. just signed with KCU!!!
  4. Boy, I sure am glad that I started this KCU signees thread. I didn't know it would turn into this. Maybe I could rename it the "Kasey Clark Haters" thread or the "Kasey Clark is God" thread. Either one would show both sides don't you think? In all seriousness, I agree with whoever it was that mentioned that a 17 year old does not need to be "bashed" (my quote). But on the other hand, a 17 year old does not need to have too high of expectations put on them. Kasey Clark is not going to be playing on Sundays in the future (I would love it if I ate those words in a few years) and should make his decision based on his desires for his future. He could go to a solid academic institution, play some football, graduate, and move on with his life and career. Unless you are NFL material, your college choice should not be driven by football. I hope that he is not being pressured by anyone to try to go "big-time" D-1 just to prove himself. He doesn't need to prove himself. He's already got the accolades and memories of an amazing football career. Wherever he decides to go, he may or may not add to those accolades. Either way, he will have a degree and will be set for life. I hope his decision is based on what he is comfortable with doing for his life's dreams and goals. I wish him the best.
  5. In my humble opinion, Kasey Clark is perfect to play safety in college. He's too small for linebacker, too slow for cornerback. I didn't say he was slow before anyone jumps on me. He's just not fast enough for DB. He definitely has the hands for DB just not the speed. That's why safety is perfect. He has enough speed and good hands to help out the corners and would be a perfect size for putting the big hits on receivers up the middle. If he can show a mean streak, he could be a John Lynch-type player.
  6. Yes. Clint Thompson has also signed. I just saw on http://www.kcufootball.com that JT Forrest has also signed. Those 3 were the heart and soul of the Rams this year. KCU got 3 outstanding players and leaders.
  7. Very solid game all around for the Devils. They did a great job in the 4th quarter of breaking the press. I thought that Seth Harvey had a superb game off the bench in the middle of the offense. He is a good passer in the middle of the press.
  8. KCU is a brand new program. They will be playing a JV schedule this year and plan to start their varsity program in 2008. They are planning to build a new football complex with offices and such. Here is their schedule: Centre College JV Faulkner University Kentucky Wesleyan University Southern Virginia University Georgetown College JV Wilmington College JV You can find out more on their website: http://www.kcufootball.com
  9. Has anyone heard anything about Scott Grizzle, JT Forrest, or Josh Wills yet?
  10. They just added a new one: CHRIS COOK OL 6’1 295 POINT PLEASANT, WV (POINT PLEASANT)
  11. I'm interested in knowing more about these players. If you have seen them play or heard about them please tell a little about them. KCU also added former UK o-line starter Aaron Miller! http://www.kcufootball.com 2007 KCU SIGNEES JAKE BOWMAN TE 6’3 235 MOREHEAD, KY (ROWAN COUNTY) ANDRE BROOKS DE 5’11 215 HARRODSBURG, KY (MERCER COUNTY) JESSE BURRESS OL 5’11 255 FLEMINGSBURG, KY (FLEMING COUNTY) DENNY CONLEY RB 5’10 170 OLIVE HILL, KY (WEST CARTER) JAMES CONELY LB 5-10 180 OLIVE HILL, KY (WEST CARTER) ADAM ELLIS WR 5’10 180 CENTERBURG, OH (CENTERBURG) GERALD EPLING DB 5’9 170 BELFRY, KY (BELFRY) ARCHIE GROVES LB 5’7 185 ASHLAND, KY (BOYD COUNTY) CHRIS HALL DB 5’10 185 ASHLAND, KY (PAUL BLAZER) WES HAMPTON RB 6’ 180 SOMERSET, KY (PULASKI SW) CORY HENRY LB 5’8 190 KNOXVILLE, TN (GRACE CHRISTIAN) DJ JORDAN WR 5’9 175 VANCEBURG, KY (LEWIS COUNTY) COREY LEE DL 5’10 230 HARDY, KY (MATEWAN) CHRIS MELTON OL 6’2 270 HAZARD, KY (HAZARD) CALIN NOEL WR 6’1 190 BLOOMFIELD, KY (SPENCER COUNTY) MARCUS PARDON WR 5’7 175 ASHVILLE, OH (BLUFFTON) MICHAEL ROBINSON DL 6’3 330 CINCINNATI, OH (TAFT) CLINT THOMPSON LB 6'1 205 RACELAND, KY (RACELAND) JORDAN WALTERS LB 6’ 195 SOMERSET, KY (PULASKI SW) SETH WILCOX WR 6’2 175 AUBURN, IN (DEKALB CENTRAL) STEVEN WOOLDRIDGE DB 5’9 180 SEBINA, OH (EAST CLINTON) TJ YOUNG LB 5’8 200 VINE GROVE, KY (FORT KNOX)
  12. I'm sorry, but this should have absolutely nothing to do with Coach Hicks' rights. The position of a High School basketball coach is a privilege and a responsibility. The coach should be a leader and a mentor on and off of the court. I have seen Coach Hicks coach several times over the last three years and, while I have no idea what he is like off the court, his actions on the court are inexcuseable for a man in his position. Being a basketball coach is not his career and this is not a matter of him losing his career. He's losing a little bonus money on a side job, that's how I look at it. I am tired of people using rights as a shield for things. Yes, he has rights, but he has to accept the consequences for his abuse of those rights. Scooterbob, no disrespect to you with my comments. They aren't directed at you at all. You just happened to be the one I quoted. I am just very frustrated with people being given several chances at things when it affects youth. He can act the way he does on his own time, but not in a position of leadership and respect with impressionable young men. Greenup County (with whom I have absolutely no affilition, I'm just an observer) needs to move on, and I hope they have.
  13. To say that MM has the athleticism of Vince Carter is a little extravagant. He's definitely above average but nowhere near the top (and yes I have seen his dunk videos) That said, I do think this could possibly be a blunder by the UK staff. He seems like a GREAT kid and loves UK. The only thing I have questions about is if he is that good!!! Noone seems to know how he is doing this season besides his first game where he scored like 50. That and his uncertainty with his grades. I also heard that he didn't even take the SAT this past Saturday as he was scheduled like someone mentioned earlier. These facts I believe warrant our trust for the UK staff (for now). But if it is found out that he has all of his grades in line and is a superstar, then an all- out tongue lashing needs to take place.
  14. I don't know if this is true, but my brother-in-law (whose from Huntington) told me that that ref was the same one that gave Patrick Patterson two technicals in the Highlander-Capitol game last year. Has anyone else heard this?
  15. Running is just a part of the discipline of basketball. It's been going on for forever. Not only is it punishment but it also is a great way to do conditioning. I remember the days of running bleachers or doing suicides 10 straight times. At the time it sucked, but come gameday it helped to give you that extra something in the 4th quarter. I don't buy the argument that it gives kids negative vibes in their minds or about running. I'm a teacher and have attempted to be brainwashed by the Kentucky education system that you can't make kids write anymore for punishment or it will make them not like writing; you can't tell them that they did poorly on an assignment because it may hurt their self esteem; you can't give grades in elementary primary schools for the same reason. These are all things that build character, but instead people have taken these things away and it just weakens our youth. I say run'em, spank'em, make them write until their hand falls off, and plant that big red "F" on top of their paper. It lets them know that they need to work harder; something that our youth needs to know and understand.
  16. FBALL, I agree with you. I've said this a hundred times. I don't understand why Russell gets away from their game when they have a big lead. EVERY time they let their lead evaporate. I don't get it.
  17. No offense to Greenup County folks because I have nothing against you, but this seems to be the norm throughout the district. I hear first person stories from kids that transferred out of GCHS that teachers turn a blind eye to certain behaviors. I wish parents would step up and voice their opinions. Coach Hicks would have been gone the second time he displayed himself the way he does when he first came to the school ( I always give a second chance). After telling the Russell Schools attorney to "shut up" a couple years ago from the bench in the middle of the game with the superintendent beside him after telling him to settle down (I was right behind him when that happened) that would have been the end of him. I feel bad for the kids. They deserve to be in a safe nurturing environment at school and on the court.
  18. It amazes me how Coach Hicks is allowed to coach. I hear people say that he is great for the kids and they love him, but his antics give GCHS a bad rep. I will say that he has gotten much better from about two years ago. We used to sit behind him when they came to Russell and he would mouth off to the fans. I do commend him on his improvement (then again I don't sit by him anymore so he still may be like he always was).
