Wireman
Final. I know nothing about this game besides the score. Seems a little closer than I would've expected.
oldrambler
^ Thats what I was thinking, I am not suprised at all with Russell winning but I really thought that they would blow Fairview out of the gym.
Wireman
It was at Russell, too.
FBALL
Instant Replay Russell is in control the entire game and lets it get to close at the end. The most athletically impressive team in the region may be the most fundamentally lacking. Do not sag off of Fairviews shooters. Especially Barker. They are not going to beat you attacking the rim. They final score really was much closer to the game. Once again Russell takes big leads and lets them slip away a couple of different time. It would be nice to see this team keep the pressure on for an entire game. Vanhoose had 28 to lead Russell and Barker had 27 to lead fairview. FBALL
Any stats on Gill? Just guessing but I would say 10-15 pts and 5-8 rebounds. Two missed dunks I know for sure.
russellrooter
VanHoose had 28 pts & 10 boards, Gill had 12 points (5-11), 8 boards and 5 assists (set out quarter and half in foul trouble), Blair had 10 & 6, and Robinson 7pts. I've seen every Russell game but one and haven't seen them play anywhere near their capabilities. Maybe they'll put a great game together against a good team. shooterx3
gotta to give credit to Alex Barker, he never quit and kept hitting big three's to try and give his team a shot, Cameron Hall also had to late 3's to help his team draw closer at the end. Fairview is going to get double digit wins this year, despite their youth

Armchair Coach
Too much Vanhoose especially the second half.I remember Russell hitting one shot outside the paint in the second half as they only hit one three for the game.IMO they completetely "overlooked/underestimated" Fairview.Despite being down early by 10(14-4) the Eagles never quit. This is a testament both to them and their coach Rex Cooksey. The Eagles should get better as the year progresses as they have only one player(Barker) back from last year that possesses "real" varsity experience. So why sag off him and give him open looks from the three point line?
Armchair Coach
Don't forget Armstrong. He is big and strong and really battled on the inside. You are absolutely correct Fball in regards to Armstrong. He always battles hard and provides Fairview with a much needed physical force.

So why sag off him and give him open looks from the three point line? There are several good shooters in the region and he is one of them.I really don't think Russell did anything different in this game than the others.Their defensive philosophy is to use their"length" to cut off the passing lanes. If you notice they rarely trap out of their 1-3-1 even when the dribble has been picked up.I realize some may be disappointed in Russell but thay are still 5-0 which is a significant improvement over previous Decembers.
