I look for Greenup to show signs of improvement as the season wears on, but to kick it off in the Hank with Devils who just a few months ago were playing in their second straight State Championship game is too tall of an order. Russell 35 Greenup 6

Well he is a Russell guy and there is no love lost between those two schools. Having attended both schools I am well aware of the stereotypes each school has of one another. But let's save the Raceland/Russell talk for October when they finally line up across from one another for the first time in over 30 years. As for this game- any word on how physical Ashland is going to be this year? I think to beat Raceland in any year you have to be extremely physical with them. Like I said before one thing Raceland will do is hit and hit hard and hit hard for four quarters. I talked to a kid who played for Fairview last year and is in college now who told me he honestly thought the Rams hit harder last year in the 4th Quarter than they did in the 1st. He told me it was like they never got winded or tired. Credit that Hoof and his staff for their conditioning programs. Can't wait for these two teams to line-up against each other this Friday!

If I know the Raceland faithful like I do they will paint one side of Putnam orange. Much like Russell/Ashland in Putnam it ends up almost seeming like a neutral field with the sheer volume of fans. Russell/Ashland last year was played on Saturday and the Russell side was populated by a bevy of Boyd County, Raceland, and other area schools' fans. So it didn't seem like to me, in that game at least, like Ashland had any home field advantage. Maybe the Russell kicker was somewhat distracted by the shirtless Tomcat fans in the end zone seating? Somehow, though, I highly doubt they would have played much of a factor unless it was the cheerleaders, and not a bunch of high school boys, with T-O-M-C-A-T-S painted on their chest screaming at the top of their lungs. As for the game I don't know much about Ashland this year, but I do know that Raceland hits and hits hard. For the last several years they may be one of the hardest hitting teams (maybe even the hardest) in the area. In their two scrimmages the same comments about Raceland keep being made they will knock the snot out of you for four quarters. I fully expect the Rams to come out and let that Orange Crush D rattle a few helmets and make a few plays to win it in the end. This game will end being all about defense and which defense makes the biggest plays at the right time. Raceland 16 Ashland 12

Well you have Russell then you need to add Raceland and if you have Ashland and Boyd County might as well add Fairview.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but didn't he win the District in '94 @Russell vs. Russell in his first season? Things are a bit hazy now but I think won that one and the one in '03. I may be wrong but I think that was the game Jeremy Calhoun, who had transferred to Raceland from Russell, hit a winning shot or some sort of big shot towards the end. Two district tiles in a tough district at a school as small as Raceland is pretty impressive. He also seemed always to Coach well in the All "A" Tournaments. Anyone know how many All "A" District/Regional Titles he won?

Some of his assistants will certainly get a look. Floyd, Clark, McCallister. I think Trimble will stay where he is. The dark horse may be Eric Keeton the girl's Coach at Greenup. He is a Raceland grad and was an all time great player. I have no idea if he is interested in the job though. Lots of Raceland guys in Raceland with a lot of talent and passion that can take over the program. It's a good job to have. Brand new gym, small school system, great fans, not an enomrous amount of pressure to win year after year. I may not always agreed with his way of doing things but Coach Johnson won basketball games and did a lot to make a Raceland a competitive program. He deserves a lot of credit for that. He will be a tough act to follow.

Wonder if he called a certain BGP member to let him know? Good luck to Coach Johnson and let me be the first to start campaigning for a certain Coach already in the system Coaching the Girl's to take over the Head spot on the bench. :thumb:

I am trying to think of another Coach who threatened fans (both his own and opposing team's) during and after a game and no others are coming to mind. Oh wait one other, but he uses the phone. :fire:

Well it IS Russell vs Raceland. I would HOPE there was jawing each way (albeit in that friendly "Our Super Quick is cleaner than your Super Quick" kinda fun way). I have seen Kasey Clark many times and I think FOOTBALL PRIDE must be watching a soccer, not real football. I have seen quite a bit of high school football on all levels in Ky and Ohio from Canton/Massilon to the Cincy area football when I lived there, to the sacred Louisville T, X, and Male and all other manner of algebraic equation schools in the state from the west to east and Kasey Clark would have been a 2 year starter on any high school team I have ever seen in the last 10-12 years. No matter the level, no matter the size, no matter the state. Had Josh Grosse not been around Russell his Junior year he would have been a 3 year starter at running back. That said Kasey's bread an butter is at Defensive Back. He is a fantastic running back, but in the defensive secondary he is a machine. He hits like a linebacker, no matter the size of the opponent, and is always near the ball. He attacks the hole on defense with the same initial burst he does on offense only this time can snap up the nimblest of runners and turn them inside out. There were many times, this season in particular, where he was two or three plays ahead of his opponents who were playing offense. In the Belfry game he might as well have read their play book because he was always in the right place at the right time, and more importantly he had his teammates in the right place at the right time the defense just made play after play after play. There is no doubt in my mind that Kasey Clark has the skills, the smarts, and the talent to play Division I football wherever he gets the chance. He may redshirt, may go the JC route, but he would play D-I ball and make an impact on the field, and maybe more so in the locker room. But if he decides to go 1-AA or smaller he will find quick success there. If Clark has made any mistake, it might have been NOT moving to Louisville or Cincinnati during high school where he would get twice the press. But that's one mistake I am glad he made for selfish reasons. And no matter how it shakes out, one mistake I bet Kasey is glad he made, because he is a Red Devil through and through and proud of it.

I think it showed the resolve of the kids. Definitely painted them in a good light. From reading the posts about the games and the GC situation in other threads I take it the two who did not want to keep playing are not in synch with the vote. If that is the case, as has been mentioned in other GC threads, then they need to be benched or excused from the the team. Hicks is gone and not coming back and the kids that are going through the motions and disgruntled owe it to their teammates to wake up or get out of the way and not ruin it for the rest of them. Kudos to Coach Sutton for taking this daunting task. And I hope the GC Community will put the drama behind them and rally around Coach Sutton and the kids. Thats what really bothers me about this whole situation- is that it seems like neither side is thinking of kids. I would implore to Jim Bob Hicks to step up and be the hero in this situation and call for his suppoters to rally around the team instead of making it more difficult. If he wants to stop being "damaged goods" (his words, not mine) I think that is where it starts.

Does Dave Deborde still coaching soccer down there or are we just not counting it as a sport? :sssh: If we are he is from Flatwoods and went to Russell. And Eric Keeton is from Raceland. One of the best Raceland B-ballers I have ever seen and I would love to see him coaching on the bench at the Palace someday.

All their games this year will be away. No home games until 2008.
