I am in the 16th, or as I like to call it the "saved the best for last" region! :thumb: One things for sure we do have some bitter rivalries in our region. Ashland/Rose Hill, Ashland/Boyd, Russell/Greenup, Raceland/Fairview, the list goes on and on. Never a dull week in the 16th.

Hence my reasoning for wanting to hear both sides. For me personally, his sideline antics would be enough for termination. As a teacher part of his job is to be a role-model and mentor to his team and arguing with fans and throwing tantrums on the sidleines doing a game does not do that, IMHO. There is a difference between "animated" and "dangerous" and Hicks has crossed that line more than once.

Wow if all this is true its safe to assume his goose is cooked. Dang. I had heard about him trying to fire an Asistant Coach, but had not heard about the possible recruiting violations. It will be interesting to see if the Independent gets his side of the story.

Congrats to Mr. Clark! Excellent and well deserved honor indeed. Cincinnati still in the mix? I wondered when that Coach left the the interest went to Lansing with him, stayed in Cincy with the new regime, or fizzled all together. I think Clark is more than talented enough to play at the next level and would love to see him play somewhere close.

Raceland/Russell has been 35 years in the making. Too bad they didn't play this year. I hate to see the talent both schools are graduating walking away one year before they could have lined up across from one another. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers! I am just glad to see this rivalry renewed. :ylsuper: :fight:

Somehow I missed this post. I would put Ryan Howell and Don Ratliff in the reserves (maybe start one of them) to score and score often. I am sure there a cople from 80's and 90's I am just not thinking of. I was taken to many a Russell basketball game growing up, and I am drawing a complete blank right now.

As for Russell someone with a much sense of Red Devil basketball history can chime in with the players, but I think we can all agree that Marvin Meredith and his 670+ wins will be the Coach. :thumb:

I think you have to put Ram Hall of Famer Jack Johnson on that team. Reserves give me Eric Keeton to work down low and Chuck Pack to hit threes. I haven't really followed the program since the mid-90's so I am sure there is one or two guys from Johnson regime that deserve consideration.

Anybody who calls anyone at home over what they post on a message board is a pretty classless jerk anyway. Perhaps this person should be more concerned with other things this Holiday season then what oldrambler says on a message board he paid to be a part of. If you can't stand the heat... :thumb:

Last I heard with Clark it was Illinois or Cincinnati with both wanting him to play Safety. With Cincy's Coach leaving I don't know where the leaves him with the Bearcats. Maybe someone more close to the situation can enlighten us? I haven't heard anything about Wills.

The bottom line here is Mercer won. Laying blame to the KHSAA for "stealing" a state title from Russell or 2A as a whole seems lame. Russell could have won today had they been sound on special teams and taken better care of the football. IMHO Russell proved that Mercer was not playing down at all. Russell has been one of the best 2A teams in the State in the last 4 years and Mercer only beat them by 3 points. Both Mercer and Russell dismantled all their opponents (except Ashland for Russell) during the regular season and throughout the playoffs. So I don't think anyone should use "Margin of Victory" as an indicator that Mercer County consolidated their way to a state title. I said it before in the game thread, but congrats to Mercer County on rightfully winning the 2A State Championship. You made plays on special teams, you took care of the football, and you should not let the detractors take away from what you accomplished. Best of luck to you next year. I will be pulling for you.

What a game. Both defenses deserve all the credit in the world. I KNEW this game was not going to be a blowout. The Devils should not hang their heads. What an effort by Kasey Clark and Wills for Russell and the same for Corey Jackson and Blake Arnold from Mercer. My game ball goes to Arnold for Mercer. His three picks were huge. Game ball for Russell goes to Clark. 22 carries for 78 yards, 6 catches for 114 yards. Not sure how many tackles but he had two stops behind the line and I think 1 sack. Congrats to the Mighty Mercer Titans! Great year for you guys and good luck next year. As for Russell, what a run guys. You guys represented us well and we could not be more proud of our Devils for hanging with the Titans. Congrats. And now I can go take a breath!
