Raceland Coach Shawn Johnson Resigns

Featured Replies

Coach Johnson will be stepping down from the Ram Basketball program to take a Central Office Position in the Raceland - Worthington School District. Coach Johnson has meant so much to the young men of Raceland throughout his 13 year tenure as the Head Boy's varsity coach. I was honored to play for him and he will always be a special person for all the qualities he represented and taught us as both players and as young men. The next coach will have big shoes to fill. Coach Johnson brought pride into a program with little success and turned it into a competitive program in the 16th region. He ran the program the right way and moved on, on his own terms. We at Raceland were extremely honored and privileged to have a terrific coach build our program into what it is today.

Congrats to Coach Johnson. I will sleep better now not having to go head to head with the rams with him at the healm.

Wonder if he called a certain BGP member to let him know? :D

Good luck to Coach Johnson and let me be the first to start campaigning for a certain Coach already in the system Coaching the Girl's to take over the Head spot on the bench. :thumb:

Coach Trimble would be a great fit with the boys program. He has done a great job with the girls.

First part - :sssh: :sssh: :sssh:

Second statement - If it is the one that I am thinking of I certainly hope so.:thumb:

The Johnsonville era is over and lets look foward to supporting whoever the next coach may be and a new era for the future.

Does this system not let you work in the central office and coach? I know of system that you could. I know you can't be a principal of the school and coach, but the central office....like I said, I know of systems that they have. Also may depend on the position you have at the central office too....Just wondering.

I am pretty sure that this is the case at Raceland/Worthington schools. Not positive.

Lets look foward to supporting whoever the next coach may be. I also agree that Trimble would be a good choice if offered and if he would be interested.

By the way Nash, welcome to BGP.

:thumb: Trimble would be a great hire. There are several that would be a good fit for the Ram program. J. Clark & E. Keeton are just a couple that I would also consider.

Is it a KHSAA rule that all coaches and assistants be "Certified" employees instead of "Classified" employees??

I don't think that it's that way in the private schools, but I may be wrong

Yes, I dont have the bylaw number hearsay is a good one to get that from, but the khsaa does outline who is able to coach as head coaches. School districts themselves determine eligibility of asst. coaches. Some like outside coaches and some only hire school staff.

So who will get the job? Any early favorites?

IMHO, Trimble will stay right where he is...

Should be a good opportunity for someone on that side of the state. Great facilities, good athletes= wins.

Some of his assistants will certainly get a look. Floyd, Clark, McCallister. I think Trimble will stay where he is. The dark horse may be Eric Keeton the girl's Coach at Greenup. He is a Raceland grad and was an all time great player. I have no idea if he is interested in the job though. Lots of Raceland guys in Raceland with a lot of talent and passion that can take over the program.

It's a good job to have. Brand new gym, small school system, great fans, not an enomrous amount of pressure to win year after year. I may not always agreed with his way of doing things but Coach Johnson won basketball games and did a lot to make a Raceland a competitive program. He deserves a lot of credit for that. He will be a tough act to follow.
