A & C are both subjective. How can anyone prove either one unless they (the parents) actually state that is why they are moving.

I really don't see it this year either, last year the two main scorers were Thelen and Welbrock; didn't see much or remember anyone else that stood out on last years team. I remember they had a hard time handling the ball up top and could not shoot very well from the outside. If Thelen and Welbrock struggled, they couldn't hardly score. I'm sure the boys will improve from last year to this year but I just can't see the improvement making them any more than an above average team in NKY. JMO

Ok, now I agree on the bad judgement by the head coach after reading the entire thread! My bad for not reading the entire thing; all I saw was the number of yards and thought "Holy Cow". Can't blame the player but the coach did make a bad call by doing what he did.

I see your point, but as big a school as WC is, I couldn't imagine JC to outclass them that much. If it were a 6A team playing a 1A team then I could understand the mismatch. Still, congrats to the young man.

I think if the player has a shot at breaking a state record or is on track to break a record by half-time, why not let the kid do it if he can? If I was a coach I would have left him in there until he broke it. I'll guarantee if the coach would have pulled him and kept him from breaking the record there would have been just as many comments about the coach pulling him as allowing him to stay in the game. It's a "catch 22" This is an accomplishment that this kid will hold on to for the rest of his life, I say congratulations to the young man!

The question was "letting a senior play JV". You are describing a senior playing just varsity. If he is a "stud" player and he is one of the best players in the school, then he should be on the team and play. A coach shoulld play the best players; unless the best players are not academically eligible or not following team rules. The best 15 should dress and play varsity...no matter what grade they are in. I have seen a coach keep juniors just to play jv with no real hope of them playing varsity their senior year. Then their senior year tell them that you can be on the team but you will sit the bench and get very little quality playing time. Two of the three quit and one opted to sit the bench. Poor tactic on the coaches part.

Housley and Avery too. But actually, what does it matter, anyone has the option to go to any school they want as long as they follow the rules. Sometimes the move works out and sometimes it doesn't. I don't think there is a school in the state that doesn't have a transfer.

Let's see..... in 2007 McCreary had Watts, in 2008 McCreary had Watts, in 2009 McCreary had Watts, in 2010 McCreary does not have Watts...Therefore, in 2010 Madison Southern beats McCreary.

If this kid wants to play basketball, maybe he should have started playing his freshman year and not his senior year. If the coach just gives this senior a roster spot on the varsity team, he just deprived the underclassman the opportunity to sit varsity that has been coming to practice everyday and knows his role on the varsity bench. No difference, no coach would bring on a senior to sit the bench when he has underclassmen that have been working to earn that spot for years. All coaches should play and dress the best. I agree with Big Slick, if the senior wants to participate and is not good enough to make the varsity team, they let them be a manager, asst. trainer, stats or the film guy. Not everybody gets "what they want" just because they want it. I bet the underclassmen that have been working for years "want" to dress varsity too.

JV is a developmental team for future Varsity players. If a senior is not good enough to make the varsity team, they shouldn't be playing. If the senior was serious about playing basketball, he would have started playing earlier in his high school years. A senior should not knock an underclassman out of playing time on the JV team.

Yes, his father lives in New York. He's been up there since school let out in the spring and he played for the NY Goucho's this past summer. This kid is going to be "big-time"! There goes a top candidate for 2014 Mr. KY Basketball for sure.

A lot of what you are expecting from the High School and AAU coaches depends on their relationship with the college coaches. Some AAU and High School coaches do more networking with the college coaches and some do nothing. Division 1 scholarships are earned in the AAU circuit. I don't know of a single Division 1 basketball player that has not played AAU ball at a "national" level for several years, at least at the 14U-17U age divisions. If a kid is good enough to play D1 basketball, especially if he is under 6'8, you better get them on an AAU team that competes at the national level once they get into high school; their chances to get that D1 scholarship will dramatically increase if they are out there being seen by the coaches, scouts and media. High school coaches can really make a difference with the D2, NAIA and D3 schools. Coaches that have relationships with the in-state and local colleges can help their players get athletic scholarships (D2 or NAIA) or play at the D3 level.

Honestly, I don't see anyone from NKY in the 2011 class getting a D-1 scholarship playing basketball. There are several very good players that can play at the D2, NAIA and D3 level but not D1. Just look how many D1 scholarships that's come out of NKY in the last six or seven years, Johnson, Neltner, Brock & Doellman (can't think of any more). As far as high school coaches helping find homes for their atheletes, some get involved and do a very good job promoting their players, some do absolutely nothing at all. You better determine what type of coach Travis has and make the decision for yourself in how involved you or someone needs to be in the players recruitment. IMHO if Travis isn't already getting "real" D-1 interest, (like an invite for an official visit) then, it is very unlikely he will get a scholarship at that level.

I agree that all rankings are subjective. Demling is from Louisville so he is always up on all the 6th & 7th Region players and some on this list barely played varsity time on average high school teams this past year. I've seen over the years, sometimes a player will make a list at an earlier age and they seem to stay on the lists whether they really improve or stay at that top level while advancing in years. However, I feel that Demling tries to be fair across the state and as non-biased as possible. One thing that some people don't realize is Demling attends several AAU events and sees players outside of high school ball. If he has missed some top players, I would venture to say those players probably do not play AAU ball or their high school does not consistently play top rated teams across the state. It's all about exposure!
