  1. The fans are still there and will continue to be for years to come. There ave been issues in all sports at the the county for a while now. Until someone with the authority steps in it will continue. All schools go through these things. The only way to jump start the athletic program again is to is community involvment, that's how programs like Highlands, Beechwood , Russell, Rraceland, and so many others maintain such a high level year in and year out. We can't just blame coaching. If it were that easy we would all be coaches.
  2. I've heard that Ivan McGlone was going to try to work something new in to his gameplan to try to offset the talent level since it's not as high as what Russell is used to. This uncnfirmed, but I have no doubt that what ever the case, Russell fans need not worry. This is one of our areas truely great programs year in and year out. I always look forward to seeing them play.
  3. They did win the district, but this time they have to find a way to do it with out Zac. As you may remember last year, if Zac had a bad game our Lions had another loss. We still have alot of returning players this year. I hope that the added experience will help them to find ways to win with what's been lost.
  4. If they plan to compete with anyone, they really need to work on the basics. They need to improve their tackling and line play. You can't let your line stand straight up and expect success. Last year both the O line and D lines would stand straight up as soon as the ball was hiked. If they fix that then they'll start looking good. If they work on the arm tackles that have been a problem the last couple of years, then they would be the likely front runners in the district. If they fail to improve on these 2 areas, then it will be a long season ending with a fight for 4th.
  5. I knew that Fairview could do it, I just wasn't sure that they would. Congrats t o Fairview on the upset.
  6. I thought the Tomcats would come to play, but I wasn't expecting a double digit spread. Congrats on a quality win over a quality team.
  7. Boyd County looked pretty good tonight. The line was still alittle soft though. They really need to address that if they want to be in the game next week. But still a good win this week, congrats.
  8. I think Boyd wins this one, but by how much depends on where Zac plays.
  9. I have ben wondering why Zac is usually at QB when they could make such better use of him else where.
  10. I have to agree, as a QB Zac is not the best Boyd has, but as an athlete he's got no equal on the Lions team.
  11. I think Russell wins by 21, and it wiil be their last win for '08.
  12. I'd like to see Greenup win this, but I think their in a liitle too deep. Rockcastle should roll in this.
  13. I would say Beechwood a 1-A school could probably beat 90% of the 4-A schools in KY so how does the classifications matter that much?:ylsuper: Not saying much, 4A is not exactly stacked with power house teams. Top to bottom, it may be our weakest class. I'm not saying we don't have good teams in 4A. We have some very good teams, just not as many as the other classes for some reason. Take this game for example, Boyd County, a 4A district champ got all they wanted from Fairview, a 1A 3rd place district finish.
  14. It was 4th down, they had to run it or Fairveiw would have had time to run a couple of plays. It almost got almost got ugly when Boyd scored 20 unaswered points in 10 minutes, but the Eagles dug deep and mounted a nice comeback to keep it respectable.
  15. I have seen both teams this year. I have seen them in person. Boyd is bigger, faster, and stronger. Fairview is a better coached team. If Boyd was as well coached as Fairview they would be setting at 7-2 going into this game. Since Boyd is mostly junior and seniors where Fairview is sophmore and freshmen, I think Boyd wins this, this year. If they play again next year, Boyd will likely get throttled.
  16. I have to go with Boyd County on this one. No doubt Fairview is far better coached, but they don't have anyone to put on Zac. Boyd is alot bigger, stronger, and faster than the Eagles. It should be a good first half, but I think Boyd takes over after that.
  17. I would say Boyd. Yhey play or don't, things like weather and location seem to make no difference to them. I can't quite figure them out.
  18. I think Russell will move the ball weel and score fairly regular, but so will Mason. I still have to go with the Ivan McGlone/home field advantage on this one. I know Mason has a solid coaching staff, but Russell has been outplayed all night in a couple of games this year and still won by 2 T.D.'s.
  19. If the Lions that went to Breathitt and Ashland show up at this game then the Vikings get an easy win, but if the other Lions team shows up, you know, the one Russell and Pike Central got a look at, then the Lions get another solid win. With the bye week to prepare and knowing the district title is on the line, I think Boyd County comes to town and plays a solid game.
  20. I didn't know they had enough seniors to make an impact.
  21. I'll take LC in this one. The Daws have played the tougher schedule and played it close. As for what happened at Rowan, everyone has a bad game. Keep in mind this is a young team and is playing teams that have far more seasoned players. I think LC wins this one and makes a good showing against Letcher County Central and Breathitt County.
  22. I see no benefit in it. The only program they have to deal with that is on the level of Lexington Catholic or Bell is Belfry. Then add in Rockcastle and you got a job getting to the championship game. Don't forget about the other teams you would need to go through besides the three already mentioned. If they can get around Belfry in AAA, then all they need to worry about is if they have to play Central.
  23. Russell has a good team, but I kinda figured they were in over their heads in this one. I think they'll biunce back and pull in the win over Mason County in a tough battle.
  24. I'm taking Breathitt County in this one. Both teams are very good, but I think BC is a little better.
  25. I think the AP may actually have it right... at least for Ashland. They can play with the guys from about 6 or 7 on down. They are not ready for the likes of Highlands or Bowling Green. They are young, but good. I think they're right where they need to be, for now.
