Should Tomcats be in the top ten now?

Featured Replies

Please give your opinion on this topic. I don't see why they shouldn't be after beating WC who was 8th in the state. The cats have a 5-2 record and are 2-0 in their district.

Personally, I could care less. But if I was forced to give an answer, I would say “no”. I like our role as underdog…polls have a way of denying you that. The only exception to this, of course, is the only poll which really counts….the one at seasons end.

I certainly hope none of the Tomcats are asking this question.

A little recognition would be OK, I guess. But, I would NOT want the Tomcats to become satisfied. Ashland has improved each week and they have not peaked yet. I'd rather see them dissatisfied. The underdog roll - with something to prove is a good one for this team.

Really, if you're not the lead dog in the dog team - the scenery never changes.

I tend to disagree with this answer. The Tomcats just defeated the number 8 team in the state. They would be looking at the underdog role the rest of the season except for the GC game. Traveling to Bryan Station will be tough for the Tomcats. The week following that game they will face Johnson Central where they will once again be a heavy underdog. I feel that Ashland should definitely be top ten worthy. I also know that these boys will not be satisfied unless they are number one. And if what everyone is saying is true about them improving every week I would be afria to play the Tomcats in the playoffs. They are a very hungry team after last years embarassing 2-8 year. I see them winning out and flipping the record around from last year to finish there regular season 8-2. So 1st and goal if this happens, are you going to deny the tomcats a top ten spot?

I think the win over Woodford County puts Ashland in the discussion for a top-10 ranking, but not necessarily in the top 10.

I think Ashland & Hopkinsville should be in.

Here is my 5A Top 10:

1 Highlands

2 Bowling Green

3 John Hardin

4 Owensboro

5 Johnson Central

6 Oldham County

7 Christian County

8 Ashland Blazer

9 Hopkinsville

10 Woodford County

I think Ashland & Hopkinsville should be in.

What about Bryan Station and Doss?

I think that Ashland has played well enough to deserve top 10 recognition. However, these polls mean nothing. Playoff wins will decide who is number 1 and who the top teams are for the year.

And if what everyone is saying is true about them improving every week I would be [afraid] to play the Tomcats in the playoffs.

Respectful? prepared? thankful? etc., sure. Afraid? Never!!!

I agree that Ashland is certainly worthy of top 10 consideration. However, 5A is a very difficult class, particularly at the top. :)

I am definitely for the Tomcats the rest of the way...but to say that Johnson Central, Covington Catholic, or Highlands would be afraid to play them is definitely seeing things through maroon colored glasses.

The fact is that Ashland is having a very nice season. They are a very good team. Unfortunately, though, they will be considerable underdogs in many of their upcoming games.

I Absolutely agree with your post and attitude. :thumb:

Well said RP. :thumb:

I for one am happy with the underdog role for this team. And as someone said above even if Ashland is ranked in the top 10; they will be underdogs in their last 2 regular season games and on into the playoffs.

Here's to working for improvement and upsets.
