Breathitt County (4-2) - After starting the season with back-to-back losses against two teams with a combined record of 11-1 (Johnson Central and Prestonsburg), the Bobcats have rolled off 4 in a row, including an impressive 40 point win at Harlan County and a win against a 6-1 Estill County team.

Lexington Christian Academy (5-2) - LCA has lost two of it's last three, but those losses were tough road games against two undefeated teams, Corbin and Raceland. They have a high scoring offense that averages just slightly under 49 points per game.

A few stats...

PPG - Breathitt County (29.5), LCA (48.7)

Points Allowed - BC (13.0), LCA (28.0)

The Bobcats average 316 yards rushing and 96 yards passing. Channing Fugate has 1083 yards rushing and 10 TD's.

LCA features a more balanced and explosive offense, 250 yards rushing and 230 yards passing per game. Dominique Hayden is averaging over 220 total yards per game. Brandon Burdette is the top WR, but they have multiple threats in the passing game that put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses.

This game is an interesting matchup contrast. LCA brings a balanced, explosive offense and a defense that can be exploited, especially on the ground. And the ground is Breathitt County's strength as noted earlier.

LCA allows over 200 yards per game on the ground...Raceland ran for over 200, Lloyd Memorial nearly cracked 300 and Corbin ripped off 399 yards on the ground. Breathitt County's defense has been pretty stout this year, allowing 13 points per game. They've only allowed 25 points in the last 4 weeks after allowing 26 and 27 to Johnson Central and P'burg, respectively.

Breathitt has held up well against the pass this year, but I'm not sure how much the numbers can tell us though because BC hasn't played any big passing attacks and certainly no team like LCA. They have typically struggled the most defensively with big, physical, power running teams.

Keys to the Game

Breathitt County - They need to control the game with Channing Fugate and their rushing attack. They need to take care of the ball, control the clock and finish drives in the end zone. Getting and keeping the lead while keeping LCA's offense on the sidelines is paramount. The Bobcats can't expect to shut this offense down if they allow them too many opportunities and they can't win a shootout.

LCA - The exact opposite...they need to jump out to an early lead and force Breathitt County out of their game plan and into catch-up mode. The Bobcat passing game is capable of producing big plays, but they've yet to play at a consistent level. If LCA forces them to pass, their odds of winning go way up.

This game should come down to whoever can execute their game plan and impose their will. So, who does that?

I'm taking Breathitt County in this one. Both teams are very good, but I think BC is a little better.

This has to be one of the top games of the week in the state. I'll pick Breathitt County in a close one.

This should be a great game. I definitely agree with you on the keys to the game, if you Fugate gets tons of carries and can find some space to run, Breathitt will be able control the clock and keep the score relatively low. If thats the case, they have a great shot at taking down LCA.

On the other hand, Breathitt could have trouble matching LCA's explosiveness, and Im not sure Breathitt can keep up with LCA in a shootout.

Give me Breathitt to win this one, something like 27-21.

Dude I have never seen a better synopsis of a game than what you did. I can't add to it.

It's the "same old same old" -- plenty of offense, and an absent defense.

As in past years, LCA's defense doesn't gel untill the middle/end of the season. I have been expecting that.

However, so far I have yet to see exemplary defensive play against the calibre of teams that we will face in the playoffs.

I hope this angers a few of the kids that may read this. SOMEBODY has to step up and stop the great offensive teams that we play, and there aren't many weeks left in the regular season to make those improvements. (THIS WEEK would be a good time for it.)

I think this is a big game for Breathitt County because its the last good team they play before the playoffs. Playing a strong team should reveal some areas that they need to improve on and give the team an idea of where they stand right now. Also, a win would be a nice confidence boost.

Honestly, I think any scenario could play out in this game...blowout or close win by either team.
