I think so too, Mountain Man. I think the Estill team that took Powell by storm tonight could easily march into Rupp. It also probably depends on what kind of crowds the team can get to Knott County - but I would think both teams will be doing what they can to get their fans to Hindman.

I like Cody although I dont think my vote would have been for him. I think if he was playing for another team he wouldnt have those kinds of numbers --- but then again that is exactly the name of the award "most valuable player." To another team - he may not have been as valuable. Ah - I'm putting too much thought it into this. Congrats to Cody on a great year.

Oh man what a game for Estill. They were absolutely firing on every cilinder that you could imagine. Dixon was just unstoppable on the boards. Reese and Puckett threw in some huge buckets. Berryman led with hustle and Christopher did a good job holding on to the ball. The crowd was deafining on the Estill side and just completely took Powells out of the game. They even stole the Powell county free throw superstition of extending the index finger in the air and coming down with the big "swoosh." All in all - a very exciting game if your an Estill fan...probably one that was hard to sit for if you were for the pirates. Should be a heck of a game Friday night.

Why do they pick the Coach of the Year so early? I think the districts and regions should play into how the coach does over the "year."

From what I hear - Estill is focused and are iching to get to Beatyville. They arent looking to Friday from what I can gather - and have decided to take these playoffs one game at a time.

Cody Gilbert has big numbers but there really isnt a lot of players around him to do anything else - and the team still hasnt won with his big numbers so that rules him out in my oppinion. For me its between Rich and Dixon. Depending on how each do in Beatyville this week and then perhaps in Hindman.

Estill vs. Powell in Beatyville on Wednesday. Estill handled Powel in Stanton and came from behind to force the game in Irvine into OT where they eventually won. Powell will be out for blood - and Estill will be out for the three-peat. I like Estill in a close thriller game. Your thoughts?

I hope so, country boy. Although I respect Lee County and especially their represenatives here on the boards - Id much rather play Owsley on Friday night.

Estill has picked up two more seniors in Noah Eads who played for several years before taking off to focus on football and Josh Rogers who has been playing for only a few months and can already easily fit in the 4-5 seed place. Eads should fit in the 3-4 spot as well. Estill returns seniors Josh Turpin who was runner up in singles, Jeremiah Spivey and Dusty Stevenson who were winners in doubles, Josh Newton and Cody West who were runners up in doubles - and junior Philip Smith who won the region in singles. Estill only lost one girl who played the 4 seed from last year's teams and have now picked up another senior as said above and two more girls that will add depth to what should be a good girls team this year. The only weak side of Estill's team is the coaching. They are currently coached by one of the players parents who works for the school system I believe and doesnt know a whole lot about the game. Regardless, the team is stacked with talent and expierence (Turpin, Spivey, Newton and Smith have been playing on the team for 6 years.) and should easily repeat in winning the 14th and if they get a good draw at the state level they could make some noise.

I'd have to say Coach Wright - especially if they go to Semi's or beyond in the region. If so - he should be a shoe in.

Good win for JBS. It still doesnt prove to me that their weak scheduling paid off...but still.....big win and knocks off the regional host early. Interesting.

It isnt hard to choose a winner in this one. Anyone with a dollar to bet would put their money on Lee County. That said...I see no reason why it is impossible for Owsley to win. When they are on their game they have no problem scoring....it is the fact that they dont match up with Rich that will probably be thier undoing. If Lee County comes into the gym tonight looking around the walls for a place to put their 56th district banner - than the Owls just might have a little psychological nook that - if they play good - can be opened up. I think Lee will pull this one off in a close game but I would not be completely shocked if Owsley pulled the big upset.

Well yeah - Jenkings, Besty Lane, Breathitt, and Owsley could all be considered less than top calilber. Although these teams fail far in comparison to 5 games with teams such as Riverside, David, etc.

This may be closer than some think if Gilbert decides to throw in one more masterpiece before he graduates. With two other capable scorers now off the team - there will be even more opportunities for him to shoot - so he may have a huge game. Still not a big enough one to take down the Bobcats. Lee County takes this one by 9 or 10.

Well I'm surprised by the score. I would have thought JBS's tough scheduling would have perpared them for a game like this. *sarcasm off* Good win for the Bulldogs.

It's good to see that the clear favorites arent overlooking thier first round match up in a very capable Owlsey team. On our side - I know Powell will be looking for blood as they havent picked up a win over the Engineers this season. If Estill plays as focused and determined as they did tonight they should be able to get past the Pirates though. I guess we'll all find out in Beattyville. Sometime after I get a big Bacon Cheeseburger from the Purple Cow. Yummmmm.

I'm not entirelly sure - King. I know they had an outstanding young player in AJ Hayes last year...not sure if he was a senior or not.
