I hear Owsley is going to the old NC 4 corners and try to win 2-0. Lee just need to jump out and get an early lead.

Any thoughts or predictions

Can't stall the ball without the lead.lol. Owsley still has the same matchup problems they have had all year and I see no reason the outcome will be any different.

:thumb: From what i heard the owls lost one of there best player. Owsley couldnt beat them with this player so i really doubt the game will be even close. :thumb:

I don't think the owls are missing anyone and at any rate I don't think it will be a blowout. Owls will be ready. I just hope my Bobcats aren't overlooking them.

Owsley does indeed have matchup problems, particularly with Rich. The Bobcats have a very well balanced team this year. They can hit you hard with the inside game (Rich; Fetters--a great slasher-type player imo) or they can knock the 3 down from anywhere (Brandenburg, the twins...others). They also have really hurt Owsley on the offensive boards this year...too many putbacks. And I feel they are a good defensive team. Owsley will have to generate more offense than the last time they played them. In that game in the All A region, the Bobcats completely shut down the Owls' offense. Actually, the Owls didn't get into much ofensive plays, spending much of the night passing the ball around the perimeter before an eventual attempt to penetrate the defense. Owsley will have to solve that problem, and come up with something different that will work, or they will suffer the same result.

 

Owsley can win this game, though, but a LOT of things have to go right for them....and Lee has to have an incredible off-night. Of paramount importance is getting out of the gate early and taking the lead. Owsley has proven this year that they can be tough if they stay in the game in the first half, but when they get down in the early going they seem to have difficulty making a comeback (Estill, Elliott, Letcher). If they keep it close in the early part of the game they have a chance (Perry Central 11 point loss, June Buchanan 1 point win, South Floyd 8 point win, Hazard 8 point loss, Breathitt 2 point win).

Also it would really help to get Rich in early foul trouble. Keep banging it inside, if he blocks a few so be it, keep attacking. And try to pick up some charges. I thought at Sherman Neace that some of the younger Owls, like Reed and Wilson, could have taken some charges off some of the Lee drives...but they didn't stand their ground, or would turn sideways and pick up a blocking foul. Tyson Gross or Adam Terry needs to give them some leasons :lol: .

 

I'm not going to make a prediction....except to say that everyone had better get to the game early because it will definitely be a packed house. Brian Milam of WYMT said it was the best rivalry in the mountains that few people outside the 14th region knew about, and he is right on the money. Lord, could I tell some good war stories dating back to the early '80's and actually throughout the 80's, when both teams where loaded and at the top of the region. :lol: Some of them are rather comical, such as the day before one of the district tournament matchups between the two, someone from Lee County twice rode a horse around the Owsley County school building during the school day wearing the Bobcat mascot outfit....and waving "we're number 1". Or the time that someone called in a football score to Channel 18's Alan Cutler (who had just moved to Lexington from Pittsburgh) and reported that Owsley's football team had defeated Lee's by a score of 24-3.....of course neither school has a football program, but Cutler was new and didn't know that, and ran it across the screen and read it on the air. :lol: So, the Owls held the Bobcats to a field goal and won by 21 in the only pigskin game ever played between the two .

 

They'll need to hold the Cats to quite a few more field goals on Tuesday... then anything's possible.

 

But please don't let the mascot ride that horse around the gym! One sighting of that was enough :lol: .

Owsley is a definite underdog in this game. Lee has a team that has already defeated Owsley 3 times this year and they cause severe matchup problems. Owsley will have to play an excellent game and excute on both ends of the floor in order for them to defeat Lee. There has only been one team (Montgomery) to defeat Lee at home this year and the 56th is held in Beattyville.

Tensions will be running high on Tuesday in Beattyville. Can't wait!

The Owls have got to be perfect in this one and the Bobcats have to be dismal. I can't see them holding the basketball. they don't have enough ballhandlers to do that.Especially without Neeley. it will be a great atmosphere but I have to believe the Bobcats rule this year anyway.

If Lee County doesn't completely overlook Owsley the Bobcats will win, but they had best remember that this is the game that lets them advance to region, not the next one.

Neeley's back playing, but I'm afraid to say whether he will play or not. The last time I did that it caused a thread that lasted over 100 posts and was finally closed.

If Owsley plans to hold the ball or run the Princeton offense, they will have to be perfect on the offensive end. This game may be closer than what you think. If they play as a team for one last game.
