I'm right there with you bigcat. Coach Wright did an amazing job leading his team through a competitive district (going all year without a loss) and had one of the favored teams to take the 14th region going into tourney. Coach Wright coaches with a fire that excites his players as well as the Bobcat faithful - and quite frankly is appreciated by rival fans such as myself. Let's not forget that Coach Wright led the bobcats to a 14th Division "All A" title back in late January before losing at McBrayer to 10th Region powerplayer, Bishop Brossart. That said, Coach Hall and Jackson City had a fine run last year, of course missing playing at Rupp Arena by a mere 7 points in the 14th regional finale with perenial region power Hazard. Despite this, City went 12-8 in the region with 4 of those wins coming from District play while Lee County who returns most of their core players went 17-4 in the region; while assembling a 10-0 district record. Given the statistics from last year and the fire I seen from Lee County on so many occasions last season - and the collapse of City at Estill after leading by around 20 at the end of the third quarter (given that this was the only chance I got to see them)....I'd have to notch my oppinion in the column of Lee County not only having the better coach - but having the better team.

While I am glad to see Estill come away with a win in the 56th - it does worry me to see how poorly we shot the ball all night. As Professor pointed out, the Owl's defense surely played into Estill's poor shooting. I would be skeptical of the thought that Estill did not come into this game thinking it would be somewhat of an easy win. As Einstein pointed out, I would have thought that the Owls would be tanked after losing their best player off a poor team the year before - but that appears to not be true. Props to Coach Parret and company for a hard fought loss - and if nothing else - a little early season (albeit - District play) excitement.

Can't say how impressed and proud I am of the lady neers this season. Win McKinnely took over as coach two years ago - I must confess - trying to rebuild a program that went 3-19 the year before seemed a stretch to say the least....but all be it - here we are three years later and we're off to a 4-0 start with a 2-0 record in the district. I look forward to getting to Irvine real soon to see the ladies in action. Keep up the good work in Irvine, McKinnely. :thumb:

...And a lot of fouls and sometimes poor attitude. I will give you that Puckett was often an outstanding player. He hustled like no other...but that same hustle often got him into considerable foul trouble - and scuffles on the floor with opposing players. That said, I think Estill will miss each of the three starting seniors from last year, as well as others who contributed in other ways such as senior Austin Moore being a fan favorite and teammate favorite on the bench. All teams miss players when they leave/graduate. The team will make it without Dixon's presence; Reese's shooting, and Puckett's hustle. All teams lose players - what's important is how well a team and it's base move on. I believe Estill will do fine doing just that.

Christopher scoring 33? Wow. Blake comes from a lineage of fine basketball players. Glad to see that Estill has options outside of Berryman's shooting. I can't wait to get back on the road with the Engineers.

This could very well be the game that Lee show's dominance on the 56th. I look for the Bobcats to be firing on all cylinders and roll out of Stanton with a convincing win.

Estill dominated the Owls in both matchups last season - but the Engineers lost three starters including one of the most productive players in Estill history - Clinton Dixon from a year ago. I haven't seen or heard too much about the Owls at this point in the season. I know that Estill will probably be very weak in the paint, and may be running swing shooter - Berryman from the 5 out the post and back in. This could ware down Estill's premier scorer. Without the ability to judge the Owls this year - I will predict an Engineer win.

Estill Tennis Standouts, Jeremiah Spivey and Noah Eads parted with the team yesterday due in much regards to the lack of quality coaching. It's sad to see these two fine players go - the team could really have been good had they just had decent coaching. Best of luck to Spivey and Eads in all future endeavours.:thumb:

Clark County's starting pitcher walked the first three batters which loaded the bases and Estill scored three runs in the first inning. Estill Pitcher Cody Berryman threw 100+ pitches in 6 innings of work. Sewell came in relief and did a good job on the mound as well. Estill scored their other two runs in the 5th and 7th innings. Clark scored 1 run in the first, and tried to start a come back with two runs late in the game but Sewell pitched well to close things out Good win for the Engineers!:thumb: :ysluper:

Here is what I have on Estill this year in Baseball. With only three seniors, they are very young. With only 2 EVERYDAY starters from last year's team, Cody Berryman and Tyler Sewell, both juniors returning. The top three pitchers on the team are Berryman,Swell and a lefty freshman Freeman who can all really bring it in the low to mid 80's. They could all be very dominant from the mound. Estill as fire hitters in Berryman, Junior Eric Kirby, Freeman, Sewell, junior Tyler Turpin and senior Austin Moore whom all hit the ball hard with consistancy. With Freeman and Kirby producing most of the power. The entire lineup is expected to hit the ball well, however. The infield will be strong with Berryman on 3rd, Sewell on short, Ripberger on 2nd, and Moore on 1st. And with a very good defensive catcher in Turpin beind the plate. The outfield could be vulnerable for mental mistakes with a sophmore in center and a freshman in right. With Coach Wood, they will be ready to play. Look for them to make a good run at a district championship but they will be deadliest next year. They play PCC at home Saturday. Good luck!

If Hazard is lucky - Central will have nothing left after battling Station, Woodford, and Scott Co. - but I doubt that is going to happen.

Im a little surprised by the score - but I didnt know a lot about Warren Central going in. Congrats to Mason and the Royals.

Hazard did look pretty tough on Monday night. They were shooting lights out and really made Wolfe work for the few rebounds they did get.

Preston's a good player but he has struggled against quality opponets.

I couldn't agree more. For most of the night he had a guy about 3/4 his size guarding him down low - but the guards just wouldnt get it into him. The play at the end of the game where Christopher air balled the three was supposed to be an inside pass to Dixon where he would try to draw a foul ---- but who knows.

That would be Powell County, of course.

Clinton Dixon - One of the best players in the region. One of the best rebounders in the state. Could score anywhere on the court in any kind of situation. Could post up or pop it from the arch. A real team horse that could carry the team through just about anything. Stuart Reese - A sweet stroke from outside as well as a great penetration pop and shoot kind of play that led to a lot of mid range buckets. Can play defense all over the court and was really a team leader in every sense. Even when he had the ankle problems he was out on the line clapping hands with players as they warmed up. Jesse Puckett - Can play defense on just about anyone. A great shooter who can put it in a defenders face or back into a fade away from either wing. I really like Jesse and wish he had got more coverage this year. Zack Reagan - He was very good about making his minutes count. He didnt play as much as some of the other seniors - but when he was in he would constantly come up with HUGE blocks and shots. One of our best ball handlers and could really use that left handed running jumper effectivelly. Austin Moore - A fan favorite. Good to see him play ball again this year. He came up with the big steal and lay up that put Estill up for good over Jackson City. Just an overall good guy that will be missed around the Estill campus both in basketball and football. Chad Aldridge - Another guy who really knew how to make his minutes work. He could play some great pressure defense - and hated to get called for a foul. He can shoot when hes on - and just was always pumped up to play. Estill will be losing three starters from this years team and they will really be missed next year. The Engineers return guards Cody Berryman and Blake Christopher and will probably look for big play from Tristan Cackling and Chris Hoover. Estill will be lacking size in a huge way - unless a transfer or something unforseen happens over the next few months.

Two of my three least favorite 14th region teams. Hope they eliminate each other in some huge use of a loophole. :lol:

I just wanted to post here that the above were posted by a friend of mine yesterday that talked to Clinton. I, personally, know that he had been to Cumberland and that ALC and Berea are interested. He could probably walk on at Eastern in my oppinion - but WKU and UK are a little far fetched. Clinton's a good ball player - and nice dude as well. Best of luck to wherever basketball - and more importantly his heart - leads him.

Just to clear things up on the pep bus situation - I talked to an administrator at the high school yesterday and I found out the gist of why there wasnt one. Being as though Estill played Friday night - and the turn around was only 2 days (on a weekend no less) there wasnt a chance to get permission slips passed out to the students. It just wasnt possible to get clearance to take a bus load of kids without permision, or to get that permission in such a short amount of time. I was told had Estill made it Friday night - there would have been more going. Including the pep bus.
