Highlands wins this game Saturday without a tremendous struggle. When you watch the game Saturday the most noticeable difference you'll see between the two teams is how long their respective plays take to develop. Speed is often talked about when you mention Highlands, but it's actually explosiveness at the snap of the ball. Perhaps some might see speed and explosiveness as being synonymous, but I really don’t. When I picked Highlands over St. X I explained how I thought it would happen. Besides “its senior day”, “it's a rivalry”, “it's at Cov. Cath”, “they hate other”, “pride”, I would love to hear from some Cov. Cath. folks how they're going to get it done on Saturday. Fair enough hopefully.

I was tempted to start a thread about your comment, which I think is a good observation. I think Mr. Ernst's omission begs the question, "Has the Highlands v. Covington Catholic football match-up lost some of the magic?" I know it's a little early, but even on BGP there just doesn't seem to be the build up that there has been in the past.

Is it me or does it seem that it's the same two or three folks starting threads with a hope to disparage or diminish the Highlands football program.

Highlands will be on a mission this Friday and quite frankly Dixie probably couldn't have caught them at a worse time. Will Bardo's performance in the St. X game will be very inspirational to this team and they'll demonstrate it Friday night. Highlands in a big way over Dixie.

It's all well and good to be a homer, just be realistic about it. From what I hear, you can't even play for St.X if you run a 5.4. IMO Highlands will be over matched in this game. The St.X corners will probably be somewhat better than what Bardo faced on last Friday night with Boone, and the front line pressure will be greatly different. I like the fact that they are taking on this challenge which will make them work harder to make plays and get better, but I see St.X controlling a majority of the game. Plus the refs will be on National TV, so that possibly eliminates the chance of some favorable home cooking calls. Good luck to both teams! You can't be serious? Just look at the stats, the answer is right there. And like us Ohio folk have been saying for years, you simply cannot play players both ways and expect to beat schools in Cincy like Colerain, Elder, Moeller, etc. Maybe that works in the Bluegrass, but it ain't gonna fly across the river, I can guarantee you that. Clyde is insinuating that the game will be a blowout and the Highlands JV players will get into the game because in essence it will be over sometime prior to the final buzzer going off.

I assume you mean if the Birds blow these guys out are the JV kids going to get in. Surely you don't think these JV kids are talking about getting in the game based on a blowout by St. X.

I didn’t realize that having 6'2 corners who can run was such an anomaly. After being apprised of this I'm sure Bardo will line up behind center and run dive plays all night.

I'm glad you asked this question because you've given me an opportunity to distinguish the Highlands program from others. If the Highlands Bluebirds were playing the Chicago Bears today there isn't a doubt in my mind that every player on the Highlands football team and most of the Highlands faithful would genuinely believe that the Bears were going to get a butt whipping today. Everyone not only believes in the mission but more importantly know it's going to be accomplished. No other thought to the contrary enters the minds of these players or most of the Highlands faithful. Yes it's true that the 31 or 32% that pick Highlands to win probably are fans. But I would be shocked if any thought it wasn’t truly going to happen. That's the difference. Call it lunacy or whatever, but it is a genuine earnest belief. Highlands fans, players, ect.. will never hang their hat on playing teams close regardless of who they are or where their from.
