  1. The officiating was not very good, but it didn't cost Highlands the game. Congrats to Conner on a well played game.
  2. Unless Highlands completely breaks down they'll beat Conner tonight.
  3. I will give Highlands a slight edge to win it all. They've got to get by Conner, which I think they'll do. You beat a team once you may just had a better game. You beat a team twice you're probably a little better than they are. One of those victories was on a neutral floor. The key for the Birds is their post play. Towles and A. Adler have combined to average almost 30 points against Conner in their earlier meetings. Highlands has also demonstrated they can come from behind and beat Conner. I think in their second match-up Conner jumped out on Highlands 10-0. I think Highlands will when its’ next game. The final will probably be Highlands and Notre Dame. Highlands fell behind 19-6 to the Pandas in their first meeting. If they can keep that from happening I think they could win it. There is no for sure thing here. Conner is certainly capable of beating Highlands. I just don’t know of anything that has occurred since the last time they played each other to make me think otherwise.
  4. Just curious what your logic is on that one. Please don't say, "You can't beat a team three times." That's the oldest cliche in sports.
  5. Girls' basketball Ninth Region draw ... The thing will start with a heck of a matchup. Here ya go: At Ryle Monday Quarterfinals Highlands vs. Conner, 6 p.m. Dixie Heights vs. Holy Cross, 7:45 p.m. Tuesday Quarterfinals Boone County vs. Ludlow, 6 p.m. Notre Dame vs. Dayton, 7:45 p.m. Friday Semifinals Highlands/Conner winner vs. Dixie/Holy Cross winner, 5:30 p.m. Boone/Ludlow winner vs. Notre Dame/Dayton winner, 8 p.m. Saturday Finals, 7 p.m.
  6. Both of these teams are pretty good, obviously. I think they both will need more balanced scoring to beat Notre Dame and Highlands. Conner didn't adjust at all in this game. Boone had two players that scored 49 of their 59 points. Those girls had great games, but to depend on that again against Notre Dame or Highlands might be a little risky. I've never been to a game where with 30 seconds left in the 4th and Conner driving the announcer is making announcements with live play going on. That seems like it might be a little distracting. Anyway great game, good luck to both teams in the regional.
  7. I was just told this was final.
  8. You would think the NC coach would be a little more gracious. "If we played Highlands 10 times we would win 5 of them". Well Coach the last two margin of victories for Highlands has been 17 points. I dont see this changing anytime soon.
  9. I laugh when I hear stories like this. If this is true this kid would probably be drafted this year. Somebody's been watching the movie "The Rookie."
  10. Anyone have details on this game. I know that Conner won, but couldn't find a score anywhere.
  11. I've learned the hard way about comparing teams by their wins or losses against similar opponents. On its face your point about NCC beating Woodford County by 25 and Highlands beating them by only 3 would make one think that NCC has a clear advantage over Highlands. There are other factors to consider. Highlands played Woodford County at Woodford County. NCC played them at home. Woodford County hit 10 3-pointers against Highlands. To be able to withstand that I think is pretty good. If we look at it like you do, which is more impressive. Highlands 63 Woodford County 60 Highlands Victory NCC 65 Woodford County 37 NCC Victory OR Highlands 59 Holy Cross 28 Highlands Victory Holy Cross 50 NCC 47 NCC Loss My point is that arguments can be made either way and there are many factors to consider. This will be a good game. I think Highlands will win because they're more balanced. Adopting your methodology one might say Highlands wins big based on last years district game where they beat NC 80-56. The only difference this year is that NCC lost their D1 player. But I'll stick to my prediction that Highlands will win in a close competitive game.
  12. North Hardin in 19-6 and according to the C-J Girls' Litkenhous Ratings is ranked 12th in the state. This will be a great challenge for the Birds and should prepare them for NC on the 25th.
  13. Highlands beat HC by thirty points early in the year. A win like this this says a lot about your coach and your team. I've been watching this team most of year and they keep getting better and better. I'm very impressed with your determination and willingness to drive on. You have a very good team, Good luck!
  14. I was told by a guy who was at Champions that he was there last Sunday and was hitting between 86 and 88 mph. The guy said that for February and throwing in gym shoes that was pretty good. He's gotten into a very serious conditioning program and has gained 15 pounds.
  15. I think the final score was 83 to 42 Highlands.
  16. High 80's is very strong. I've never heard of the kid, but if If he throws in the high 80's he will be dominating and we should be hearing about him very soon. That's division 1 velocity. What year is he? Does he play summer ball?
  17. The game is at Holmes. Holmes had a nice win over Ludlow this evening and will ready to play. Highlands I think is a little more balanced and should prevail. Holmes has a nice player (Weaver) who's going to a division 1 school.
  18. I think his point is obviously that Highlands was successful in the tournament because they started and played upper classmen. Unfortunately when your varsity team is loaded and you have upper classman that don’t get a great deal of playing time you play these players to develop them for situations that arise in varsity games throughout the year and for the upcoming year. Most coaches would love to have this problem.
  19. I agree. I thought the idea of the All A was to give smaller schools a chance to play in a state wide tournament. Heck if you're a small school in the 36th you get your cake and eat it to.
  20. You're totally right about Conner. They simply don't match up with Highlands. I do think that Notre Dame, Boone, and NC are capable of beating Highlands. NC has simply not played up to their potential this year for whatever reason. If they put together a great game they might have a shot against the Birds. Highlands is very balanced and can beat you from the outside and the post. The, "its hard to beat a team three times," mentioned in an earlier post is a sports cliché and is really applicable only to very competitive teams.
  21. You are right about the article, it was very nice. The point of my thread wasn't about the enquirer's performance, but just that I though Mr. Ernst probably should have mentioned that Highlands had a couple of games this week and his implication that the Boone/Conner game was somehow going to set the stage for a 9th region showdown and a shake up in the polls. Perhaps he wrote the article prior to this past weekend, then it would make a little more sense I suppose. The shake up in the polls should occur as a result of Highlands's two victories over Conner and one over Boone. Maybe it's just semantics, but oh well. :thumb:
  22. I never said that Mr. Ernst had any ill will. If you read the post it says he needed to do a little more research. Ill will requires there to be some sort of malice or intent. I'm afraid it is you my friend that have been become exited about some friendly bannering on a high school sports blog.
