I didn't realize that this draw had already taken place. I support Newport in this district, but agree that this matchup in the first round is the reason why I wish there was a KHSAA mandate for seeding.

I agree. I thought the idea of the All A was to give smaller schools a chance to play in a state wide tournament. Heck if you're a small school in the 36th you get your cake and eat it to.

I understand why Bellevue, Dayton, and Newport are against seeding but to have two teams like NCC and Highlands play each other in the 1st round when they are CLEARLY the two best teams, just waters down the regional. Sure, one of those three teams get to go to the regional but almost guarenteed to be stomped in the first round. Shame that the KHSAA does not have the coconuts to step in and make it mandatory to seed. But that's what we should expect from a figure head with no guts.

There's a thread in the boys forum. There is actually a contingent that think the draw is good. They like to see the small schools have a chance. I was typing pretty vigorously last night:madman:

Remember that Highlands got by Bellevue by only 6 points. HHS last 8 points, I believe, came off foul shots. Anything can happen!!

When will the KHSAA wake up. Time and time again everyone complains about this come tournament time. If one district in the state seeds then every district should or if there is a draw everyone draws.

 

I understand the smaller schools not wanting to seed but why wouldn't they want the best teams in their district to represent them in the regional and possibly going down state. H.S. sports is about the kids not the adults who think the trophy's make them look good.

It should be one way or the other. But at least the draw gives the smaller schools a chance to play. Otherwise it would be the big schools or the private schools with their 'select' teams year after year. If it is seeded, districts need to be redrawn. Maybe to match what was done for football.

We are. Love the draw. Keeps the tournament the same throughout. Draw at regionals. Draw at state.

If that is your goal then in the 10th region every team out of the 40th (I think that is the district) needs to make the regional tournament. Montgomery, Clark, Bourbon and Paris are all in the top 5 teams of the region.

 

The goal is NOT to get the best 8 teams to regionals. It is to get a geographical winner and runner up to regionals.

 

Same as with the state tournament. The best 16 teams do not make it to state. It is the winner of 16 different geographical regions.
