Highlands 62 NCC 51

I thought I saw an 11 point LadyBird victory predicted in the other thread:D

NCC kept clawing back in the second half, even to take a 1 point lead at one point. But LadyBirds led by Allen, and A. Adler stave off the LadyBreds to advance in the 36th. Bad night for NCC basketball.

WOW! Very impressed with lady basketball in the 36th district. Two fine schools with excellent coaching playing their hearts out! What a scrappy, high intensity match-up! Reminded me of my old AAU coaching days where the refs "let 'em play"! Katie Allen was the star tonite!! Others of note were Adler #31 and the Ms. Messmer! Not her best 3-ball nite but Natalie Horner made some very clutch free throws down the stretch. NCC has a couple of stellar guards in Sandfoss and Janie Giesler. Sandfoss plays like a greyhound and Giesler plays like a pit bull on D! Shoot the ball, Janie!!! By the way...is there a limit to the # of Gieslers one school can have??? Sort of like the Smiths in FB!!

Congrats to the Birds. Just curious did the crowd stay and watch the girls play?

Very nice crowd for the girls game. Stands were full on both sides.

That's great, good for them!

You would think the NC coach would be a little more gracious. "If we played Highlands 10 times we would win 5 of them". Well Coach the last two margin of victories for Highlands has been 17 points. I dont see this changing anytime soon.

I couldn't believe that when I read it also. They play 10 times, HHS wins at least 8 of the 10. The game was good but once HHS took the 8 point lead in the third NCC couldn't get anything going. Very physical game inside. I really like the Tabor girl from NCC and the frosh guard is going to be a good one. With what NCC has returning they should be fine next year. It's hard to believe that this will make the second time in three years that NCC hasn't made the regionals. As for HHS they are a good team but in order for them to be great Horner has to be able to make the outside shot and last night she didn't. Horner making shots opens up the middle for Adler and Towes and also gives Allen some freedom.

...and she did what all good team players do when their shot isn't falling...play stellar defense and knock down clutch free throws! Keep chucking it up, Nat! You're too good of a shooter for them not to start dropping! :ylsuper:

You are correct. I have seen her make those shots on many nights, last night just wasn't her night for shooting the outside jumpshot. IMO HHS needs Nat to make some of those shots for them to win the region.

Whats up DMZ? No nicknames?:thumb:

That may have been a heat of the moment quote and possibly to keep her players' heads up for next year but it did sound a little like sour grapes to me when I first read it. Im sure NCC's coach didnt take this loss very well.

...I thought with lady players it might get a little ...er, sensitive? I was even a little tentative about the greyhound and pit bull analogies.

:D

I did have a "throwback" moment at the game. Sam Messmer had made an errant pass and Coach Jaime called a TO. The redness in her face and the steely intensity in her eyes with the vein jutting out of her neck as Messmer approached the bench reminded me of my playing days when Jaime's Dad coached FB. All she needed was glasses crooked on her nose and a tie slightly askew and she was a dead ringer!! (LOL)

I hope not. Keep them coming. W/ the Smiths, don't forget the Kues, Maushart, and Greudenschlager are all 1st cousins.
