First of all, nobody has ever said anything about a state championship being handed to Mercer this year. I sure as heck havent said that, nor have Mercer fans on here, not that I can recall. Secondy, I dont care one iota about any rankings or mathematical formulas that are in papers, message boards, etc., not one bit. Thirdly, not everybody on here is an "armchair coach", all I have to do is read some of the posts on here from certain people to know that, either they are a coach, or are within the "support" staff somehow and actually have some intelligence about what they are talking about. Lastly, I welcome all of the negative, clueless, wrong, foolish, nonsense talk that come from people on here when it comes to the merger, last years state championship, HC Marty Jaggers, etc....I love it. Why?! Because if people didnt feel somewhat threatened in a way, then you wouldn't have naysayers, b/c naysayers dont give a dang about people or teams that dont pose some sort of a threat. Think about it, why do some teams, high school or college, get "boooed" more when they are the visiting team than other schools?! You think Utah State or Portland State if they were to play USC would get "booed" in the Colliseum like Oregon or Cal would?! Would you like to take a guess why?!?

Oh, and I forgot to add, which Im sure you and your buddy Namecips will appreciate this one. In 2003, when Jaggers was the O.C and Danville, a little school with about 450 came up to y'alls place and WON with that "predictable" offense. (Yes, I realize that you all returned the favor in '04). Just wanted to put that out there..

44% winning percentage in the time frame mentioned above?!? Are you serious?! Im assuming that you were referring to Jaggers winning percentage while at Lincoln County. Im far from a mathematician, but Im a lot more advanced than you, that's definately apparent. Jaggers record while at Lincoln was as follows: '91 8-4 '92 9-4 '93 13-2 '94 9-4 '95 8-5 '96 2-8 49-27 That comes to a winning percentage of 64%. Excluding the '96 season (when he had to start 3 freshmen, by the way), Jaggers had a 71% winning record in his first five years of a head coach, EVER. Oh, and by the way, 2 of the wins that he had in his first 3 years were v.s Bowling Green and Warren Central. In '93, in the State Finals, I hardly call a score of 28-13 being called "soundly", especially when you take into consideration that CovCath had something like 48 seniors that year, the same number of total players that Lincoln had on their entire team. You're another on here that becomes a tough guy sitting behind a computer.

I dont have a clue about what anybody has to worry about..and in Coach McGlone's case, I hope is nothing but good things, but I was just giving an example that y'all could relate to on your end.:thumb:

Ill actually be busy at any of the Mercer games you choose to come too. I tell you what you can do though, is choose to wait for me after the ball game and Ill discuss anything you want. Im not gloating about anything, you make wrong assumptions, and I give you what actually happened. The bottom line is that this has been an infortunate situation, in all aspects. I know Jay Cobb, and from what I know of him and then giving/knowing all of this information, Id be lieing if I said I wasn't shocked at the move that was made. Im going with JoeDirt on this one, because I got a good feeling that if Coach McGlone had talks with a coach of a team in y'alls area that he had a good playing past with, and talks of scheduling a game for the upcomming year were all, but etched in stone, that Coach McGlone or anyone else would take an email messages, phone conversations, hand shake or any other type of "agreement" as the gospel. The thing that's crappy about the whole thing is Mercer could have gone and found another game for week 2, but didnt. Why might you ask?! Easy. Say what you want about Jaggers being naive, crying over spilt milk, whatever it is that floats your boat..but, in those first weeks of June, Cobb was interviewing for the Hendo job and everything that transpired from there. Correct?! Jaggers at least had the respectability not to bother Cobb with the scheduling while he was contemplating his future and the unfortunate, heartfelt dilemma that Cobb was dealing with then.

You obviously werent at the same games that the rest of us were at, that's for dang sure. Because if you are basing all of your info off of those 3 games, then you are WAY, WAY wrong. The South Laurel game, Mercer didnt throw the ball ANY at all, NONE. They just happened to roll up almost 650 yds on the ground v.s an old 4A team that had gone 9-1(I dont know their playoff record, but that was the regular season record). As for the Boyle game, Mercer, I think, went 1-10 (the first play of the game was a 30 yd completion that was called back, false start on a lineman). In the Russell game, Mercer attempted a single pass; a screen that nearly ended up in Russell's bleachers due to the wind. I believe you said that you saw Cory and Brandon take some receptions for TD's, but you must have seen them on the news, because what you say you recall doesnt even come close to matching up with what happened to the games you were at. Mr. Godfather, aka "Joe Dirt", correct me if Im wrong!!?? ha

That offense you said was predictable was also that same offense that Marty Jaggers ran when he was the head coach at Lincoln County (3A) from '91-'96, which included five playoff appearances. Within those playoff births, there were Three (3) Regional Runner-up's, 1 Region Championship, 1 State-Runner Up and one year, his first as a head coach ('91) Lincoln made it to the 2nd Round.(guess what the majority of the current 5A is made up of?!?! Ding Ding, we have a winner Chuck!! That's right, Namecips got it..the old 3A!!) At Danville, when he was the OC from '98-'04, he also called what many believed to be a "predictable" offense...guess what, it worked. You can say what you want about Danville being 1A and all that blah, blah crap, but then you're just not giving teams like Boyle County, Manual, NewCath, Beechwood, Glasgow, Breathitt County, LexCath, Mayfield (all are teams that Danville beat, running a "predictable offense") the utmost respect that they have gained across the state. Those teams mentioned all deserve credit that is more than well-deserved when being considered some of KY's current/historic elite's. I don't care what class!! The wishbone, flex-bone/jet, heavily run dominated offense(s) arent the only ones that Jaggers knows, by any means. Guess what, though?! They work. For whatever reason, Jaggers has always seemed to get criticized for because his offense(s) arent, I guess, innovative enough for most. Whatever the crap that is all about, I have NO CLUE.

Maybe because your talking about the span of over 9 years where Jaggers and Cobb have either played v.s one another in the regular season and/or playoffs, and scrimmages over the years and thinking that when someone tells you that they want to play and agree on it, verbally, then it's as good as done. Like Larry Vaught wrote in the paper, if you dont think that dang near every coach in the state doesnt at first VERBALLY agree on a game before the contract is ever signed, then maybe, just maybe you are the one that is confused.

How do you know that Mercer's passing game last year wasn't capable?!? You don't. You have no clue. Mercer didnt have to throw last year to win, if they HAD to , they would have, but they didnt NEED too. When Marty Jaggers was at Lincoln County, they were 3A, he faired pretty dang well, including going 2-0 against your BG Purples ('92 Heritage Bowl) and Warren Central ('93 Semis), and I got news for you, the overall talent level edge was definately not on Lincoln's side of the field. Granted, there was talent, including '93 Mr. Football, Jeremy Simpson, but in the overall scheme of things, it wasnt even close. Oh yeah, and those teams won playing smashmouth.

Apparently you werent there at the state final game, at least not on the field. Im not going to start a discussion on here of beating a dead horse, but I got news for you, in the weather conditions of that friday morning, the fact that a team would have been able to score was miraculous in itself. To be honest, I dont think a lot of you give RUSSELL enough credit. The way some you say in regards to Mercer "barely" beating Russell, ticks me off, and Im not even a Red Devil!

If that's what Jaggers wants is to take the last week of the season off before the playoffs, I can't blame him. That would seem pretty smart to me, especially since that last week isn't district play. That was dumb on the KHSAA's part IMO (not having the last week a distict game). Personally, I dont thing that it would matter if it was Henry Clay or a 6 man team, if you have the option of taking the last week off before the playoffs, I think that's a great move on Jaggers and any other teams across the state that are choosing to do the same.:thumb:

Mercer agreed 2 months ago to play at Somerset.Somerset called Metcalf last friday and broke the verbal agreemnt to play Mercer. Mercer just found out today ,July 15th.

The game was agreed upon by Mercer, they have the game scheduled to be played at Somerset.If the game is not played ,it isn't because Mercer backed out.

Congrats Clay. The Hendo job is a great one to have at any age, not too mention having this chance as a first-time HC

Chase Harp is the son of Danville HC Sam Harp. I have no idea of this rumor to be true, so Im not going to comment, but I will fill those in on the young Harp and his background for you all that might not know. Chase played for UK from 98'-02'. He was originally recruited to UK as a QB where he was all-state at Danville. He got switched to TE at UK and started there for 3 years. After he graduated was a Grad Assitant at Syracuse during the '03 season, then returned to Lexinton and was a G.A at UK for the '05 and '06 seasons. Most recently he accepted and assistant job as the offensive line coach at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina (Div. 1-AA). I havent heard anything about Chase applying for the Somerset job, but I can promise you this, with the experience he has not only playing, but coaching, then having a dad who is a living coaching legend in the state, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

You're exactly right. The undersized LB's for KY did a great job all things considered. Everybody knew the type of player Clark is, and he showed. Braxton Miller (Lincoln Co/ WKU signee) was undersized as well, because he'll be playing in the Secondary for the Hilltoppers. I thought Braxton did a helluva job..as did the entire all-star team. Congrats on a great win!!

Henderson(the town, the county, the school, the players, boosters, fan support, money, etc.) has all the ingredients to be right there with the teams you just mentioned.

If the 4 to 5 hour practices are actually true and something that really happenst throughout the whole year, then I think that's a going just a little bit overboard to say the least. I know of teams that might go that long in the playoffs if needed b/c of the sun setting early (going down to the game field and staying down there a while), which is all good. My guess, though, is that the 4-5 hour practices arent a daily or even weekly thing in the first place.

The opportunity would be too good to pass up. In looking into Hendo, Coach Pardue would be looking at a situation that would be comparable to combining Boyle and Danville, if not more. What Coach Smith did is something that will be hard to top, at any class, in any state (excluding De La Salle and Hoover), the fans in the outskirts of Danville, Perryville, Junction City, Mitchellsburg, etc. need to get over those expectations REAL QUICK, because THEY experienced something that most ball clubs could ONLY HOPE to expect....once in a lifetime, if at all, ever.

On this discussion I only needed to read this certain thread and you are exactly, 100% correct in that statement. To put that in a higher comparison, this would be like Spurrier leaving South Carolina for the other USC...nothing wrong with where he is, but things could be just a little bit better with where he would be going, and then again, maybe the grass isnt greener, but no one can blame any coach (in this sense, coach jackson) across the state for looking into the position at Hendo.

Congratulatations to Coach Jay Cobb. He will do a great job at Henderson, as he has done at Somerset over the past several years. Cobb is from Webster County, and he also coached there. Now at Henderson, he'll be close to home to go along with an extremely talent riched school.
