  1. Without trying to sound like a smart alec, we looked like the 1st scrimmage of team full of inexperienced Jr.'s and Sophs. and only a handful of seniors that had their first live "go at it" with other teams. Different kids played different spots, different combinations of kids in different places, etc...typical 1st scrimmage type stuff. In saying that, as far as raw talent and speed goes, Mercer faced two the other nite (Bryan Station and Western) had more of that than anybody the Titans will face all year, with the exception of Hoptown. In saying that, all went pretty good. If anybody was keeping a score tally..Western scored two, to Mercers 1 and Bryan Station scored 1 to Mercer's 0 (got within the 5 yd line on the last 10 play series before ran out of plays).
  2. Should be a good one like last year. I don't think I have every seen a scrimmage with the atmosphere that this one last year. This will be great for both teams and a fun one for the fans:thumb: . From my understanding it is going to be played @ Admiral Stadium?!
  3. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Western doesn't have another All-State back. They have all the talent in the world, but keep in mind, that talent is young. As for Mercer, the same type of thing, young, but more inexperienced than anything. Mercer has a Junior class of about 30, but last years '06 Senior class consisted of 24 seniors, so this Junior class has had to wait their turn, so-to-speak; especially since they had to play in the shadows of last years bunch of playmakers for the whole season. They are just going to have to go out, get their own feet wet and go from there. Both schools have an untapped group of talent. The thing about these two schools is, that, they should get better each and every week, as will all schools, in every class, to some degree, but this is moreso true for those teams with the youth and inexperience like Western, Mercer and others who fall into this same category.
  4. For the 1st scrimmage of the year, for both teams, I thought they both looked very sharp. Western has an unbelievable amount of talent, as much speed as anybody in the state, very well coached and if anybody out there doesnt think that they won't have something to say about determining the 4A State Championship, then think again! Both teams went 20 and 20 (20 offense, 20 defense..10 play intervals, then switched). Western got the nod 2-1, I believe?! Neither team got in the wishbone, Mercer did one play, they both just experimented with other things. The kids from both sides played with emotion and had a great amount of respect for the other at the end. For the 30 minutes they(Mercer and Western) went at it, they did just that, they got after it. Good luck to both!
  5. Intelligent, smart post :thumb: . I hope we can make it that far, hopefully these young, inexperienced pups can get better each day, each week and then we'll see what happens in November!?
  6. Mercer had to go in the gym last nite from 7:00-8:00. The heat index out on the field was between 109 and 114, depending on where you were. Inside the practice field of the Indoor facility the heat index was 111!!
  7. No problem, glad I could help! Also, to add to that, if the game had been played at Boyle this year, Mercer would have only had 4 home games, then 6 in '08...exact opposite of Boyle, so by doing it this way, it seems like it helps both schools out.:thumb:
  8. I could go way back the last several years about teams that "should've" been playing a class up in a previous year, I mean, a lot, and even several from this year, but I won't because the thread will get shut down and Id be wasting meaningful minutes of my life into meaningless ones. The would have been in the lower half of Class AAA. And yes, this is a topic that's been like beating a dead horse, like beating a dead horse, like beating a dead horse, like beating a dead horse...and did I mention, that it's been like beating a dead horse?! I know you didnt know, but now you do.:thumb:
  9. Im with you, 100%. People who arent around and don't know anything will speculate against Mercer, that's all fine and dandy. They'll just use all of the negativity as motivation, besides, theres nothing wrong with flying under the radar. Lastly, I thought Id throw this out there too for others who doubt Mercer this year...comparing this years Mercer team v.s the '06 team would be like comparing apples and oranges, in saying that, this years 2007 team will practically be the sameone lining up to play in '08. So, those who want to make that comparison will just be looking foolish, but theres always some in the crowd, just like in anything else, huh?! haha Oh, and thanks for the positive words AllUsedUp!:thumb:
  10. First of all, you making that comment, makes you sound like your Red Devils werent very physical, that was and always is proved to be false. Secondly, you apparently werent at the same game I saw, becausse it looked to me like both teams, especially on defense were absolutey knocking the you know what out of oneanother. By the way, Mercer's line in 2006 consisted of mainly sophomores, all of which are back this year and for the '08 campaign. Best of luck to you all this year!
  11. I dont know the whole reason, but I believe it had something to do with the fact that with the new scheduling, district realignments, etc. that if the game was at Boyle this year, then Boyle would be having 6 home games, which would inturn meant that they(Boyle) would have ONLY four home games in 2008. So, Im guessing that Jaggers and Pardue agreed to do it this way?! I believe that is the correct reasoning?! I hope this helps!
  12. Nobody was saying anything about last year.
  13. On the staff or are you asking if other coaches are in the video?? Marty was the only Mercer coach in the clip.
  14. That it was and that he is. You can hear Larry Vaught in the background, making comments towards Jaggers too, they're pretty good.
  15. ...of country music's platinum recording duo "Montgomery Gentry" took part in a funny skit for the Advocate-Messenger's Area Football Preview a couple weeks ago. Follow the link, and the video footage will be on the front screen for you to play. It's pretty funny. Enjoy. Jaggers' youngest daughter makes her Hollywood, 10 second cameo, too and a little nervous, like any 8 year old would be! haha (They change the video's every couple days, so if it's not on the front page, I guess you'll just have to thumb you're way through the site?!) http://www.amnews.com/
  16. ...has updated their football website, http://www.mercertitans.com . I thought some of you would enjoy it. Make sure and check out the pics and the other "media". Panoramic views of the facility and stadium, too. Pretty slick. Thanks to all of those who put in the work on this site, it looks great!
  17. The playing field this year is the best it's been in a while. It looks dang good right now, bermuda, of course, and this week should only aid in that(heat). The stadium is ok, nothing spectacular, but that will soon change. A brand new stadium is going to be constructed with the completion of the new HS. From everything I've heard, it will also have the sprint turf like the indoor facility, will seat 4,000 on the home side and 1,000 on the visitors. Follow this link and you can check things out: http://www.mercertitans.com
  18. I guess your right, poor little private school Qwensboro Catholic is still 2 A in 2007 while 2004 State champ, Belfry, and 2005 2A State champ Russell have moved up to 3A. The other thing I noticed is 6 out of the last 8 State champions have been private schools. So by looking at this ,you need to be a bigger public school playing smaller schools or be a private school.
  19. In terms of raw talent, yes, they do, that doesnt mean everything, but Im telling you..and that is just my opinion.:thumb:
  20. Just watch...they might have been beaten by Male in 2004, but guess who Male got beat by the week later?!?? North Hardin....I can promise you that the talent pool that year was even between John and North.
  21. Is it too much?! Really?? Because last time I checked they whooped on the most talented PUBLIC school that Louisville had to offer...they're called MALE, maybe you've heard of them (2nd Rnd of the 2005 play-offs)?! The following week, it took a St.X 2pt conversion in the last minute to beat them in the regional final. Just so you know, from what I've seen, and also heard, the team this year is more talented than 2005's!
  22. You're dang right about that!! He fixed one up for me the other nite where I almost needed a pitch-fork to help me lift it off my plate, because I felt sorry for the plain ole' fork I was using, I think they retired it!! (and I dont EVER use a fork to eat pizza) :jump:
  23. Have you ever seen John Hardin play?? Well, let me add to that...have you seen the ATHLETES, and did I say, ATHLETES that John Hardin has on what is now a yearly basis, and even moreso this year?! Im here to tell you right now that that they have JUST as many athletes/football players rolling through there team as Bowling Green, Hoptown, Christian County and any Lex/Louisville school you can think of....not to mention a more than proven head coach in Mark Brown (won 4A state championship at Nelson County in '96).
  24. That's top knotch right there!! Definately something to be proud of! I can't wait until the new stadium/field is done for Mercer after the new school is built! That's awesome Johnson Central!
