Danville/Mercer Scrimmage

Recommended Posts

Should be a good one like last year. I don't think I have every seen a scrimmage with the atmosphere that this one last year. This will be great for both teams and a fun one for the fans:thumb: . From my understanding it is going to be played @ Admiral Stadium?!

Thank you... How did we look in the Scrimmages the other night at LCA?

Without trying to sound like a smart alec, we looked like the 1st scrimmage of team full of inexperienced Jr.'s and Sophs. and only a handful of seniors that had their first live "go at it" with other teams. Different kids played different spots, different combinations of kids in different places, etc...typical 1st scrimmage type stuff. In saying that, as far as raw talent and speed goes, Mercer faced two the other nite (Bryan Station and Western) had more of that than anybody the Titans will face all year, with the exception of Hoptown. In saying that, all went pretty good. If anybody was keeping a score tally..Western scored two, to Mercers 1 and Bryan Station scored 1 to Mercer's 0 (got within the 5 yd line on the last 10 play series before ran out of plays).

I have heard that Danville is a little down this year????? I was not at the scrimmage but was told that Mercer lacked a little intensity until the coaches challenged them later. Hope this group isn't living on last years success. they need to step up and establish their own identity!

Danville is Danville. They've always had talent galor, they do now and always will. The only thing is, it's all young talent this year. The same goes for Mercer. They are replacing a lot of wholes, except on the lines. Here is guessing that Mercer and Danville, both, in their past weeks scrimmage had quite of few that were "put on the spot" for the 1st time in their young high school careers and actually having the spotlight on them for once in varsity, up tempo action. That's a big difference than the days of freshmen and J.V ball. Mercer's young ones are well aware of establishing their own identity, saying that again would just be pointing out the obvious, so to speak.

The great thing about Mercer and Danville's young/inexperienced teams this year is that each week they will get better. That's true for most teams, but especially these two and others across the state just like them.:thumb:

Mercer's secondary the other nite, of their 4 starters, had a Junior who has only played his freshman year, two other juniors who saw very limited action on defense in varsity last year as sophomores and a senior who has never played a snap of football in his life. Another thing, and this isnt making excuses, but facts. Mercer, over the past 3 months has lost their 2 fastest players, one to transferring (Tyler Mays to Madison Central. He won the region in the 400 last spring in track, among being 2nd in the 200) and the other, sophomore, Russell Mays who broke his fibula the other nite at the scrimmage. Tyler Mays was beating Brandon Ford at the end of track season last year in the 100. Russell Mays was a leg on all of the sprint relays (100, 200 and 400). I don't think anyone in Titan land would have ever guessed in a million years, that before the start of the season, they would be without either of these two, ever. These occurances will just be some more obstacles that the 2007 Titans will have to deal with, overcome and you know what?! Here is betting that they will!! (Russell is due to be back by the last couple games of the regular season, hopefully. The kid is a playmaker and will be greatly missed.

The lines (O and D) will probably struggle early in the season as they learn to play as a unit. The team will have as much speed as they have had since I have lived in Danville (15 years). i.e. Their speed is incredible even by the Ads' standards. QB potential is an unknown (to me at least). Perhaps another Ads fan has some info.

Trey Grey at QB. He is only about 5'8 but He has a Cannon for a arm. He also has good speed.:thumb:

I thought that Grey last year had better football instincts than Witten did. Overall athleticism he has and the arm. I think he will do fine. I also believe that the ADS will be fine. I am very anxious to see what they can do. I like alot of their players, Simon at RB and Grey at QB and Macon back. Also Henderson at the other reciever and as usual you have suprise players. I am excited!!!

Like I once said,This team doesn't have the Presure on them like last years team...If this team goes out and Plays as the Underdog they will be fine,if they get to big in the head they could be in trouble fast...

I also agree with you about Trey compared to Rich last year. Not to take anything away from Rich..
