  1. Theres no doubt in my mind that MJ will mix it up a little bit, truth be told, he did last week....it's just that sometimes it didn't look that way. Then again, Im a firm believer that, in most cases, no matter what you run, you have to execute it, that's what has to happen and it will:thumb: . That scoring drive Mercer had, after watching the film yesterday, Mercer had 4 plays in a row insided Lincoln's 50 that went for at least 10 yards a piece...if Trevor (he just happened too, he's a talent, I hope people realize that and DO NOT GIVE UP on him...great kid, great attitude, great talent) doesn't trip up, he walks in from 11 yds out. That would have been 50 yards in 5 plays, TD. The boys executed those plays perfectedly, they looked great. Lincoln stayed in their same defense too, except for some slight variations in it, but it still fell under their same base look It's not what Mercer is doing on offense, it's how well they are doing it, that's all. They will get better, I promise you. The coaches believe, the players believe. That's a good mix for success.:thumb:
  2. Wrong. They beat a very good Greeneville, TN school two weeks back. Greenville is a 4A school in the eastern part of the state. Do some research and you'll find that, except for the past two seasons when they were about .500 or so, they have been a fixture in the 4A playoffs in Tennessee for a while.:sssh: :thumb:
  3. I don't recall anybody guaranteeing that Mercer was going to beat Lincoln. Teams are "supposed" to beat other teams that aren't very good, Lincoln is a good team and VERY good defensively. The two teams that played the other nite, IMO, were and are very similar in a lot of ways, and both good teams that are going to do a great deal better on the year than what most people expect. Outsiders might have thought the Lincoln win was a gimme game, but the coaching staff and players knew that it would be a hard fought game until the very end, which it was. Im guessing that those people who thought the LC was a gimme, were going off of the Bell/Lincoln game, which Lincoln just so happened to get beat, 31-7...and were also without their best athlete/player Ryan Young (#24). Mercer is going to be fine, the coaches believe that and here is hoping that all of the players believe that, which I believe they do. This bunch WILL NOT give in, they don't know what that means!:thumb:
  4. They had 24 Int's last year as a team, but Im sure you all up in Flatwoods will find some miserable excuse for why that was. On the same note............. Y'all were lucky there was a 40 mph wind, as well. :thumb:
  5. I'm thinking the rest of these district games, every match up, will be some great ones!
  6. I do, I really do. It seems like it's going to be a very tough, competitive district, though. So both teams will have to take care of business the rest of the way for that to happen, and here is thinking that both, especially the red and blue team from Harrodsburg, will do just that. You have to take one at a time, though. Know what I mean?! What am I saying asking you that...I know, you know what I mean.:thumb:
  7. You obviously weren't around that huddle tonite after the game. Because I saw and heard a couple kids that spoke out like they were ready to start practicing tonite for next weeks game v.s Pulaski...to add too that, I can promise you that those couple or so spoke up in a positive attitude that most were hopefully thinking.
  8. It's rude and ungrateful to point fingers, talking negative, complain, etc. to a bunch of kids and a coaching staff that has worked their tails off over the past two years, going 17-1, winning a state championship, helping bring a community that has been split since it's existence, etc. .....the world didn't end tonite. Like Network said, Mercer lost a very hard fought ballgame tonite, and on the flip side, Mercer will also win.
  9. You seem to have left out that part about where I said that the players do not need that negativity as well?!:thumb:
  10. Network.... It was actually 3 passes, v.s 1 run. Mercer was struggling running the ball, and Mercer went back to what won the game for them last week in that same situation...last week it worked v.s a very good team, and this week it just so happened that it didn't, against a very good team.
  11. It was a great game, what football is supposed to be like. Mercer's defense played a great game tonite, they held Lincoln to under 50 yards on the ground for the entire game. Lincoln literally PASSED the test tonite. They were able to throw the ball and that, on paper, seemed to be the difference...along with Mercer still having struggling to get their offense going. I can promise you this, it will get going, though...maybe not to the point of last years, but it's not supposed to happen when you lose three guys out of the backfield that were all legit 4.4's. Lincoln County is a very good football team, especially defensively and for any of those out their that think they're not...well, for a lack of some other words, there's a lot about football that you need to learn. Lincoln won tonite, give their players and coaching staff the credit where credit is due. Mercer won the rushing yardage battle (nothing to great, though tonite), Mercer also won the 1st down margin...but, Lincoln had the yards passing, their 8 men up front on defense also won the battle. So, for numbers, the stats were practically even..but, Lincoln was on top for the one that mattered. Mercer will get better, it's common sense. Out of 22 starters, 4 of them are seniors. Im not making excuses, merely pointing out facts. They will get better, especially on offense. If the defense keeps playing like they do and Mercer's offense starts getting better, then don't count them out of anything. Id be willing to go ahead and say that both of these schools will be seeing one another down the road in the playoffs, IMO, it's almost but certain...if both schools take care of business, in particular, Mercer. Congrats to Lincoln County on your hard fought and deserving win.:thumb: I also want to say one other thing, to ALL of the Mercer County fans. For those of you who can honestly look yourself in the mirror and say that you are with this team, supporting just as hard in the tough times as you do when things are going good, THANK YOU. To those of you that don't want to support when things are down, bad mouth the players/coaches, etc. then don't show your face at another game or practice; I don't care if you are a booster or not. The coaches don't need you and the players certainly don't. "Tough times don't last, tough people do!" It's easy win you win, but you find out what you're made of when things don't always go as planned
  12. Best of luck to both teams on an injury free game........with that said, GO ADS!!!!:thumb:
  13. The running back list and the Dunn family list could go for days and days and days. Mercer currently has Yeast's and Dunn's on their team, still. Those athletic families pedigree never dies out.
  14. I am all for that:thumb:. I'm just trying to spread some real truth about something that has been speculated on, falsified, rumored, etc. for over a year now...it gets kind of old, to be honest. A friendly conversation starts, and then it gets infiltrated by false ideas and rumors. Just trying to spread some TRUE insight, that is all.:thumb: Now, back to the original part of the thread...anyone?!
  15. And here they go again, Bob, "Tell them what they've won!!!" Technically, there was one school, the fact that both, not even a mile apart from one another, each offered seperate classes for kids to take and that one couldn't hold them all, doesnt qualify as two schools. Guess what happens if they don't combine both schools before last year, since you think you're so good at knowing what all goes on down here and the REAL THINKING of this merger?!? If they don't take the fiscal money from both school systems to combine, the new school (that is in construction) would only be one of $18 million, instead of the almost $27 million that it is going to be. Try this one on for size....Don't you think that with that extra $9 million that, the total area of the school would be bigger, more classrooms would be built, computers, etc. to be able to fully serve the population of the school adequately?!?? Makes sense to me. Also, tell me who would have applied for a Superintendent's job in a district that was going to be going under in a year or less, anyway?! That had a WHOLE LOT to do with it, but I forgot, you live here and are apart of the community and school system, so you know it all, right?! Go check the enrollments for the classifications last year and you'll see that Mercer's gap in 2A compared to the smallest 2A school wasn't any bigger than it was in 1A, 3A and especially not 4A. In 4a, you had schools like Henderson, Henry Clay, Dunbar, Manuel, Lafayette, etc. playing with an enrollment of close to 2,000-2,200...playing against schools like Lincoln County that barely had over 1,100!!! Do the Math, it's not that hard. Good luck to you all tonite!:thumb: I was once told that "gossip" and false "gossip" at that, was one of the worst things a person could do. Why you and others feel that you have the right to voice your opinions on things that you have absolutely no idea about is completely beyond me. Good luck to you and your Red Devils this year. Class program!
  16. Does it make you feel good, keeping this chip on your shoulder and feeling so bitter?! I mean, Mercer Countians and people from the surrounding area can't even have a friendly thread opened, talking about THEIR TEAMS from the past and THEIR TEAM now, without smart, false, speculating comments in a negative way from some who in all reality had no clue about what went on last year, the YEARS before or what's going on now...I really don't get it. By the way, best of luck to your Red Devils this year! Great program, players and staff!
  17. Mercer also had a very good team in 1993, too , didnt they?! They went 8-3 that year, with their only losses to Danville and Anderson County during the regular season which forced them to play Rockcastle County in the 1st round, I believe?! That's three teams that Mercer loss too who happened to have some of their (Rock, Danville, Anderson) best teams to date. Could you have imagined putting some of those big, strong linemen in front of people like Craig Yeast, Jay Parks, etc.?!?? If people though last years overall talent level was out of this world (and in certain spots, it was), they wouldn't have known what they were looking at back then....WOW!!
  18. Clay Clevenger, Shaunte Ford and Michael Thornton "Tubbs" were load of men that could play, you're right! In the late '90's, Nathan Fuqua('99) and Josh Jaggers ('00) were all-state their junior and senior years, AP and Courier Journal.
  19. He didn't play for Harrodsburg or Mercer, but one of the best athletes to ever come out of this area was the late Jack Coleman, Sr. He played for Burgin back when they had football, then, not only was he an All American on the basketball court for Louisville in the late '40's, but he was also an All-American TE for the Cardinals in football.:thumb:
  20. My fault, didn't read your post there Tracks. haha You know what we should start doing though?? Inquiring and acting like we know all that goes on within a community and school system 3 1/2 hours away like some??!!:sssh:
  21. As good as the talent was last year and the team, they wouldn't have touched any of the teams (70's, 80's, '90's and possibly a couple of the early 2000 era teams) had they merged. And, that, by no means, in any calibar is a slap in the face or a knock on last years team...that's just letting you know how good the talent has been in this town for a long, long, long time. All I can say to the rest of the state is, you're lucky the merger didnt happen 20 years ago when it was first talked about in rumor..because if they had, their is NO TELLING how many possible titles the merged school would have had by now, I dont care the class. That is a fact! Anyone from the area or not agree on that?!
  22. Yeah...I try to forget that call.:madman: That was about the worst that Ive ever seen.
  23. You're right, he might be the best ever to wear a Danville jersey. Despite what others have or didnt do past HS, he might be the best. Not only did he call a TD in that Boyle County game, but he lined up at QB, kept it and scored, then strutted across the back of the endzone. He was a BAD MAN!!! He also almost took back the opening kick-off in the '94 finals v.s Bullitt East.:thumb:
  24. I can understand you being a little biased, but one thing you have to remember about teams that play one another twice in the same year and a close 1st game...that team that loses usually has that psychological edge in the 2nd game, so-to-speak. Then again, you take away Maurice Walker and Timmy Bess' immaculate reception down Danville's sideline in the 3rd quarter and it's a different ballgame. You remember the one, Timmy goes up to get it, tips it and Maurice comes underneath it and picks off the tip in dead stride. WOW! :creepy: It was a great play. I'm thinking that we would have prevailed had we met up. Of course, I'm being a little biased, too.:thumb:
