  1. Here's hoping!! From the word on the street, all indications is that it will be just that! Ok, I know, back to the original thread....:jump:
  2. I couldnt agree more that the final candidates would all be great choices! To be honest, from what I was told, Henderson's head coaching pay, although a good one, wasn't going to be what Jaggers coaching pay at Mercer is or even close. As far as facilities goes, Henderson's stadium is as good as one could possibly want, their bermuda surface is as good as it gets, their stadium is a bigger version of Danville's. Truth be told, Mercer's football stadium itself isnt all that special, but a new one is due to be built at the completion of the new school come the fall of 2008. You're right, though, about the Indoor Facility, it's above and beyond words to describe, one you have to see for yourself. It's the third best one in the state, only behind UK and UL's. A correction about the AD, though. Terry Yeast (H'burgs former football HC) is the athletic director. Bruce Johnson is the one you are thinking of. Johnson is the Superintendant at Mercer. He was also the Super at LC when Jaggers was there, and you're right, they do have a tight bond. Johnson is what most football coaches could only dream about working under.
  3. I just want to put something out there, a fact, so that there isnt any misunderstanding from a rumor that might come about.....so Marty Jaggers was contacted by someone VERY high in the Henderson administration earlier this morning, making another pitch to Jaggers (a very well known Henderson alum and booster made the first call) about applying and possibly taking the job at Hendo. Jaggers, again ,denied the request and will be staying put at Mercer County. I just wanted to clear things up on here before anything might have possibly gotten stired up that wasn't true, b/c unfortunately, the rumor mills on here a lot of times get going in the wrong direction.
  4. Correction. Next tuesday and thursday's (6/12 and 6/14) b/t Mercer, Marion and Danville will be at MERCER, both nites...starting at 6.
  5. Mercer County will be at Danville tomorrow nite (6/7) at 6. Mercer went down to Marion County on tuesday. Mercer, Danville and possibly East Jessamine/Marion County will be going at it tomorrow. Mercer will be hosting the same teams next tuesday at 6 (6/12). Then all are scheduled to be at East Jess on 6/14.
  6. As far as the outworking thing, you might be right about other coaches or coaching staffs outworking the Duffy's, but I would be hard pressed to believe that their arent others out there that dont match/share their work ethic. Like them or not, their track records speak for themselves. Tom was a great coach and still would be if he chose to ever coach again, and as far as Duffer goes, he is well on his way to the same type of success. I wish him nothing but the best down in Alabama and wherever else his career might lead!
  7. Mercer County and Somerset have week 2 open. I believe there is talks of the two hooking up on that date at Mercer's bowl game. Any of you Jumper faithful know if that is going to happen or not?! I believe it would be a great game and a great gate for both, I know last years scrimmage was packed, not just with Mercer fans but Somerset, too! Fun times!:thumb:
  8. Has Henderson County started trying to find a new coach?
  9. Mercer County definately started a very exciting one this year. The team, staff, etc. walks out of the front of their new facility and throught the entire crowd of tailgaters(Im talking a crowd of a couple hundred people, cooking out, playing corn hole, etc...this same crowd stays in that area the whole game, too) that are parked in the field between the game field and the facility. Once they get to the field, there is a rock in the right hand corner of the entering endzone, the players and coaches all gather round and one of the seniors takes the TITAN sword(4ft tall) and stick it in this large boulder, and all of the players touch the sword.. Im being a little biased, but Im sure others from opposing schools will say the same thing.
  10. WKU and EKU get $250,000 for playing these schools. They wouldn't get squat if they played G-town.
  11. I would agree with that, no doubt about it. On a side note, Guru, I would like to see Georgetown play not only Morehead, but EKU or WKU. Call me crazy, but Im just telling you. Not to get off subject here, but EKU and WKU over the past few years have played a couple D-II schools and NAIA schools early on, but never Georgetown. I know exactly why, too. Everything to lose and nothing to gain, within their own state. The same reason why UK hasnt played WKU. Georgetown opened up with Wofford, either this year or last, anyway, Georgetown only got beat 24-13. G'town opens up with them this year ,too.:thumb: Ok, enough rambling about that, my fault!! haha
  12. You're not the only one who is often wrong, as I am too.:thumb: Morehead is technically "non-scholarship", although, they do give out athletic grants and money from other areas. However, you mentioned 1-AA and 1-AA only, Morehead, regardless of how money is distributed, is 1-AA. You would have been wrong this year, and Im not imagining anything, but telling you that you would be wrong this comming year.:thumb: Best of luck to you, though. While we're at it, Brandon Ford, over the weekend, when he went to Fork Union for a try out did the following: 5'8 1/2 165 185 lbs bench-15x's 40x's- 4.42, 4.43 Also...and, I have nothing against Bowling Green. They are a top knotch program, from top to bottom, so note that I am just speaking to you when I say this. I don't think I would be making predictions about how Mercer Co would have done against the schools you mentioned and other 3A elites (Im assuming you would include LexCath in that group also, right?!....I Thought so.), when your Purples didnt get within 47 points of one of those elites in 2005 and only within 20 of one in 2006.
  13. Maybe that has to do with other factors?!? In 2004, Male had more Division 1 talent than North Hardin. Why did Male bow out to to North Hardin in the 2nd round. In 2005 Male, again, had more Division 1 talent than John Hardin, why did Male bow out, again in the 2nd round?? Your point has no validity whatsoever. In 1998, Danville had Jeremy Britt, state's leading rusher, he wasn't a Division 1 or 1-AA player, but he would have been more than just a "good player" in other schools. In 2003 and 2004, Charles Penix was a RB for Danville, he signed with Campbellsville and is still there. He went for 296 v.s Beechwood in the final game in 2003 as a junior, he would have been more than just a "good player" to other teams. This past year at Mercer, they had Donald Walker, Brandon Ford and Cory Jackson, they aren't D-1(in terms of size, nothing else). Ask Bill Cronin at Georgetown if he thinks Walker would just be a "good player" if he had played in 3A, better yet, come by Mercer's facility sometime and check him out in person, watch film, whatever you have to do. Cory Jackson just signed with Morehead St., as did LB Chris Lewis back in the winter, so theres your 1-AA players. Brandon Ford just got back from Fork Union Military Academy in VA over the weekend, he's going to be heading out there in the fall. If you do your research, you'll see that they're pretty selective in who they let come out there. If he'd had his ACT score, you'd seen him at WKU this past year, so theres you another 1-AA player.
  14. I never knew you had to have a Mr. Football candidate on your squad to win a state championship, or for fans, coaches or players to have confidence in their team. Secondly, Mercer had 3A numbers in roster and enrollment (middle range of 3A schools). The Indoor practice facility wasnt exactly complete until halfway through the season. Mercer was one-dimensional because they could be. Have a nice one.:thumb:
  15. Im done with this board, though. I've spoke my peace..not worth wasting anymore time of my life that I won't ever get back.haha
  16. I realize you didnt say that, wasnt saying that you were. That thought just came to mind to put out there (about their departures).
  17. Unless you work directly with the kids everyday, how are you going to sit behind a computer and tell others that the kids at Mercer don't have the same confidence that Boyle or any other school with success has. Secondly, how do you know they dont have the same type of players?! Im not going to make this into a Boyle/Mercer thread, but I dont know how you can sit here and make that claim, especially after the game last year. Like I said, I dont want this to turn into a Boyle/Mercer thread, because you can bet your butt that I pull for Boyle every game except when they're playing a certain couple schools.:thumb: Mecer's non district includes the likes of Boyle, Rockcastle and Hopkinsville. I dont think those games would have been scheduled if they feeled were not winnable. To answer the out of state question, yes, they have an out of state game this comming year, Watertown, TN..at Watertown.
  18. How would you know about Boyle?! How many times did you get to watch them play?! How much film did you watch on them?? Now, Im not making them out to be like one of the teams that won 5 straight, but that's not a very realistic comparison, either. If you don't think they werent a good team, then..well, I dont know what to tell you. Lafayette went 10-0 in the regular season, and if it werent for a 47 yd. field goal, wouldnt have beat Boyle. Danville blocked two punts in the 3rd game of the year for touchdowns. Theres two games right there. Henry Clay didn't have any athletes, did they?!? I mean, I know they arent anything compared to your high and all mighty 'Birds, but still.
  19. Great call, Jbwill2! I dont think anyone is talking up Mercer Co. this year, in the kind of terms that people are taking it, anyway. Im not making any predictions, some might have. I think the main thing that Mercer supporters are wanting to get across is that they'll fair a little better in 5A than what most who are anti-Mercer think. That's all. I, for one, love the disrespect Mercer is getting from some. Actually, I think it's commical reading some of the FALSE posts from some on here who are nothing more than "armchair quarterbacks".:jump:
  20. The first thing I want people to realize is this, Mercer can't and won't be able to replace, Cory Jackson and Brandon Ford. Those types of kids are the ones you hope to have on your team just ONCE in your life, if that, so you could say they contributed just a little...if people are expecting to see that same kind of talent next year to make their judgement on whether or not Mercer is the "real deal", then you'd have a better chance in comparing apples and oranges. 5A football will be different. That's nothing more than just pointing out the obvious, but it's not like the teams are going to be foreign, especially to Jaggers and his staff, it might to the players, but they couldn't care less who they'll be playing. Heres some fact, of the 37 teams in 5A, Marty Jaggers has coached and beat 15 of them, at either, Danville, Lincoln or Mercer. Barren County, Highlands, Bowling Green, Anderson Co., Oldham CO., South Oldham, Montgomery County, Woodford, South Laurel, Southwestern, Lincoln Co., Clay Co., North Laurel and Warren Central.
  21. The Boyle County fans who claim to think they know football, but in reality have ZERO clue about it, will tell you that they weren't a quality opponent. Those would also be the the same "two faced people", so-called, "fans" who were probably calling for Pardue's head mid-season (that would have been a big, dumb mistake). Now, the ones who really understand football, and realize that Boyle lost 5 games to teams with an overall 47-3 record, by close margins, except for the Henry Clay game, will tell you that they were a more than "quality team". As far as Newport goes, you say they werent the same team they were in 2005?! They might not have been when you get down to every single position, but J.J Hesch is a great player, he was back, Wilfong wasn't too shabby himself and Im pretty sure that they had 10 out of 11 starters back on the defensive ball, didnt they?! That's kind of what I thought.
  22. How about you try telling your boys up north at Newport that they arent a quality opponent, because they more than are that, Mercer only won both of those games 27-7 and 43-7. Then, go ahead and tell Boyle County that they arent (Mercer 27-14). Since we're naming schools that are more than just a "quality opponent", go ahead and tell LaRue County that they werent either (Mercer 56-14, Regional Finals, school of about 850..Mercer with a max of 950), then make it a point to tell Owensboro Catholic that they arent one (Mercer 46-0, State-Semis)....last, but not least, tell the people at Russell that their VERY GOOD and VERY WELL COACHED Red Devils arent a quality opponent (15-12, State Championship, in what might have been the worst weather conditions imaginable...and two teams absolutely physically knocking the crap out of one another).
  23. Great analysis 4th and Long. You're right, Mercer will be better next year than a lot of people realize; like you, Im not predicting a state championship by anymeans, theres only a few teams across this state that can do that and come away with it, and Mercer isn't there.....YET, they will be in the mix come playoff time, but they'll have to stay healthy in the backfield, quarterback included. If that happens, they'll have as good a shot as anybody to make a run at it. Todd Davis, Mercer's Strength and Conditioning coach is as good as it gets, he's been working the kids tails off during the day, not only focusing on the core lifts and agiles, but throwing a lot of "Strong Man" lifts into the mix, the kids have apparently fallen in love with that stuff. They've got every strong man lift imagineable, except for the 747 Jet to pull..haha They do return a very good group of linemen, who were mostly all sophomores this past year. Their J.V team went 7-1, I believe, with their only loss comming to Frankfort the second game of the year, score of 8-0, or something like that, they later played Frankfort in the final game and won that rematch 46-12. The freshman team went 2-5, all 5 losses were of a 8 pts or less, and that included the likes of teams like Danville, Rockcastle County and Central Hardin (CH won their freshman league of N.Hardin, Nelson Co, John Hardin, Meade Co, etc.).
