  1. Yes, '96 was his last year....and no, just in case anybody was wondering, Jaggers didn't resign because of that 2-8 season. His whole, entire administration was either forced out or resigned (which IMO, was a large part of Lincoln's "fallout" for a few of those years before French came)..the administration Jaggers had was all about Academics, but they were ALL FOR football, and all sports..that administration was a heck of team)....one of those is current Mercer County Super, Bruce Johnson and another was former Boyle County HS girls b-ball coach/prominent figure, Morris Alan Stewart(Jaggers and Johnson had a great relationship at Lincoln and it's a large part why Jaggers accepted the job at Mercer in '05)...his principal, assistant principal and athletic director all were out of the school system come the summer of '97. Jaggers actually resigned from the head coaching position and was going to become LC's new Athletic Director.....some things happened, and Josh (his son) decided that HE wanted to go to Danville, and the rest is history. The Lincoln fans that are bitter at Jaggers are that way because of the Danville move.
  2. You're exactly right about that!! I mean, there were a few grumblings, like everywhere, but that 2-8 team was just undermanned more than anything, in particular, having to start 3 freshmen on defense that year....a VERY, VERY YOUNG and INEXPERIENCED squad in '96. Jaggers will forever be greatful for being at Lincoln County, as well has his family. Josh even calls that "home", even though he wound up going to Danville for 10th-12th grades. His wife, Judy taught and was an administrator in the elementary school level for 15 years, his daughter Lindsey went to Kindergarden-12 grade their (LC is "home" for her) and played Volleyball and Softball for LC..graduating in 2004. His youngest daughter, who is 8 even started out in the school system for her K and 1st grade years. (Network, I know you and others know that...but, for others that don't). There is always a couple bad apples that will try and spoil the bunch as far as Lincoln Countians go....but, that's the case everywhere when you're a coach, wherever you go. Somebody(s) are always going to be ticked at you for some reason...that's part of it. Lincoln County was, is and always will be dear to Jaggers and his family, as I know Mercer County is/will be to him as well......the same probably holds true for Coach French and his, both places have done great things for him, and he has returned the favor, too.
  3. If Marty cared about what was popular as far as coaching goes, listening to those who have never been in the position, for one..., I can promise you that he wouldn't be as successful as he has become. Network, you can attest to that.
  4. Several of his Titan players were there at the game and either saw him or were told, and personally came up to me laughing about it...they got a kick out of it too, chill out. You've have gotten this all misconstrued...and, blowing it way out of proportion. :thumb:
  5. Yeah, he pulled a shocker there!! I was loving it! haha I think it got under some of the fans skin that he did that, but I'm like you Network, the majority of everybody got a good laugh out of it...that's just him. That made two of them, Mercer was in the same position, all new starters in the backfield and tight ends on the offensive side. I firmly believe that both teams have gotten better than they were in week 3, while both still have very good defenses...it's going to be a dandy, for sure. Best of luck to both
  6. I agree with that, historically they haven't been, but I think with this new Class realignment, the playoffs...especially the first round are going to be a little crazy. Moreso than what we are all used too, that is. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see?!:thumb: Best of luck to your Pirates this week...I pull for the smash mouth team all the time, unless you are playing Mercer. haha
  7. Respectively, I disagree, in particular, 5A. I might be being a little biased, but other than Highlands and BG being the cream of the crop, I think the rest of that class is a toss up, anybody on given nite. I agree, though about the increasing of crowd attendance. No thursday, games though, just friday and saturday.
  8. I agree...in particular, the 2003 Danville team that beat Beechwood 42-0 in the final, rushing for 500 yards in that game and playing absolutely flawless defense. On the other side, for you NKY'ers, when Beechwood retuned the favor the following year was a great team, small school, big school, doesn't matter.
  9. Actually, now that I think about it, you are right and I believe I was mistaken, Bourbon did finish 4th...I think?!? Because I know in '99, in the 2nd round, there were rematches of Harrodsburg(1) v.s Danville(3) and Campbellsville(2) v.s Somerset(4)...Danville and Somerset won those rematches, then Somerset beat Danville 10-0 (and Danville had beaten Somerset 35-7, four weeks earlier. Ah, regardless of Bourbon's seeding, it's a good motivator, great story, because I don't think ANYBODY had them picked to win it all. Thanks for your support!!
  10. Nope. Bourbon finished 4th. Because Boyle won the district. All four teams advanced in the 1st round and in the old way of the playoffs, if all four teams would have obviously met in the 2nd round....#1 v.s #4 and #2 v.s #3. The second round games that year were Boyle/Bourbon and Danville/LexCath. Trust me Hatz!! :thumb: Best of luck to you all this week! I knew that ship would get sailing again this year! People don't realize how tough of a schedule the Rebs played this year.
  11. IMO, I really don't think the term "upset", regardless of seeding can really be used in 5A...unless, Highlands or BG was to get beat, then that would be an upset. I think the rest of 5A is very balanced, flip a coin on either game.
  12. "I had to wash my cap in a bucket of bleach this big to get it this white...I swear to goodness!"
  13. If this is your definition of tension and stress, then you and others who are fans have had some very blessed lives! The playoffs are a new season, whether you are a #1 seed or a #4 seed in a very balanced class, Class 5A in particular, I'd rather be peaking towards the end, than in the beginning. Just ask South Laurel. IMO, this Mercer team the last half of the season, is a complete 180 degrees from the first part (I realize other teams probably are too, that's what makes the playoffs so fun). Here's a few true life seasons over the last 10 years. Last year, Lafayette goes 10-0 in the regular season, loses in the 1st round. NewCath goes 5-5, wins the state championship. In 1997, Boyle County was 9-1 in the regular season, #1 seed in the district...Bourbon County finishes as the #4 in the same district and wins the state championship. In 1999, Harrodsburg is the #1 seed, gets beat in the 2nd round by Danville, whom H'burg had beaten in the regular season.., Somerset was the #4 in that same district....Somerset goes onto the state-semis. Looking back, do you think Lafayette, Boyle County and Harrodsburg would have loved to have traded in their regular season success??? I guarantee it...just some trivia for ya! :thumb:
  14. Then you shouldn't give your opinion if you don't want someone to counter it, and others shoudn't take it as another being defensive when they counter an opinion, either. There's bigger fish to fry out in this world to get all wound up over a message board.......if my posts sound like that, then, well..I don't know. I can promise you I don't lose sleep over this stuff.:jump: Typically, opinion(s) spark some sort of a debate. It doesn't matter if it's a debate class, political, or even something on here.....that's usually what happens. Nobody has to agree with my opinions, but if a subject is brought up that involves myself and is something I care greatly about, in this case, the Mercer County Football TEAM (Players and Staff), then I'm going to voice it. You don't have to agree with my opinion, by NO MEANS, but you can bet your tail, that if it involves this guy, in any form or fashion and you give yours, then you're going to hear mine. Nothing more, nothing less. Best of luck Titans!! Thank you for your support!
  15. I'm not getting defensive. You state your opinion. I state mine. Why some feel that I get defensive, I have no idea. As far as me getting on here and talking about Mercer's games, in the case of losses, I only get on here and talk about what happened and how the game went when OTHERS have questions about "what happened"....I tell. The only thing that I MIGHT even get defensive about are when people make comments and they aren't around, or even experienced something and they don't know first hand, that's what eats me...for example, your comment about the wishbone, "if they practiced it more". Well, how do you know that they don't?! I mean, I'm not going to get on here and give my opinion about what Rockcastle County, Boyle County, South Laurel, etc. should work on more in practice, when in all reality, I've never been to one of their practices to actually know that that do or don't?!? Just for the heck of it, why don't you like the jet sweep?! Just curious, nothing more. :thumb:
  16. If you understood the offense and the reason for the quarterback when he "spins" around, you would know why and then would probably not make that comment.... Which is why that particular offense is tabbed, "The Spin". Secondly to add to that, the vast majority of Mercer's turnovers this year haven't been out of "The Spin" in the gun, they have been when Mercer has ran out of the wishbone. You talk about timing...do you not think that pass routes don't have have to be timed perfectly. Timing, from an offensive standpoint is vitale in every regard, not just on jet sweeps...I don't have enough time in the day to tell about all of the little timing details that have to be just right for MULTIPLE plays to be successful, and not just for Mercer, but everywhere. Mercer ran the jet sweep last year from under center, Jaggers ran it while he was at Danville, from under center and it is still a major part of Danville's offense, today. The quarterback, jet guy, etc. have to have everything timed perfect regardless of under center or gun.
  17. That is great!! Morehead got them a steal in that more than just athletic young man.....I think we are going to talk to Morehead's coaches and see if they will let him suit back up haha!! He's a great one! Congrats Cory!! ....ok, back on topic. :thumb:
  18. I'm with you on that one. I'd like to know the rational, intellectual football thinking behind that opinion?!?!? :creepy:
  19. You might want to add NewCath, Mayfield and Danville to that list. Danville, back in 2004, thumped Manual in the season opener, 25-0.
  20. You're not the only one!:thumb: Knowing that you played for one of the Top 20 programs across the country as far as WINS are concerned is makes a man very, very proud...to say the least.
  21. Hopkinsville might be young, but the fact of the matter is, year in year out, always have and always will...Hoptown has more speed and athleticism than 90% of the teams across the state have in a "good" year. On top of that, they are always well coached, this year especially. Hoptown beating Lincoln would not be considered an upset, IMO and that is NO DISRESPECT meant towards the PATS in anyway!! When you have the tradition, talent and respect like you all have at Hoptown, you don't upset others....others might upset you. You all are exempt from the phrase, "being upset". The only negative for Hoptown comming into this one is the fact that they will have to ride 4 hours on a bus (and you also have to play against a very solid, well coached team..but, that's not to unusual for you all), then play. That's not the most enjoyable of things to do, we (Mercer) had to make a trip like that two weeks in a row and one of those was to you all. Have a safe trip up! Best of luck to both teams!! :thumb:
  22. However you want to describe it...I don't care. I'm trying to show my support here for the man, honest support. By saying "giving" was nothing disrespectful. Let your guard down a little bit onetoya, I'm in agreement with you here about the great coach you have, not against.
  23. Mercer County at Lincoln in the 1st round....as of right now.
