If that is how it went, then Jaggers got his cart before his horse, IMO.

Email is a poor and unreliable medium for absolutes, especially on the school email servers. Either or both of them should have followed up with something more solid than that before considering it a done deal.

No contract - No Play. I mean, how dumb is this? EVERY coach in KY knows that you have to sign a KHSAA contract to make it official; why does this rule suddenly not apply to Jaggers?

Maybe because your talking about the span of over 9 years where Jaggers and Cobb have either played v.s one another in the regular season and/or playoffs, and scrimmages over the years and thinking that when someone tells you that they want to play and agree on it, verbally, then it's as good as done. Like Larry Vaught wrote in the paper, if you dont think that dang near every coach in the state doesnt at first VERBALLY agree on a game before the contract is ever signed, then maybe, just maybe you are the one that is confused.

Hmmm... it makes me wonder.

Last Winter Mercer County offered me a teaching position at their high school to which I replied "I would love to, but I don't have the certifications yet." If verbal statements of "yes" are accepted like e-mail versions, then I should have some paychecks waiting on me! :D

J/K of course... I have nothing but respect for the Mercer County faculty and administration.

So are you saying Somerset doesn't have certifications yet?:D;)

I gotta agree on this one. "Lets play" is far from a done deal and the fact that Metcalfe Co was already mentioned makes it seem kind of naive on Jaggers part. There is no use crying over spilled milk. Play the games actually scheduled and move on.

Agreed....

But I'd bet everything I own that if Coach McGlone had given a verbal agreement to Coach Jaggers...it would be a done deal.

Maybe Coach Jaggers biggest fault is his judgement of character (or lack thereof) in this case.

Most likely yes as far as your bet is concerned. But I'm not going to call anybody's character into question. I'm just saying make sure all your ducks are in a row. Stuff happens.

You're right.

An agreement was broken not a rule...(well, except the one handed down through the generations about a man only being as good as his word and all......)
