Mercer/Somerset saga continues

Featured Replies

Jaggers didnt make it "official". All I know is this, Mercer played Somerset in the semis of the regional baseball tourney and talk of the football game between the two was already being talked about amongst fans. That was the week after Memorial Day weekend. So, apparently, the cat had gotten out of it's bag down in Camp Somerset too??!!!:sssh:

Jaggers told the media it was a "done deal". That sound like he was trying to make it official to me.;)

Maybe because he thought that after playing a coach and his team for the past 9 years, and the relationship developed after all of that, that maybe, just maybe, when that same coach emails you asking if you want to play and reply with an "ok", then maybe he took that to be "official". I dont think Jaggers would be alone in that category.

Again, I ask you, why would some of the Somerset faithful be talking about the game, a week after the emails, like it was already SET IN STONE?!? Somebody please answer that one for me, logically. Last thing I remember, some of the parents from Somerset were walking towards their car in the parking lot down at McQueary Central, and said "We'll see y'all in the fall." Apparently, it had been made official down there in one sense of the other.

Im done with this thread, and would have been, if people not really associated with either program, or even there own programs for that matter, wherever they are, didnt get on here and comment on a situation that they have absolutely no clue about. Truth be told, I dont know all myself, but I definately know more than my fair share.

What??

Well, let's see here, I put the words "guess" and "assumption" (they mean the same thing ;) ) and made the word "guessumption" out of it (actually, i didnt, I'd seen it somewhere :jump: ). Then I went onto making sure that you weren't puting much on that guess of yours (mercer only winning 5 games)..."puting much on"=bet. Lastly, I went onto tell you that I was making a solid prediction that YOU would practically be crazy to think that Mercer would ONLY win 5 games.

Here is the bottom line. No contract means No game. Period. Every HS School in the state of KY knows THAT! And I am actually suprised that MC wanted to play Somerset, because Somerest has always made them look bad in past scrimmages for the past several years, including last years scrimmage.

I think Mercer outscored Somerset 38-0 in last years scrimmage. Good call there.

BG, I know you are smarter than to believe that all the "fan talk" you hear is accurate. If you relying on "fan talk" to justify your position that there was a definite agreement, in whole or in part, it's misplaced reliance. Most of it is wrong, real wrong.

And even if it was accurate, you still can't overlook the fact that Jaggers should have been pestering Cobb to get him a signed contract and given Cobb a deadline to do so, in order that Jaggers would have had time to find someone else if the game fell through.

Have you watched the same somerset/MC scrimmages I have??

Been there in person. Somerset always gives them more than they can handle.

Are you sure about that?? Or are you thinking about a different scrimmage? Somerset had them outplayed last year.

I think Jaggers makes it easy for people to point the finger at him because he's the one making the statements in the papers, but where are the

AD's in this mess? They're the ones that should have drawn up the contracts and made it "official"! They should know their team's schedules and be hunting a 10th game until they find one! If the agreement was made, then the AD at Mercer (Might be Jaggers, I don't know) should have been wearing out the Ad at Somerset until the contract was finalized. If they were doing that they probably would have sensed that something was wrong a long time ago and would have found a different opponent! No contract = No game. Every coach and AD that I've ever worked with knew that.....Sounds like Mercer dropped the ball and is looking to point the finger in order to not look bad....

If you call Mercer scoring 4 times to Somerset's 0, then ok:creepy: ?! Not to mention that Mercer had outscored them like that while Mercer was in the second week of tinkering with an option type offense. They hadnt even practiced the wishbone to that point, the offense that they ran 90% of the time in 2006.

The only time Jaggers wasn't "pestering" Cobb was during those couple, few weeks while Cobb was interviewing, accepting, deliberating, changing his mind and the whole unfortunate changes of heart that him and his family was having to deal with during that time with the Henderson job. Jaggers knew that he had way bigger fish to fry during those days and respected that fact. Therefore, Jaggers didn't worry about it, afterall, the last time they had talked, whether it be over the email or phone, it sounded like everything was all, but written in stone.

Heres another little bit of info for you al to think on. You talk about Jaggers should have given a timeline for Cobb to sign a contract or else he could have found Mercer another game. Well, guess who had contacted Mercer about playing that same week, only after Jaggers and Cobb had apparently agreed to play?!?!??? Metcalfe County. Guess who Somerset somewhere in the mix of all things had scheduled to play now?? Metcalfe County. (Metcalfe is in NO WAY guilty for anything either, I just didnt want anybody to think I was implying that by throwing that out there)

All of that just shows that Jaggers jumped the gun too early. He was told in the Email that Somerset was talking to Metcalf Co. Its not a knock on Jaggers character, or Cobbs character. It is poor communications and bad judgement. A follow up Email or phone call could have been helpful after "Lets play".

There were phone callls, from Jaggers end, trust me (after the Henderson/Somerset situation), theres cell phone records to prove it.

It's time to move on though, it has been, and Mercer is well on there way to moving on. Im not saying who, but I believe there is something that is trying to be worked out with a team in Tennessee (knoxville area) to fill the 2nd week. All I've been trying to do is share SOME (and I mean some) of the true insight to what was actually going on with the whole Mercer/Somerset thing. It's done, it's over, it's been over. I dont think Somerset will miss a beat in the new 3A, best of luck!

The only thing that Im basing the "fan talk" on is that apparently some little birdies let the word get out down there as well, just not in Harrodsburg/Danville.
