Wow...It was ccccccc-old! I'm taking the advise of my mentor, LN, and thawing out with a good shot or two of his "special tonic". CONGRATS and THANK YOU to the BORDER BOWL COMMITTEE and THE NATIONAL GUARD. What a first class event they staged! From the banquet to the game, it seemed to have that Highlands flavor. Ex-Bluebird greats Marty Moore and Gino Guidugli were the banquet speakers and current Bluebird greats Adam Dempsey, Oliver Head, and baby-brother "MR MVP" Tony Guidugli were standouts in the game. I know O-Line coach, Bruce "Wizard of Koz" Kozerski, from Holy Cross, was concerned about his line's ability to pass block. They all were great run blocker's and in 3 short days, the Wizard developed them into a pretty tight pass blocking unit(s). Well done Coach! Especially since 1st team all-state OL Adam Dempsey chose to play Defense!! And at defensive tackle...a spot HHS doesn't play. All he did was bag the games MVP for KY defense. And a late addition to the roster, Oliver Head, got to showcase his offensive skills as a wide out/RB and found the end zone. And Mr. 15...or as we were saying "It's TONY-TIME!!", was the big difference maker in the game. Throwing, running, scrambling, improvising...he just made it happen...just like the state finals! Zach "ATTACK" Eagler of Boone also had a VERY nice game. He was in on MANY tackles. Kudos also go out to the TN kick returner...man that cat can fly!! Any one who gets a chance to participate in this event should JUMP at the opportunity. It was really a great 4 days for the boys!! Congrats to ALL involved

Tony hasn't played defense since freshman year. I don't believe he even PRACTICED any defense in 3 years. But he does have the tools! But face it, Tony is a QB, born and bred! I'm surprised that O-Head isn't on the D side of the ball...what a hitter! And Adam Dempsey is one of the best o-linemen in the state. How did they determine positions...out of a hat? Oh well, it's an honor just to be there, I reckon'!

I hear Oliver Head from HHS is playing a wide-out and returning kicks. Adam Dempsey is playing D-tackle (wasn't he first team O-line?...and defensive end?). Tony Guidugli is playing ...here's a stretch...QB! Should be an interesting contest!

Oakley Watkins, 6'4" / 270 lbs is playing in the "Border Bowl" FB contest this Saturday.

Frosh Andy Miller looked VERY good against the HHS freddies this year. He's definitely their future!

...and the "wheels are in motion" to upgrade the Girls softball facility...ie "Death Valley". And provide some ...security?...for the facility. And no it wasn't a title IX thing...just the RIGHT thing to do. Courtesy of the Boosters and those who support the Booster program at HHS. Jake Turner told me that he was going to play. If he has changed his mind, I am not aware. Good solid arm and player.

NCC loses quite a bit of personnell don't they? Jake Smith will be the top dog as a lineman. Another Kelly (Chris?) will be the main back. Who else?

I've actually seen refs give "band warnings". Most of the time it's inadvertent, but if deemed intentional, a "T" can be given.

His book must be ready to publish. He's trimmed down and ready for the publicity tour (LOL). Heard him at halftime of the CovCath v. HHS game on the internet. ALWAYS ENTERTAINING!!! Stay well, coach!

Is POY strictly a "stat" thing...or do you consider "intangibles" (leadership, scholarship, attitude, sportsmanship, value to the team, etc....)?

I don't think that Special K was "calling out the Dawgs"...I believe that as a competitor, he realizes that Holmes will be the ultimate challenge this year. And as a team, the Birds always look forward to competing against the best in ANY competition. It will be a good yardstick to measure what's needed in March! I like his moxie!
