For the Record, Newport has played the 2A Champion better than Owensboro Catholic the past two seasons, they just caught them earlier in the playoffs. I would not underestimate No Ky 2A, especially with the addition of NCC and Holy Cross for the upcoming season. It's going to be a battle to get out, but I think the winner of that district could make it a long way!!!

Simpson and Wise scored all but 7 points in the win versus Dixie. To pull off the upset in this one, some others are going to have to step up for the Birds! If they do that and Simpson can duplicate his 4th Quarter vs Dixie, I'll take the Birds in a close one 48-45!

The Brossart run to their one and only Region Title..... I didn't think it could get any better than the way they won against St. Pat's in the semi's, but it did against Mason in the Finals....Two of the most exciting games I've ever witnessed on any level!!!

Zach would be a great hire for the Devils! He is young, energetic, knows the game, and would maintain some continuity for the program. I think that is important due to their recent success....

I don't think this is necessarily true Sandman. I can remember some teams in the beginning of the 90's that weren't good! In fact, until Smith and Lorenzen came in the mid to late 90's, I believe the Birds struggled a bit during that decade.

How can a 9-17 team overlook anybody? Especially the host team in the first round of the district tournament....This group at Dayton was scrappy in football and obviously scrappy on the hardwood as well! Maybe we should give them more credit rather than blaming Highlands for not winning by 20+......For Birds fans, bottom line is that you are advancing on to Saturday! 50% of the teams that played last night aren't....

Lickert would be a great hire! Young coach, full of energy, and has really done a fine job at Dayton.

I agree 83Birds!! It's one thing to be on here complaining about the coach after a loss, but now the HHS faithful are even complaining about the coach following a 20 point Win!!!

As I have stated in a previuos CC thread, you just can't overlook a Mike Reitz coached team come District Time!!! He knows when to have his boys ready....

Maybe they can meet up in the 10th region Tourney in Maysville....I wouldn't put it past Coach Reitz to have the Camels coming together tournament time!!!

Isn't Coach Mueller the AD as well.....That would probably explain his attendance at Freshman and JV girls BB games....

Sounds like to me you are saying "Any athlete not good enough to make it in football, can concentrate and put their effort into Basketball." I think that answers all questions as to why basketball struggles at HHS......

When he takes the Mustangs to Rupp Arena then you may have an argument...Until Then, Coach Schlarman would have to hold that title....

Nice to see that the band could take the time to show. After 15 games, what was nice was to allow Coach Reitz to have a home game and not schedule a wrestling match!:flame:

IMO missed Free Throws and Lay-ups cost HHS the game. The 3 pointer Simpson hit to cut it to 2 late in the game was a huge shot. I thought the Officials let them play, but not to the extent where it got out of hand. I also thought that players from both teams played with great sportsmanship and effort!!

What will have a higher point total: A. The Number of fouls between the two teams B. The Total Points scored in the game between both teams C. How many times the Cov Cath cheering section say "Let's Play Football" D. The temperature in the Gym

I just joined the discussion, so I'm not sure where the "banter" comment came from. However, I read that you felt like the program was going in a bad direction, so I thought I'd probe to find out why? Didn't the coach that we are talking about win 20+ games last year (Which was improvement from the previous)? We are not even through the month of December and it sounds like you are writing off the season? I just get tired of hearing people make statements like "Program is not headed in a positive direction" on these threads without evidence to support their claims. I don't have a dog in this fight, but I do know you are talking about a coach with a winning reputation!

Lofton would have to be on top in this debate! Based on what he accomplished, his team accomplished, and post-high school individual achievement as well!!!

Are we talking about the same Coach Schlarman that took over a Bishop Brossart Program and turned them into a Regional Contender? That guy can flat out coach and build a program. The schools in the 10th region are glad that he is now at HHS and in the 9th! What is it that you all feel he is or isn't doing at the youth level that is preventing Highlands from being successful? Hasn't he only been there for 2 years???

That sounds right! That Berry boy gave it everything he had! Not that athletic, but played hard! Where did he coach and how did they do?

Didn't they have some kid that made like 180 tackles in one 10-game season back in the early 90's??? I believe he walked on at UK after he graduated from Eminence.....

Knowing Coach Reitz from Central Kentucky, I doubt you will find somebody that will work with "your kids" as well as he does.....What type of support are you talking about?
