Last week I posted a couple notes about Northern Kentucky's Division I football prospects in this year's junior class. Highlands coach Dale Mueller called me today to take issue with my observations. I had only two Highlands players on my list of Division I maybes (Alex Hempfling and Clay Cecil). According to Mueller, next year's class is expected to draw more DI scholarships than any other in school history. The present record is the four awarded to members of the 2000 team. "Will all these guys get Division I scholarships? I doubt every single one of them will," Mueller said. "But I’d bet we’ll beat our record of four. It’s a class we’ve known about since they were in eighth grade." Here are Mueller's guys, with quotes from the coach: Luke Stein, LB/TE "He’s really a legitimate 6-1, 227 (pounds) today. And he’s a ripped, fast, athletic, intelligent, guy. He’s a guy who will get a Division I player. He’s more of a defensive player than a tight end. He’s the perfect size for an inside linebacker." Alex Hempfling, OL "He's 6-3 ½, 270. To get a Division I scholarship as an offensive lineman, they want you to be a certain size and have good feet. He has that." Clay Cecil, QB/DB "He has a possibility of being a Division I quarterback, but I’ll think he’ll be a scholarship guy at defensive back. He’s 6-1, 185 and he’s really fast." Ryan Ball, ILB "He’s just over 6-0, 220. He can bench press close to 400 pounds. He’ll be a prospect." Drew Simons, SS "He’s a fast, athletic guy and a great hitter." Zach Hurtt, LB "He was injured this year and it was a frustrating year for him. But he long jumps on the track team and he’s 6-1, 215 athlete. He’s really strong." Drew Bathiany, K "We feel he’ll be a kicker that is a Division I guy. He hasn’t kicked as many field goals or kicked really far field goals, but he’s played defense and offense as well. But I think he’s a Division I kicker, a scholarship guy." Trey Jurgens, LS "He’s our long-snapper and a lot of guys can get scholarships for being long-snappers. Seems to be a trend at Ft. Thomas schols. Mike Code teaches at HHS but yet is the head coach at Brossart and seems to have our number when we play them in basketball.

I think some of the HHS fans are wondering that also.

As noted above, when you only have 5-6 plays in your game plan, it gets pretty predictable as the game goes on. There were changes made when Dale brought in an Off. Cord./QB Coach a few years ago, but everyone around the program knows that Dale calls the shots. He is the best at getting them prepared but when it comes time to make adjustments during the game and at the half, there doesn't seem to be any made. Hats off to Cov Cath who made the necessary changes to get the victory.

I know that this isn't the result that Steve wanted but he and the team have nothing to be ashamed of. IMO (although a bias one) he is by far the best thing that has happen to Dayton football in some time. Keep working hard underclassmen and continue to build on this year’s success. Congratulations on a winning season!!

Congrats to Coach Lickert and the Greendevil players. In 3 years he has program progressing. He has his first winning season, first playoff appearance and his first victory over Bellevue. Now it's time to get ready for the Tigers.

I agree about the fullhouse. Last year Hurtt, Ball and Koester ran the ball well, (I maybe wrong) but I can't recall those 3 running it at all this year. Possibly could have gotten those 3 yards they needed, but you never know.

What about it stickymitts? I know you can get the scoop, is it cancelled or continued tomorrow at 4?

I checked Yappi and they said its 9-9 4 minutes remaining in the second quarter.

But I guess the silver lining here is that they will make the playoffs this year no matter what happens in the CCH and HHS games!

I can't remember the last time Dayton started 2-0. If I remember correctly in 98 when they last made the playoffs, they started 1-1 that year and made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs. Good luck against Newport next week. 5-0 is not impossible :thumb:

I talked to the lady who works in the bookstore tonight and she said there isn't many season passes left. Needing a pass to get into the Elder game is not a bad idea for the school. Now they have sold a ticket to all of the home games regardless if that individual goes to another home game or not. We might never see some of these people at a game this year again, but the school has their money though.:thumb:

Will the gate for sure be open and does Kroger care if you park there? Just curious because it seems like when I tried that once before, the gate was locked and we had to walk around.

I would think Coach Lickert would be tremendously excited to have him on his staff. What an asset it would be for Lickert and the Dayton program. Maybe I'll see Yeagle at the Dayton football golf outing!!!!!!!
