As predictable as the Sun setting in the West. Highlands was just going to be too much for the Cougars.

The path gets tougher for the 'Birds next week (hopefully facing an angry bunch coming off a loss [i know, not likely]).

According to the broadcast crew, Conner's qb was hit from behind while attempting a pass. He was carted off on a stretcher and believed to have a severe concussion, but was moving his limbs somewhat. Our prayers are with him! Conner fans, please let us know what you hear!

Newspaper said according to Stellman, the injured player just had a bad stinger and was fine. Thank goodness for that. Was worried about him. He took a wicked hit. Glad you are okay young man.

What in the heck are they feeding those kids at Conner? Lordy they are big, real BIG. They do have to work on foot speed and conditioning. Conner somewhat reminded me of Dixie vis a vis the line play, although Conner was a better running team and Dixie a better passing team. If Dixie and Conner played tomorrow, I'd go with Conner.

Jordan Kramer had 324 yards rushing on 20 carries and left the game with approx 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. I know and understand all the hype going to Beaumont and Anderson, but this Kramer kid is equally impressive in my mind. Dang, he's good. Great job blocking on the o line. Cecil ran the ball very well out of the qb spot also.

Defense did another good job shutting out the Cougars. Conner had a couple of drives where they advanced the ball well at times, but Birds D eventually put the stop to them. Highlands pass defenders best get ready for next week as Elder is going to pass, pass, pass the ball. This isn't a Elder/Koester type team that runs power football, its a pass happy offense that wants to take advantage of their talented receivers.

Big week coming up. Birds have got to focus mentally this week. Elder is going to want to come in and try and embarrass you on your home field. Elder will be a huge test of our o and d lines. Focus on your assignments. You can't get much faster in a week; you can't get much stronger in a week; you can learn you game plan and assignments much better in a week. We need zero mental mistakes to beat Elder and zero stupid penalties to beat Elder. That comes with focus.

After Speaking to the trainer last night and seeing the newspaper this morning it sounds as if the young man will be okay. The trainer said that the injury most likely came from his head hitting the ground more than the actual hit, which was a monster hit. Our prayers our with the young man and his family and we sure hope to see him back on the playing field soon.

Obviously Highlands is very good and they have dismantled both Dixie Heights and Connor. My question is how good are Dixie Heights (0-2)and Connor (1-1)?

They are usually in the top rankings in NKY 4A. They are better than a lot of teams that are getting trounced right now. 4A in NKY is down, expect both Dixie and Conner to be competing for a playoff spot

Glad to hear the kid is okay...blindside hits were always the hits that I didnt mind when I played. As long as I couldnt see them they didnt seem to hurt. Unfortunately this one ended up being pretty serious.

BTW...did anyone get the number on that license plate? Who delivered the blow?

Highlands' passing was not very good agasinst Connor. The Birds need to w

ork hard on that in preparation for Elder to have a better balanced attack. If not, Elder will key on Kramer, and have a better chance of shutting down Highlands' offence.

Other comments?

I didn't see the game last night; so I can't comment on that. But I agree that an effective balanced attack will be crucial to beating Elder.

IMHO...asI've posted before...an intermediate passing scheme is what's needed at HHS. Elder will key the screens and sit single safety back to pick off long heaves. Tight end under or a back faked through the line to a 7-8 yd rte. will make the Panther D have to play on their heels a bit. Bird's had a lot of "walking wounded" last night and guys playing "nicked". Can they stay healthy enough to last the next three games?? Hope so! GO BLUE!!
