Newport just had a more than respectable showing against the defending A state champs, but the Greendevils are 2-0 for the first time in about a decade....

What say you?

What say you?

First the good news for the Devils: Owen Co (who the Greendevils beat 46-6) just beat Gallatin Co 26-6. Gallatin Co last week beat Carroll Co 7-6. Ludlow beat Carroll Co 13-7. What does it all mean? It means that Dayton should be right in the mix with Ludlow and I think Bellevue for a playoff spot and that a possible upset of Holy Cross could even move them to the three spot in the district but that might have to be a semi-big upset.

Now the bad news for the Devils: In a battle of QB dominated offenses I think Newport has the edge and in the battle of defenses I think Newport might have a decisive edge. Still a special teams play or two and maybe catching Newport on a down week after getting shut out in the turf debut, and maybe just maybe, the Devils hang around and make this one interesting.

I think Dayton will lay it all on the line but Nport will be too much on the board. I see where you are coming from with your comparing of scores but I remember a few years back BGP had a 6 degrees of seperation thread where a team with one win won a game against a better opponent (record wise) when all the comparisons stopped they "should" have been state champs, pretty unreal but true.

True. Score comparisons are like bikinis (they don't show everything but are useful to society). However Owen Co hanging a 20 point loss on any team after getting waxed by 40 by Dayton flatters Dayton. Still doesn't help them against Newport where I think they are in over their head, but gives hope that no matter what that score is Dayton can still make a bid for the playoffs.

In this scenario Dayton can't lose unless they totally get axed, they will be predicted to lose by all (but Dayton fans), if they can bring positives out of this game (even in loss) they lose nothing but a game in the right hand column. This game means nothing in the grand scheme of things for the Devils, if they play good it will give them confidence and that should help them against the others in the hunt for the 3rd/4th spot in NKY single A.
