I know that this isn't the result that Steve wanted but he and the team have nothing to be ashamed of. IMO (although a bias one) he is by far the best thing that has happen to Dayton football in some time. Keep working hard underclassmen and continue to build on this year’s success. Congratulations on a winning season!!

Looks like Beechwood did not miss a beat w/out their 1000 yd rusher. I heard Teipel had 189yd rushing and not sure about Amelung.

Beechwood only had problems when they put the ball on the ground. I think they had at least 5 fumbles. The Teipel kid looked good, as well as Amelung.

The Enquirer this past week said this was Dayton's first winning season ever? That can't be true can it? What about back in the 50's, 60's 70's? I thought they were one of the better teams in the state reguardless of class back then, and won a state title?

Did not see the article that you make reference to but that would be absolutely incorrect if that is what they printed. Dayton has had more then their share of winning seasons and has you suggested had some very strong teams in the past particularily in the 1960's including a State Championshop in 1966 that they celebrated the 40 year anniversary of that title this past season.

The article in the paper was wrong. They just did not do their research. It was the first winning season since 1996. Dayton has had a fine football tradition and was very dominant in the 50s 60s and 70s. This includes the 1966 Class A State Championship.

That's what I thought. I know they may not have had many winning seasons the last 25 years, but knew about them being a force back 30-50 years ago, Plus winning a state title and not having a winning record would have been odd back then.

 

Didn't I read a few months ago that Dayton traveled to Florida to play in some sort of "bowl" back in the 60's? Or was that another N.KY HS?

Dayton definately played better than the score indicated. I was very impressed with their game. Congratulations on a great season. Looks like the coaching staff at Dayton is on the right track.

 

Beechwood fumbled way too many times. Cant make that mistake next week.
