  1. I agree, and am not complaining about aggressive play because I love it. I thought a few elbows and blatant shoves in the paint and out front after the ball was penetrated in and the referees were no longer watching was what I meant by dirty. Brossart is VERY aggressive and their defensive efforts will be needed to beat Mason on Saturday.
  2. Montgomery never gave up, even when they were down 30.
  3. Mason did the same thing they have done all year to 10th region teams and that is overwhelm them offensively. It is going to take a tough defensive team with some offensive guns and an off night of shooting for Mason to be beat. Brossart can supply the defense, but can they score enough?
  4. I would go a step further and call Brossart's play dirty, by far the dirtiest in the 10th region.
  5. I think this game was a good example of the poor quality of officials that are left. There has to be some better officials than the three that called this game, especially the younger two. They let the game get out of hands both ways by not calling blatant and dirty fouls. Like I said, this was both ways. Massey was not the only one, but by far the worst, that needed the medical attention of a trainer on both benches.
  6. This looks to be a great tournament. I agree that the championship is wide open to 5 or 6 teams.
  7. Kentucky should not go to a class system. We are the only state who has a true state champion. If we go to a class system do we call the 4A championship the state title? That is not fair to the 3A schools and so on. The Class A Tournament, while not a state tournament, is a great way for some small schools to compete in big championships. Remember that some All "A" schools do well in the Sweet Sixteen as well. We should not take that arena away from a smaller school just because they have less students.
  8. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
  9. Beating Sacred Heart is a great win for Montgomery and the 10th region. Congratulations.
  10. It is good to see some of the past greats like Kelsch and Mitchell get credit for their accomplishments from years past. These are the the ones who brought ladies basketball back in with a bang. Henton, from Pendlton would be another past great who deserves to be honored.
  11. I think the last time Deming won the District was in 1994 behind the leadership of Steven Staggs and Damion Houchens.
  12. Sorry Devilman Coach Mitchell and her are first cousin. Her uncle is the one that referees.
  13. Not taking anything from Bracken a good group of ladies but Deming did a good job as well. They had 2 7th and 2 8th graders and 1 freshman on the floor.
  14. Does anyone know if this game is still being played tonight?
  15. If that is the case, let's cancel every shootout, expo, panorama, Christmas tournament, and invitational tournament that doesn't feature the top teams or has lopsided games. For that matter we probably need to cancel some district tournaments, first round regional games, or even some first round state tournament games. Have we forgotten that everything should be about the kids and their getting every opportunity to showcase themselves? This should be true regardless of the size of the school or quality of the team.
  16. I wish Frances and Leatherneck would run for office. There has been more cooperation in this thread from two people who disagree than there has been in Washington in the last 20 years. Praise God for the common sense that belongs to two of Kentucky's finest.
  17. I do not know about Saturday's game, but Tom is a quality official. He is one of the very few varsity officials who do not place themselves above the game or the kids that play it, like several referees and coaches do. Any bonus call is the responsibility of the official book keeper. As long as that person communicates correctly, then it is the responsibility of the referee.
  18. From what I remember about Deming there are a lot of guys from the 60s and 70s that need to be starting and on the reserve list before you mention some of these guys from the last couple of years. Everytime we played over there during that time it was tough. A lot of them in their 40s and 50s could probably still play circles around those younger guys that have graduated in the last 8-10 years. Also don't forget those guys from '88 and '94. What about Scotty Graves, Wayne Cooper, Micheal Cooper, Ronnie Collins, Donnie Collins, Phillip Doyle, Damion Houchens, Tom Mitchell, and Danny Gardner? You need to start Stephen Staggs as well.
  19. I am not familiar with the rest of the field. Who else is a Class A school besides Raceland and Rosehill?
  20. To me, it does not matter where the regional tournament is held, as long as it is held at the same place. If someone else comes up with a gymnasium that can hold the regional crowd than they have a right to host it. However, the atmosphere of a regional tournament can not be felt at four sites in one night. There is an aura about being in the regional tournament. It is the feeling of playing in a bigger gym in front of the largest crowd of the season for most schools. I never can figure out why people who think they are in charge of the whole world (I think his name was mentioned in an earlier post) think they can mess with the tradition of 10th region basketball by trying to change everything when they don't think their wallet will be as thick this year.
  21. I read in the Ledger Independent where Deming's junior center Erin Carmack scored her 1,500th point and grabbed her 1,000th rebound at Paris last week. Congratulations to her and all the people over at Deming. :dancingpa
