One of the top four will have their season end in Round 2. Manual-St. X game is huge for both as the loser will be relegated to a 2nd round trip to Trinity. Without the #1 seed, South Warren's path will be much different than 2025. Third round almost certain to be Trinity or Manual....unless X beats Manual in October. A possible Final Four: FD, Manual, Madison Central, Trinity.....If T is a 4-seed of that group, you would be cursed to be #1. I guess that means that Manual would actually have to win a 2nd round game. With down years at Male, X, and Ryle, the top of 6A is not overly populated.

The clear "fault-line" with the RPI lies in the calculation of out-of-state opponents. This should be the next KHSAA step- Partner with CalPreps to do calculations for major sports. Have a contract with CalPreps, let the KHSAA get a cut for every subscription sold to a KY address. KHSAA makes $ and gets a better rating system.

The other Final Four hoops teams at BG have had other 2 sport stars as well. 2014- Nacarius Fant scored 30+ vs Cov Cath in the state tourney, was a 3-time FB state champion, and Mr. Football. 2017- Deangleo Wilson, starting point guard on state championship team, 3-time state champion in FB, went on to be an FCS All-American WR at Austin Peay.

Leaders create a culture. Culture drives behavior. Behavior produces results. The ceiling of those results can be associated with the athletic and coaching talent associated with a program. My assumption would be that your experience at a "Powerhouse" program was one that experienced failure in some part of the performance pathway described above. The construction of relationships is at the core of team performance. If built properly, the outside factors that created your negative experience will be minimized. There is no demographic group that can not benefit from an experience that builds core values and trust in relationships. Striving to reach those high standards will impact rich/poor, entitled/needy, championship program/struggling programs. If a program fails to invest into producing leaders and culture, you can only hope that those great kids walk through your doors every year. My decades of involvement in high school athletics tell me that happens infrequently. I agree with your conclusion that winning is not the ultimate reward in coaching. While the goals of every program differ in wins/losses, every leader should hope to meet the personal challenges that individuals carry with them as they enter a locker room on a daily basis. Those exist in every locker room, they just might be packaged a bit differently.

Given the history of mystery calls in favor of the Red Devils at Rash Stadium, it is a bit comical to hear officiating complaints from the Owensboro contingent. I'm sure the flags will favor the Red Devils when the Purples come to town.

JCPS is allowing athletics to resume after Saturday, 2 PM. So, you can't play a home game/scrimmage on Friday, 7 PM. I am not sure what major changes will impact high school sports in that 19 hour period but if must be major if you suddenly can play on Saturday, 2 PM. Personal reflection- when administrators make decisions in the best interest of kids, they are usually the right decisions. Perhaps, that criteria should have been considered prior to shutting down activities due to the school-day bus debacle.

Patrick Reynolds, Daniel Withrow, and Brian Lowder were part of the 1995 Class AAA State Champs at Bowling Green and starters for WKU during their 2002 National Championship season (FCS)

Look for Barren Co and Warren Central to "stay or go" together. If one goes, the other is in a district with BG, SW, and Gwood. Both leave for 6A, they are likely in the Hardin Co. district. If both stay, they would be with BG and Gwood. South Warren and Apollo 6A/5A hangs on their decision.

Quite a run of skill guys at BG in the past 20 years... Steelman, Hollis, Hayes, Clark, Cooper, Fant, D Wilson, DL Moore, Wallace, Hibbitt, R Beard, B Tisdale, Pillow, Carothers, Barksdale, J Carpenter, Yates, L. Brown, Kenner, Bunton, Dingle, E Spader, V Tisdale, S Brown, etc...High praise when a young group is thrown in above the guys that played together among those names. Those Purples put a lot of trophies in the cases on Rockingham Lane.

The major RPI bias is against programs that have out-of-state teams on its schedule. No matter the quality of team, the data views every out-of-state team as a .500 squad. For SW, the losses to two non-KY opponents is logged in as losing to two .500 teams. If you view national computer ratings like CalPreps or Massey, that bias does not exist. Cov Cath, Trinity, SW, St. X all have out-of-state losses to very good teams. The RPI does not reflect true strength of schedule when evaluating out-of-state opponents.
