  1. DragonFire speaks with great emotion and accuracy. 10 years ago, WC was a place that competed at high levels in multiple sports. The decline has been dramatic and highlights the quality job that has been done by William Unseld. His ability to keep WCHS Basketball attractive, competitive, and successful has been something that few could have accomplished.
  2. The top three are all still active and are in their 47th, 44th, and 43rd seasons. It's difficult to image solving problems for that long. At their core, good men who care. Congrats Coach French for joining Coach Haywood and Coach Hilton in the top three. Those guys are putting up numbers this state may never see again.
  3. In the past 10 Class 5A seasons, BG has won 6 titles, Cov Cath 2, 1 each for South Warren & Pulaski Co. In those 10 seasons, only three state final games have been one possession games while 3 have been running clocks. These numbers do not support the theory of 5A being the most competitive class.
  4. No one should ever put a great deal of stock in JV scores. The goals of JV vary from program to program.
  5. Ballard gave up 51 to Male. In a scrimmage, Male got 14 on BG in a half. Ballard may have D1 players, but the coordination of a defense makes it better than the sum of its parts. I've seen both. BG's defense= people where they are supposed to be, when they are supposed to be there. Ballard's defense= great athletes getting upfield creating havoc. Two different styles. I respectfully disagree that Ballard is better.
  6. Checking out the first five games for X. Howell has Owensboro, Central, Male, and Trinity all ranked above X. The other game is Elder, which I'm sure he would rank above the Tigers. Hope it's not an 0-5 start on Poplar Level.
  7. The post Brohm era at WKU has seen recruiting efforts inside of KY slow down significantly. Therefore, if a player is not offered by UK or UL, and has FBS (Group of 5) offers, they are almost certain to go out of state. As time elapses, it will be interesting to see how the NCAA one-time transfer rule impacts the recruiting of "Group of 5 and below" level recruits. It is difficult to see this rule as being a positive one for HS players working for a spot in Division I football.
  8. It would be very simple to use CalPreps/MaxPreps. They cap every victory at 36 points for their ratings and it would give a much truer account of the strength of out-of-state opponents. The current RPI is NOT a reflection of strength of schedule. It rewards being able to schedule "wins" against teams that can also schedule "wins".
  9. The KHSAA site shows Evangel with 18 boys in their 2019-20 enrollment figures.
  10. In the last 10 seasons, Christian County is 7-10 in the playoffs, never advancing beyond the second round. 5 of those 7 wins have come against Barren County and they have beaten Warren Central & Greenwood once. Two of their current district foes during the same time span in the playoffs- BG 33-4 & SW 26-8, with a combined 8 state championships. With the current format of playing inside the district in the initial rounds of the playoffs, this is far from a "great" job.
  11. CalPreps/MaxPreps caps all win margins at a 35 points Combine that with a "short schedule" that Male was forced to play, and you come up with a rating lower than it should have been due to the wins over weaker level teams being capped at 35-point wins in the computer. The disparity in number of games played made it difficult for any rating system to be accurate in 2020 but MaxPreps likely was better than the KHSAA RPI which had Franklin Co at #7 in 4A, BG at #5 in 5A, Male at #5 in 5A, Manual at #9 in 6A, and St. X at #10 in 6A when the playoffs began.
  12. Field position is dictated by turnovers, special teams, and defense. BG winning all three of those phases in the first half. Field position has created two short fields for the BG points.
  13. Perhaps the football gods have sided with the Purples after 2000. If you know, you know. Most Purples who have played at BG since 2000 have heard the stories.
  14. The 2020 KHSAA policy will give Manual the district title by just beating Butler. Manual has no incentive to make the games up due to the RPI being higher than PRP and St. X. The new policy says that if the games can not be made up, the RPI will determine the winner. That is why Manual does not want to play on Nov 6 even though St. X has offered to cancel a game to play. Manual cancels those games, refuses to make them up, still gets rewarded with home field for the initial two rounds. There simply is nothing right about that.
  15. Tennessee was told at the beginning of the month that the season was moved back to begin in late September. Now, the TSSAA has put a pause on a decision. https://www.timesfreepress.com/news/sports/preps/story/2020/jul/18/frustratirises-tennessee-high-school-football/527804/ On Monday night, FL voted to start practices on July 27. https://www.wtxl.com/news/local-news/fhsaa-votes-down-medical-committee-recommendation-to-postpone-football-season Georgia is keeping their 10-game schedule and full playoffs, just moving the season back two weeks to start in early Sept. https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/report-georgia-high-school-association-reaches-decision-on-2020-football-season/

  17. Interested enough in this question to take the time to research my answer. I've seen events in 83 different high school venues in KY, 5 in TN, 3 in GA, 1 in FL, and 1 in Ohio. The vast majority of HS venues I've visited in KY have been west of I-75. I have also seen HS games at 7 colleges sites (Ky Wes., Lindsey Wilson, WKU, Old Cardinal Stadium, Cardinal Stadium, Georgetown, and UK). The Top 10 Stadiums- just personal preference, in no particular order Russellville, Trousdale Co TN, Manual, McCracken County, Bowling Green, Stadium of Champions, St. X, Mayfield, Trinity, & Owensboro. I've seen 5 different KY schools play at multiple "home" fields- Christian County, Butler County, Logan County, Edmonson County, and Warren East (5 different "home" venues). Let's hope we all get to add to our list in 2020!
  18. This RPI "change" is simply an acknowledgement of a flaw in the out-of-state calculation that results in minimal impact and requires minimal effort from the enforcement agency. Those of us that have presented valid evidence of how this system penalizes true strength of schedule are now relegated back to the "time-out" corner after receiving our treat. I think the t-shirt reads, "Nobody cares, work harder."
  19. My theory. When the words "I heard" preface any statement on this board regarding the future of Bob Beatty, Chuck Smith, Chris Wolfe, or any other top level coach, you can generally be assured that the author is certainly not a reliable source. Those guys did not reach the top of their profession by consulting with the public on their next move.
  20. Out of state opponents are discounted heavily by the RPI system. Given that many KY teams play out of state opponents, the MaxPreps system would be much fairer to those teams. Rumor is that some feared teams running up the score if that system is used. Fact is, the MaxPreps system caps all wins at 35 points, so it would do you no good to run up the score. It also would give good value to be competitive and losing against a superior opponent. The RPI values winning, no matter the strength of the opponent. Bottom line, the goal of any "playoff rating system" is to project the best teams a path to the finals. No system is perfect but the RPI seems more flawed that using MaxPreps. Winning on the road is not impossible. Great programs can win no matter the venue. Since 2002, Bowling Green has lost TWO road playoff games. 2010 at Christian County, 2018 at Owensboro. I am certain similar numbers exists at Belfry, Boyle Co, Trinity, etc.
  21. You are getting bad information. Games are under contract thru 2020.
  22. Yes. FR play again in October, at Male.
  23. The KHSAA link to the stats for the 1st Male-X game. Looks like there was an INT return for a TD and an offensive fumble recovered by a WR for a TD. Not arguing with your judgement of how he played, but I think most folks would be pleased with the QB's numbers. 2
  24. CalPreps has Male (5th in KY) ranked above X (8th in KY). Their computer must have a virus....
