Is 5A the most fun class?

I think you have seen 5A become the most competitive and entertaining class over the last few years. I think it has the most depth and the widest range of teams that could potentially win championships on a regular basis.

Yearly top contenders:

Covington Catholic, Bowling Green, South Warren, Frederick Douglass, Scott County, Highlands, Owensboro.

Occasional contenders:

Southwestern, Pulaski County, Great Crossing, Woodford County, Collins, Cooper, Graves County, Christian County.

I think no other class has that quality depth.

I think you have to include South Oldham in the Occasional Contenders category.   Lukewarm season, record-wise, (so far) this year and last, but five years before that included 50+ wins and two semi-final finishes....

In the past 10 Class 5A seasons, BG has won 6 titles, Cov Cath 2, 1 each for South Warren & Pulaski Co.  In those 10 seasons, only three state final games have been one possession games while 3 have been running clocks.  These numbers do not support the theory of 5A being the most competitive class.

I'll go back 3 years in my definition of few:

In the playoffs:

2018 Owensboro beats BG first time in a while, S. Warren beats Owensboro and CovCath (by 4), who beat Highlands and Pulaski on the way.  S. Warren wins state title.

2019.  Semis are BG (who beat S. Warren) at CC and Owensboro at Freddie.  Owensboro/Freddie a tight game, CovCath wins by 7 over Freddie for state title, and also blanked BG along the way.

2020 Semis again are BG(who beat S. Warren) and CovCath/ Freddie vs Owensboro.  BG returns the favor to CovCath and blanks them, Owensboro wins the 2nd match in another close one that came down to a missed field goal and a 1-point win for O.  BG wins the state over O 17-7.

2021 ?  The top teams appear to be Freddie/South Warren/Owensboro and maybe Woodford?

There has been a lot of back and forth and I agree very competitive.
