  5. The KHSAA doesn't want the same district bumping heads with the superdistrict every year. They want to spread the misery and comtempt.

  8. Districts 1 and 3 hook up in the playoffs, which probably present these first-round games: Muhlenberg County at Butler Seneca at Marshall County Daviess County at Pleasure Ridge Park Southern at Henderson County Districts 2 and 4 hook up, with the #5 seed from northern Kentucky going into the #4 slot in District. That probably puts Simon Kenton at Trinity.
  9. I think Tilghman's speed, especially on the defense, would give Bell County a lot of problems. For that reason, I think Tilghman would be a legitimate threat to Bell County, but perhaps not Central, who has probably even more speed and athleticism.
  10. The word is that Mayfield lost the starting center to a broken ankle. His replacement played some center at Ballard Memorial last year, so he has some experience there.

  17. They shouldn't have been surprised at all. Everyone in the state knew that Middlesboro was a legitimate contender that year. The parallel with Hazard and Holy Cross this year doesn't apply.
  18. Everybody knew Middlesboro had a great team that year. I don't know anyone that was surprised when they won the state title, because they had been building that team for two years.
  19. At least one Trinity supporter on here has indicated the Rocks might do it to a certain opponent in the state championship game.
  20. The Lone Oak-Tilghman game was an aberration, a case of a team having to change their gameplan with the loss of two of their best players two days before the game, not to mention all the distractions caused by the publicity of the situation. If Tilghman and Lone Oak played again, it would be a close game. Tilghman was down 7-3 to Fort Campbell until the final play of the third quarter. For three quarters, the game was much closer than the final score would indicate. Russell has given up a lot of points, but they're obviously pretty good. In 4A, there may be 12-14 teams that can make a decent case for a top-10 ranking.
  21. I think Holy Cross is a top-10 team, but if you want to argue more than that, you have to explain a 43-point loss to Beechwood.
  22. Jeffersontown is in 5A. Knox Central lost 34-14 to a Harlan County team that's ranked in 5A. Lone Oak held a fourth-quarter lead and lost 32-27 to a Christian County team that's ranked ahead of Harlan County.
